somewhere, somehow, such a thing must exist. If I was to search for a modern watercraft, nothing big, mind you, say about 30' or so, that had a "pirate" look and feel to it... where I would look? I've tried a few searches on google and yahoo and come up with nothing so far. I know Smoolie671 mentioned in the "Morning Star" thread that he does some custom work of that nature but are there any other resources for us modern buccaneers?

Three Cheers to our very own Mae and Brig for winning 1st place in the Duets category at the Bay Area Ren Festival Bellydacncing Competition yesterday. Not only did the win in style, the did it AIRSHIP Pirate Style! It was a grand thing to see, and I only wish I had a video camera to capture it. I got some shots of the winning team after though... Mae receiving their award. Celebrating the victory at the pub after.

I've been researching the subject and it seems the only thing I keep coming across is the boob/rib/organ abuse one underwent back in the day via tight corsets. I did stumble upon this nugget: "16th century in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt a type of earring called an earplug became fashionable and these fitted snugly into a wide stretched hole in the earlobe" But I am unable to find out if this was also done else where and for how long. Really the question is, what "work" if any did they have? I ask because I have a few things done, obviously my tattoos are not period correct and will be covered any how during PiP, I also plan on losing one piercing all togeth…

Hi, I'd like to pass on some helpful information. There is no rule saying you must fill out your bio, and there is no rule saying you have to post here in The Crow's Nest first. You can post in any forum you want. However if you do fill out your bio, it lets members know who you are. We love to see pictures of members (especially in garb), as it's always nice to put a face to the post. We do understand if you have privacy issues at hand and don't want to give out information, that be perfectly fine. Humbly yours, Rumba Rue

As I was lying in bed the other night, deathly ill, I started thinking how funny it could be if I started this here list and see what everyone could come up with. So I'll start it off, and everyone else add anything that pops into their heads. You might be a pirate if . . . ~You go into a bar and try to order Grog ~Anytime someone speaks negativly about pirates, you look at them in all seriousness and respond "You say 'Pirate' like it's a BAD thing!" ~You think Hamlet is Shakespeare's greatest work, not for the depth of Character, but because pirates rescue the hero -Well, that's all I can remeber for now. They seemed funnier the other night. Maybe I was delerious …

(A large and well-appointed filibustier enters the tavern. He wears a black wool coat and breeches, with brass buttons, a red damask waistcoat, a ruffled shirt and cravat, an elegant high tricorn with silver trim, white silk stockings, and leather shoes with chiseled brass buckles. He has a cane in his right hand and an elegant smallsword at his left hip.) His Peruke is curled in the latest Paris fashion, with the tail of his queue enclosed by a small black silk bag and ribbon. If he bears a pistol, it is not visible. Are you a betting man?) Blessings and salutations, gentlemen and ladies adventurer one and all! Je suis hereux du faire votre connaissance. Joyeux Noël a …

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, or if there's already another thread about this somewhere. I'm still trying to get my bearings. So, I'm thinking of purchasing a pair of the Loyalist Arms GAoP shoes, and I wanted to get opinions from folks who have them or who have seen them. I'm curious to know how they fit, how they hold up to abuse, and generally how they look when worn. I've only seen a couple of pictures of people wearing them, and from what I've seen I really like them. From a thread I perused over on the Pirate Brethren forums, I understand that the fitting can be kinda' tricky. Has anyone here had this problem? Also, I'm undecided on whether to…

OK, this is kicking around in Twill, and now in the Market, but the question doesn't really belong in either. Why take all the time to artificially age clothing, when just wearing it properly will do the same job? Is it your clothing, or just a costume you put on occasionally? From reading some of this, it seems that people want to look like a pirate, but wouldn't really go to the length of actually getting dirty and smelly. No matter how you do it, fake looks fake at anything less than ten feet. Even the pro costume wonks do this to be seen at a distance or on film, not in one to one contact. The only way to age clothing naturally and have it look right is to wear i…

Hi! I'm new here. My name is Renate. I'm 19 years old. I'm from the Netherlands. I'm a re-enacter of the Napoleonic period, I love to write (poetry, songs, stories) and I'm into medieval roleplaying. I love pirates of course. I'm a bit of a tomboy myself and I dressed up as a pirate a while ago (although I have no idea where I saved those pics). I'm piratescave her daughter (she gave me the link and I thought it looked interesting so I registered). So I also help out with the website in my spare time (link is in my profile). I don't know what else to say except: Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me! Pirate Power! From Holland with Love, Renate

I meself be open to any related topic, be it swords, knives, pistols, muskets, cudgels, boarding actions, dueling, or land assaults (after all, they don't call me "Mad Dog" fer nuthin'!). Greetings to all ye bandits, brigands, buccaneers, and pirates says I... ok, so I'm a day late and piece of eight short for talk like a pirate day, but that's alright. I stumbled in here last night and after looking around a bit I think this place will help me with some attire I've been thinking of working on and keeping it historical ta boot... I've been a pirate at heart since forever. I have a fondness for swords of all types, but the pirates cutlass is my favorite. I also find black powder weapons fascinating and own a kentucky pistol... so yeah, pirates, arrgh!... Hail and Skal and sloshes my drink around... McKegg the Freebooter

Today I started crew training for the Kalmar Nykle in Wilmington Delaware. First day was orientation. * Applications and other paperwork was reviewed, we were given our "Crew Training Manuals"and our pet rope, had ID photos taken, assigned to mentors and toured the grounds and buildings and the ship. This is "Bert" My pet rope, along with the manual issued today. Bert will be with me all the time so they told us to name it. Bert seems to be very happy and has not attempted escape. I don't need to keep him on a leash because he is one. * They started with the introductions of the paid staff and the "mentors" and experienced volunteers. * We split at that …

A lot of people at events carry their secret survivor drink around in various containers disguised as an innocent accouterment to their garb. I had a small metal Celtic flask (sadly it got a puncture hole somehow and became useless) that I put my favorite drink in, Rootbeer Schnaaps. (I'm looking for a new one if someone knows of where the Celtic metal flasks are for sale on-line, let me know!) BTW- If you haven't tried it, do so - really good! So what is your secret potion to carry around with you?

We've now just received a picture documenting this event. Rumors have been spreading for years over this event. Capt'n John Sterling has refused comment on the situation and Quartermaster William Brand (formerly Capt'n of the Watch Dog) could not be reached at this time. We believe we have found a pictorial of the, now infamous, "Night in Barcelona". We do believe that this was early in the evening just before the real action got started. We can now see baboon was there early during the festivities. (Look towards the bottom left. OI the Capt'n is going to kill me. )

Greetings and solicitations, We've been lurking around the site for about a year and thought we'd take the plunge and sign on. We really enjoy reading some of the anecdotes here and the idea of sharing related information with kindred spirits seems worthwhile. Kudos to the site's hosts and you veterans out there who've taken the time and energy to help enlighten the rest of us, (the unwashed masses) on GAOP reenacting and related topics. Briefly, a bit about ourselves. We're a small family residing in southern California. Our interests are eclectic and the adults of the household thought it would be beneficial if the spawn got some 3-D exposure to life in other time per…

Wnet to visit my brudder last evening. It had been 47 farenheit yesterday. At 6:30 p.m. I came out of the 15th curve on a highway I travel often on Black-Ice. I know what to do so I planted both feet on the floor off and away from the pedals and tried to steer out of it. uh-uh. sheet of black-ice. Just before I left the road I remeber glacnig down to be sure I was buckled. I looked out the door window at the trees coming up fast and said aloud; Here we go, I'm dead. First ipmact; second hit; and the final strike where all my injuries came from; Even with the seatbelt on I was thrown across the cockpit out of the shoulder harness, but the lapbelt held. Ke…

Hello the List! Over the last few months, having attending various pirate-related events and small gatherings, I've oft heard folk say they are looking for pirate groups to join, but want to avoid the "Hollywood" pirate image. This most recently came from a younger couple who denounced the Hollywood image, yet sported fantasy doublets and bodices, big black hats with huge plumes, the most sparkling swords and knives you ever saw, and had names based on fantasy characterization. The man looked like the Captain Hook after a visit to Fredericks for Men and the woman like a piratically possessed Lara Croft. If they wanted historical, wouldn't they have been a lot plainer in…
