Arrr! I thought this was worth mentionin' I wandered into me local Michael's Craft store here in California (on TLAPD no less...in full regalia...oh the looks from the lubbers), and I spied a miniature pirate ship fer $40! Complete with mini pirates, the ship moves, and lights up, and has the sound of sea shanties bein sung ("Yo-Ho-Ho and a bottle o' rum). So if ye get a chance, check it out! -Redd

Some o' me mates have asked me between screamin'... "Oh Redd, where did ye get yer fine dreadlocks?" "Well," sez I, "These are natural. But ye can fake 'em, if ye like. Just go to yer local costume shop, or Spirit store, and buy one (or even two) rastafarian cap/wigs. Just cut out the yak hair dreads and sew them into the back part of a kercheif. Weave some bones and other trinkets inter yer hair...and AVAST! Pirate Dreadlocks." If ye wants ter find some bones to weave inter yer hair, there's a place in Albany, CA called The Bone Room. I think they be on the internet. That's where ol' Redd got his prized trinket: A real set of human finger bones that he mounted on a me…

Does anyone know where I can find some (inexpensive) replica coins? Or even not so good replica coins? For Halloween the front yard is becoming a ghost ship, complete with black, ripped mast and ship's wheel. I'm currently working on garb for the "skeleton" crew. I have mardi gras beads for part of the treasure chest but I need coins. Thank'ee

Used Custom Boots for Large Pirates

(Thought this might be better noticed in a separate thread) I be partin' with some custom-made boots that be good for ye large-sized shipmates. These boots were custom made for me 2 years ago but I've since lost weight and they no longer fit. They were worn once. Size: Men's 8-9 Women's 10-11 Calf: measures over 19 inches around They're very soft and slide on and off easily. The width is probably a DD, they are VERY wide. They were originally intended for a Han Solo outfit but they could make nice pirate boots. They can be found on e-Bay: Custom Made Black Boots

Me lady wife has decided to go on the account with me but is having problems deciding on appropriate kit. She has plenty of wench garb, but wants to do more male styled garb. We've been looking at pirate fantasy stuff like the art of Clyde Caldwell, Don Maitz, or Edward Beard. Looks great to me, but is that going to be too way out even for this crowd? Opinions please, ladies? Hawkyns

Back in July I ordered a pirate cutlass from Lords Armory. Payment was deducted from my account on July 30. I am still waiting. I emailed them three times asking for an approximate delivery date. I received no answer and the last email was returned as "undeliverable." Their phone number elicits only a busy signal. I contacted Sword Forum International and discovered that other people have had similar problems, some of them labeling Lords Armory an outright fraud. Do not do business with these people! The same sword is available from other merchants, and is described as a good munition grade cutlass well worth the price, but not from this merchant. Don't get burned like …

One sometimes sees duckfoot pistols (multibarrelled flintlocks) for sale; but I was wondering whether are documentable as having been used in the black powder era, or are they just a modern sales gimmick? Capt. William

There be a new book on pirates for the kiddies. It's callled "How I became a pirate" by Melinda Long and illutrated by David Shannon.Harcourt Press. It's the tale of Jeremy Jacob and how is kiddnaped by pirates and instructed in pirate talk and etiquette (there is none). He learns pirates don't have to eat spinich or carrots but there is "No Tucking in!" so here learns it best to be a little boy after all but still remains friends with the pirates. The illustrator is coming to the Huntington Library on Oct. 18 (Unfortuately he coul;d come on Oct. 8 when PRP will be there) It's a delightful book and the illustration are great. In fact there are a couple of pirates tha…

I'm just getting started in pirate reenacting, and am in the process of putting together an outfit. Just about got it all together, but I'm undecided about footware. Can't decide whether to go with bucket boots or buckle shoes. Has anyone done any research into this matter? Did pirates actually wear bucket boots or is that mostly a product of fiction? Granted, boots look sexy as all get out, but they tend to slow a body down, and my modern sailing experience tells me that this type of footware would be highly impractical while hauling on the ropes on a rolling deck or climbing the rigging, where agile footwork can mean the difference between staying upright and a p…

Hm, I hope it's alright that I started a new topic. This is sort of off-topic compared to the other posts. I'd definitely call it Plunder though. I got bored last night and sketched the Jolly Roger on a piece of aluminum. Today I bought some black paint and filled the background in. I left a one inch border on the sides. The border and Roger himself are unpainted. It will take the pictures a while to load. Even after extreme editing, they're still near 100kbs. ~_~ http://pyrell.port5.com/sign1.png - shows more detail http://pyrell.port5.com/sign2.png - shows more of the border

I'm a 17 year old girl who's recently become interested in the Renaissance ira, and I'd like some authentic clothing. Though female pirates were rare (and those who were just wore men's clothing,) I'm really a pirate at heart, so that's where I'm heading. I think my issue is going to be money, because I don't have a lot.. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
