Pyracy Pub Upgrade
by Guest Angus MacVox- 16 replies
- 1.9k views
As most of you know, I will be upgrading the software here on Pyracy Pub in a few days. You may notice some anomalies before then or while it's going on. Feel free to email me but realize things may be weird for a week or so. The forums will be offline for the day that the upgrade actually occurs, probably on Friday.

No more pub popups
by Guest Angus MacVox- 7 replies
You may have noticed that there were Pop-unders on Pyracy Pub. These advertisers didn't pay the pub, rather, I was partipating in a pop-under exchange. Every 2 times the pub showed a popunder ad, the pub was advertised somewhere else on the web. Anyway, a member had a problem with them at work, and they didn't seem to be doing much good anyway, so I got rid of it.

Ahoy Matey! Does anyone know a good "pirate dictionary" website, or the like? I read something about a "How To Talk Like A Pirate" website somewhere, but can't find it again. Was hoping you scallywags could help me out.

If you where interested in my ship you would say so, but you are more interested in what you look like and the way you talk than being on a real galleon with cannons and fighting the other pirates to be the best. Sofare the well and hope not to see you on the 7 seas, for Iwill board you and make you walk the plank on me endevors at sea............ Capt. bloody Jack Flint

Greetings from the Left Coast of the United States of America! I hail from the Los Angeles area (Burbank, CA) and am a member of that fine Southern California crew, the Port Royal Privateers. I wanted to thank the Forum Captain for setting up this site, I look forward to seeing the activity grow as more sea rovers find this port and drop anchor for a visit.

When I open the front page for NQG, just before I get to the forum, there is a pic of three pirates: a lovely brunette lass, an old salt, as t'were, and one REALLY hot looking rogue raising a tankard... Who are these people??? Especially the swarthy fellow..meeow....

This year is the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. It would be interesting to know how this affected the pirates of the area (Jean Lafitte and his gang), and what influence they had on the French, Spanish, and American government before the Battle of New Orleans. I do know that the Americans tried to have Lafitte arrested several times, succeeding once, before the Battle. His crimes were forgiven after he and his band of pirates assisted in that victory against the English. Speak up if you know anything of this subject (and even if you don't) Pyrate Queen

I mentioned before I am working on a Pirate Weekend here in South Jersey. It will be nothing so grand as some of the larger Florida Festivals, however we do some pretty decent fests here. I have attended several and some ren events, but I have never been a participant, and never really analyzed them as to what works and doesn't. So what I'm looking for is suggestions. If you have participated in one, what would you have liked to see done? If you have attended, same question. What events would you enjoy, and what have been your favorites to attend. Do vendors like to set-up at these events, as I can provide a vendor lane. I'm also curious about copyright laws. I might wa…

I am once again, slogging my way thru Patrick O'brian's books. I have never read one thru. It's strictly the terminology that starts to get to me. I have started at the beginning and I would like to be thru Far Side of the World, when the movie comes out in November. Have you read them? Why do you think they picked a book so far into the series for the movie? Well, here is a link for the trailer. What be your thoughts? http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/master_a...der/medium.html

Ahoy all ye scalliwags.....The Capt. wants to know what would you take with you if...... you went back then ( say around 1650 thru 1750 ) and you are of course from now....... And please leave out phone. I mean, who are you going to call if you have the only phone? The idea is to think of something to take back with you that you think would be of great use. Not something that would get you branded as a witch. Also, remember, that whatever it is you take, you have the only one For me, it has to be... asprin. I mean, yeah air conditioning would be great, but, no electric. High powered rifles and modern weapons are good, but, no modern ammo to use... and visa versa....…

Love this website. I've been looking for references to help me with a piece of writing I'm doing...ok, I'll admit it...it's that damn POTC movie that inspired me to write a piece of (gulp) FanFic. OK, there, I said it. Forgive me. But I've always had a thing for pirates, and rum-guzzling, swaggering, slurring, dreadlocked, square-jawed pirates with a mouth full o' gold are my particular area of interest. But only if they line their eyes with black kohl. I'm no downstream pirate groupie. I could use some help if anyone is so inclined to participate. Need two things: First, particular pirate slang words and their meaning(s). I mean, does the word 'savvy' mean 'understand…

I am all the way on the opposite coast in Southern NJ. I have a 15yo son who is on a surfing conference in San Diego, staying at a Motel 6 in Carlsbad. He left on Saturday and we have not heard from him once. Now, this is not unusual as he had a new surf board made for him which was delivered to his room on arrival. And you know how it is with new toys. Oh, and California probably has real waves unlike us new jersey folks. Just thought since my son wasn't telling me, what's the weather like there. And the water temp, and the waves. He is going to surf some famous beach there - the wedge - if he has the nerve and also tressels.

'lo all! I'm a newbie in SCA, and looking for infomation about female pirates and rank aboard pirate ships. I've been reccomended to this site ( don't you all feel special ) for infomation. The only kicker is that is needs to be historically accurate, at least for SCA purposes. If you could all give me a bit of assistance, I've be most grateful. On to the questions: Most of the female pirates I've read about seem to have taken command of their own ship and such. Did most female pirates simply join the crew, and if so did they disguise themselves as males? What about privateers? ( Aka the times of Drake, where the english hired people to go and mess with the …

I just discovered this site and it's just what I've been looking for. I'm a professional novelist, perhaps best known for my series SPQR: historical mysteries set in ancient Rome. But I've also written a great deal of SF, fantasy and contemporary mystery as well, around 50 books in all. I'm now laying the keel for a rip-snortin', blood-in-the-scuppers pirate novel. I've been a lifelong pirate fan and was amazed to find that there are so many of us out there. Haven't picked a pirate moniker yet, but then I already have one of the great pirate names. Looking forward to splicing with you all.

I just finished a pirate romance called Defiant Captive by Kathy Jones. "She was his to command, he was her's to love" She survived weeks of terror in the dark hold of a pirate ship and had bravely faced the humiliation of the auction block. Now that she'd been sold to Captain Kade Morgan it was time she planned her escape. It would not be easy to flee the handsome pirate especially when her traitorous body yearned for the rough magic of his embrace. But, her master had already tamed her wild heart. I cannot get enough of these romance novels! Can anyone recommend any others? I like the stories where the men are in command, and take what they want!
