I'm teaching some background in my Lit class to 12th graders and found this neat little "choose your own adventure" interactive game. "It's 1629, and you have recently been appointed Governor of a New World colony on the wind-swept coast of the province of Mayne. Your Company's investors have charged you with the tasks of selecting colonists and a ship, and safely guiding them across the sea. At the end of your journey to the New World, your Company's investors will evaluate your performance as Governor. You will be judged on the health and morale of your colonists, the quantity of supplies you bring to the New World, the state of your ship and crew, and the likeliho…

We got word the there is going to be a writers strike come May 2. Everything not registered by then will be held up til Neptune knows when. It's alway fatal to TV shows but... features can be affected too. Keep your fingers crossed all is done on the scripts for POTC before then. (sigh)

Irish Examiner 'Pirates' stars set for high-seas junket Pirates of the Caribbean stars Keira Knightley, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are taking to the high seas for real by joining a round-the-world yacht race, it was announced today. The Hollywood trio will help to crew a boat taking part in the gruelling Volvo Ocean Race. The vessel will be named the Black Pearl – after the pirate ship in the film - and its sail will feature a giant skull and crossbones. It is all part of a marketing stunt to promote the forthcoming release of the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The stars will split the race between them – Knightley will join the boat while i…

Rum balls, rum filled candy canes, rum 'n eggnog all be fine but....how else did pirates celebrate Christmas?? Perhaps some friendly island plunder'n?? 'er perhaps they had some favorite X-mas songs; personally I prefer"Little Hooters Girl" (#6), 'er something like me favorite Yule Tide movie flick Santa's Slay (availible on DVD!)? So just how did pirates celebrate X-Mas? http://www.last.fm/music/Tom+Smith/_/A+Pirate+Christmas http://www.amazon.com/Elf-Bowling-Movie-Jo...y/dp/B000SK5ZE8 (Product Description: When Santa's half-wit brother kidnaps the elves, Santa and super-elf Lex team up to save the day! Ahoy Mates, There is a free online social simulation game called Second Life for download on the interwebz. From what I've heard it has a rather big Pirate gathering as well as some great looking Pirate scenery and towns. My information is limited as I'm still in the creation phase of my character. Bilge Munky is the DJ for an in-game party that will be happening on Wed. November 19th at 1pm Pacific. He's asked all us Knife Fighters to attend and I'm spreading the word to anyone that does not frequent his website. This (apparently) will only be the first of many events so don't feel bad if you can't make it this upcoming Wed. It's completely free and you get to …

I had a friend visiting today who makes clothes and when i told her i'd love to have a "wench's dress", she said she could help me make it, so i'm wondering around internet looking for a "wench dress pattern" and the first one i find is BINGO. It's just the one i love...that'll look cool for the premiére, with the POTC medallion It was $12.50 including postage by priority mail. 'could do worse.. Wench dress pattern I'll wait a little while making it, i want to loose some weight before i do..it's not going to be anywhere within the next five months anyways..and that's optimistic..isn't it...

So I finally found this 2 DVD set at Best Buy after a month stakeout. What a steal at 5.99! 13 out of the total 26 episodes of The Adventures of Long John Silver! Each one about a half hour, full color. Poor quality though. Not the dvd, but just the fact that it is early 1950's TV and was never intended to be preserved or restored by it's creators. Robert Newton continues to be a joy to behold as our likable scalywag. Unfortunately, as it was for tv, the budget was smaller. Hence, there are precious few seafarin' scenes. (and those that are, are models) Instead, 90% of the episodes occur on the fictional island of "Porto Bello" which the creators placed just northeas…

I watched Yellowbeard on DVD on "Talk Like a Pirate Day". I was pleasently surprised by the high production values -- especially the ships. And the cameo by David Bowie was a nice touch: (Especially as his real name be "Davey Jones", and he's got a bit of pirate in his style:) What do others here at the pub think of Yellowbeard? Cheers, Hester

The wife showed me this one since she has us booked for a three day cruise this summer. A new Pirates in the Caribbean party is taking over the Disney Magic cruise ship, transforming guests aboard into pirates for the evening and treating them to a scrumptious dinner feast and adventurously themed deck party that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud. This newly themed evening aboard Disney's seven-night cruise vacations to the eastern and western Caribbean brings together the traditional cruise dinner and deck party with a rowdy buccaneer bash combining invigorating entertainment, themed dining experiences and brand new special effects for an evening that's perfect …

Bilgemunky declared it a Key to Spiritual Enlightenment, and now I have to agree. I installed it, tried it, and was impressed enough to order the $10/mo. subscription. Basically, it's a huge multiplayer pirate game where you do everything by means of puzzles. Really really fun. Puzzle Pirates

After the tidal bore empties from the cave you go in search of the other two items but find that they must have been carried out to sea. Regretfully you return to your shelter clutching you remaining piece of treasure. Once back you can investigate what you choose in detail. If you choose to take the silver candlestick holder you discover it is indeed solid silver and weighs in upwards of three pounds. It is well crafted and looks like the type found in homes of royalty with detailed floral patterns. You estimate that if you sell this item in Port Royal it will keep you in drink, food, and pleasant company for at least four months. If you choose to take the rapier y…

You are shipwrecked on an island in the Caribbean after a storm sinks your ship. You may choose 3 items (material items not people) to take with you before the ship slides beneath the surface. You have one set of clothes that does not count toward your 3 items.

You remember little of the night before. A storm, howling winds and rain, the crack of the main mast and then water and darkness. You wash ashore in the early hours of the dawn. Your body is bruised and battered from the long swim and the collapse of your ship. You are wounded and know that you can only take two more wounds of this severity before you succumb. The beach is covered in debris from the wreck. You were headed toward Antigua when the storm hit your ship. You believe that you may have been in the Leeward Passage when the storm came up and drove your ship over a corral head. All you have are 3 items you managed to grab before you were washed overboard. …
