Cutthroat Pirate Festival

 My sisters, brother-in-law and I (in proper pyrate attire, mind ye!) went to the Cutthroat and it was piracy indeed. $16.00 at the gate on Saturday -- opening day -- we were there at 4 PM and the place was deader than the deadest mackerel in the barrel. It wasn't THAT hot - temperature-wise - and only a handful -- maybe a dozen -- pirates were in evidence at the - cough cough - booths. The beer wasn't cold, the only game booth was one lone feller trying to get us to pay a dollar to break a plate. The only entertainment was one guy trying to spin a yarn out of a threadbare imagination and some other feller singing -- not some pirate shanty -- but a tired old E…

We all attend different events and fairs and such. But have you ever been to one and said. I can do way better then this.... So the question is...if you had a festival. What events and such would you throw in?? My idea is to have a contest between two hired teams. The Pirates and the Militia. The Militia would start out with certian Pirates captured and in jail. The pirates stationed at a different section of the festival would then run attempts to get their friends out. But use the public get them involved. Like send a kid to give messages to the captured to organize, or get somebody to cause a distraction so the pirates can help their mates... I now realized how …

Ahoy, all. Working in the Public School service plus the Maritime Museum up here, means that I get but rare chances for travelling. I'm already lookin' at a rare trip south to Connecticut in late August, afore the new school year starts up, and so thought to have a browse for anything during taht time. An' it _looks_ as though only Toronto, Ontario, has anything piratically-inclined that's not in May or December! [Well, a slight exaggeration, but...] Anyone know of anything on the Eastern Seaboard that's coming up in mid- to late-August? Since I'll be on the prowl, and all.

New Jersey Pirate Festival We went on the 4th. This is a smaller festival compared to the larger faires that I'm used to attending and is priced accordingly. The action is geared more towards kids, but there are a few PG-13 activities. As the festival is situated at a Boy Scout camp, the site is dry (read BYOA and keep it on the DL). I had fun, but then again, I can have fun anywhere as long as I'm with the right people :) The next two weekends are a bust due to familial obligations, but I'll probably make it out to the last weekend, on either the 24th or the 25th. Anyone interested?

I have just learned that there will be two new Ren Fairs in the area this year. The first and most Pyrate friendly will be the 1st Annual Covington Ky Ren Fair. (Covington, Ky is on the other side of the river directly across from Cincinnati) It will be June 17th-18th with try-outs for actors/actresses may the 27th (and yes they are looking for pyrates!). The second will be near lexington, KY. I don't have all the info on that one, but if you're interested I can get it for you.

Sea Wolf and I will be travelling to So. California fer the premiere of POTC2, and we wondered if there are any pirate or sea-related activities going on the week that we will be there? We will arrive on June 21st and fly back on June 28th. We plan to drive down to visit the San Diego Maritime Museum.

The members of Seahorse.org are having a Pirate Party at the Crowne Plaza International Chicago (O'Hare) this Friday night. It's the Silly Pirate Variety. Oriental Trading Company, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Port Royal, etc. We're not historical reenactors (except that we plan to have as good a time at this party as we did at the last one). But, we have fun. And pirate attire is required (mostly bandanas eye patches, and fake mustaches, forgive us). So, if you don't mind hanging out with a bunch of aquarium/wanna-be-pirate geeks, and aren't sticklers for authenticity, and like beer, music, and mayhem please come by. We're thinkin' 9:30-10ish until the tide goes out. Cro…
