I be wantin' t' start a Pirate DVD collection. Me question t' the crew is... what should a humble lad like meself start with? Been mighty interested in Pirates since I began surfing about four years ago. Actually, been doin' nothin' but dreamin' of sailin' the high seas in search of treasure. While I understand that it may be a slim chance of real adventure comin' me way, I still would like an indirect way of livin' life like a privateer. Any suggestions on some good DVD's t' wet me nautical whistle?

We all knew he deserved it, and voila!! Depp is nominated for best actor!!! Fantastic! Though I fear he doesn't stand a chance against Bill Murray or Ben Kingsley. But as they say..."it's an honor just being nominated".

We got word the there is going to be a writers strike come May 2. Everything not registered by then will be held up til Neptune knows when. It's alway fatal to TV shows but... features can be affected too. Keep your fingers crossed all is done on the scripts for POTC before then. (sigh)

Just sos ye know! Yours Truly will be playing The Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirate's of Penzance" at the Albany Civic Theater in the sprawling metropolis of Albany, Oregon. If ye happen to be heading up Interstate Five through Oregon in February, stop by and see the show! (And if ye let the house staff know that Cap'n Slappy owes ye a beer, I'll buy ye a real one after the show!) But if ye can't make it, feel free to wish me "break a peg!" Cap'n Slappy

I've just been reading William Goldman's book "Which Lie Did I Tell?" the second volume of his "adventures in the screen trade." Goldman wrote such nifty items as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Marathon Man" and "The Princess Bride." In the 80s he was on top of a string of hits and had a three-movie deal with a producer. One of hisscripts, approved and green-lighted, was called "The Sea Kings." It was to be about Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. For the usual Hollywood reasons (primarily budget) the movie and the other two never got made and Goldman went into a leper period when he couldn't sell anything. By the time he was back on his feet epic movies were out and he…

If you haven't seen it, or played it, get it. I got a copy of it last weekend, and it's great. You have to provide wenching, grog, and gambling to make yer pirates happy. You have to create fear for your captives and ships for your Captains! I love the cats that wonder around the island thinking these comments of "I own you." And "Serve me Human!" They have shops later on that make hats, and wooden legs fer yer pirates, long with other things. A Pirate hatching aviary, which is hysterical. It's a great game if you haven't seen it, along the lines of the Civilization games by Serria, but since it's Pirate based it's better! But I really have to say the Jamaican …

Well I finally made the trip down to downtown San Diego to see the HMS Surprise used in Master and Commander (I know, I live in N. San Diego county, but finding the time to get there was another problem). WOW! That has to be the most beautiful ship I have ever seen! The ship's real name, HMS Rose, hasn't been replaced and the Surprise is still on her stern. Nothing has been touched up (just in case they need to use it again for a sequel), it's absoluetly gorgeous! On deck to touch a cannon, to feel the helms (there's two wheels), that darwf me, to hear the groaning and the creaking of the ship as she rocked up and down with the tide at her moorings ...heaven! Down …

AAAAARRRGGGHHH! Apologies if this has been asked b'fore, but why the blood o' ol' Bootstrap? Was it ever explaned in the film why it had to be Bootstrap's blood that released the curse? I be assumin' its b'cuz his mates murdered him, or mebbe cuz Bootstrap was the purest of heart (fer a pyrate) cuz he objected to the mutiny against ol' Cap'n Jack... mebbe I be soaked in too much rum, but I not be findin' a definate answer in the movie... any help from ye swabs?

Just thought I'd start this part for all of you pirates out there with miniature pirates in the home. This is aimed toward ONLY acceptable stuff for 1-13 year olds. This is where the Mama and Papa pirates can come to find suitable watching/reading materials for their young'uns. So no bad stuff. I believe El Pirata, Stynky, Hurricane and Joshua Red have young ones, so this might be interesting. This is a place to put names of kiddie movies and websites to visit together. I found http://www.meddybemps.com/halloween/thewindmill2.html This has a fun little story about PUMPKIN PIRATES. It's cute, but read ahead, just in case there's something there you don't want the…

I just found out that during the September hurricane that hit Halifax, the junk-rigged schooner Larinda went down. Many might recognize the unique figurehead of a frog in uniform holding a brass telescope. Apperantly, the ship was struck by an unmanned vessel that broke free of its moorings. All the crew got off safely. For more information, go to: Save Larinda

I read a blip on the net that some time ago, Disneyland in Cally, remodeled their POTC ride to make it, as it said, "more politically correct". Now I rode it back in 83. What did they change? What was wrong, that was "corrected"? What do any of you ride fan mateys feel about it? Was it worth the effort? Feel free to share thy mightyest wisdom on this issue so I mayest be enlightened.

Johnny Depp was nominated this morning for a Best Actor SAG award. While the odds are high, with this and the Golden Globe nomination... might'n the lad be on the incoming tides of an Oscar nomination?? We sure hope so! But... why was the" MOVIE "gone?
