You're welcome. Oh, I forgot to mention another alternative to the bandanna. Not sure if this applies to sailors, but working men, and men at leisure (at home) wore caps to cover their heads. Hummmm... I picked up a booklet for my great nephew yesterday. It is a National Geographic publication How to be a Pirateby John Halam. In regards to your baldness question the author and the illustrator (Dave Antram) chose about 10% of the pirates illustrated as being bald.

That is interesting Jas. Hook....you're right about baldness being with us throughout the ages , but it seems that back then people might have gone for the wig , or chosen the 'Ben Franklin' look.
