I am currently in the process of putting together a GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bi Trans) pirate gathering weekend. Being a gay man myself, I always drool when I see a man in pirate garb, but can never get a chance to really compliment verbally the way I want to. Recently a GLBT only campground opened about an hour from Dallas, and I've been talking to them about holding a Pirate Gathering weekend there. My pirate themed social group (mainly gay, but we welcome straight people as well) has debated in the past whether to hold a camping event somewhere, but have never had the location to do it, and now we have a place to do it. A date has yet to be determined, but will be once I have…

This be the... ahem.. censored version of the notice posted up on a friend's livejournal: This be next saturday, btw which is.... uhhh... the 25th of June! At Noon in front of the Main Entrance, the usual pack of nightcrawling oddities and sinister-looking cartoon characters will expose themselves to the rays of the Hated Orb™ long enough for brief photographic evidence, discount passes and a quick encounter with Park Security. You may also want to slap on some SPF-1000 to maintain your unwholesome barroom pallor. At 5PM, survivors are invited to congregate in the region of the bumper cars for grisly group photos followed by mass domination of the Blood-Soaked Abatt…

St Erasmus (or Elmo), the patron saint of sailors, was a bishop who was martyred around 303 AD. Saint Elmo's Fire is an atmospheric optical phenomena in which a faint blue glow may be seen on the mastheads or rigging of a ship after a storm due to an electrical discharge. It was taken as a sign of St. Elmo's protection from danger. Raise a glass and rub yer feet on the carpet to the Patron Saint of Sea Dogs! The Martyrdom of St. Erasmus...

Chareston, SC is having it's 2nd Annual Maritime Festival on June 17th-20th. The festival is to help Chrleston and all of South Carolinia to remember it's rich maritime history which has long been neglected. The festival will also be used to help build "The Spirit Of South Carolinia" a two masted schooner based on a pilot schooner built here in 1879. Belive me we need all the help we can get. I should know because I vollunteer at the shipyard from time to time until construction stopped due to a lack of funding. The Spirit is to be used as a teaching ship to give kids from SC a chance to sail and work on a real wooden sailing ship. It will also be used as a goodwill ambas…

Just an update on this historical reenactment, but since it'll take a lot of doing to come off, Methinks a thread for discussion be in order......... Re: The Bougainville Voyage, June 2005, and 'Royaliste' Thank you for your timely note. I am meeting with the Lake Champlain basin Program office in Vermont in several weeks to discuss the inclusion of The Bougainville Voyage in their 2005 Workplan. If accepted, this would allow application for funding to allow partial support for participating US vessels, which naturally could include 'Royaliste'. We also have an application going in to the National Geographic Society and several filmmakers have expressed interest in doin…
