On Saturday, October 13th we shall be celebrating the 15th Annual Baconfest since its inception. Baconfest was first begun as the brainchild of Ty Coleman who was forced to listen to me and my friend Jonas as we expounded on the beauty and divinity of all things Bacon. We Wetlanders, a medieval reenactment club, mutually agreed that we would have a Baconfest that year and every year thereafter. The small culinary festival has been running now these 15 years and we have consumed considerable quantities of the salty stuff, braving clogged arteries and a shortened life span to celebrate the fruit of the Pig. Over the years the Wetlanders of Baconfest have often wondered …

http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/twoHarbors/Calendar.php Text From Above: Buccaneers Day (Catalina Island, California) October 2nd Argh Mateys! Come celebrate our 21st Annual Buccaneer’s Day. Don your best pirate attire and set sail for Two Harbors for a day of treasure hunts, costume contests, great food, live music and a lot of fun. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX The location is on a part of the island that comes as close as possible to demanding you approach from the water. I do not know if the "Catalina Express" or other shuttle service handles this location. Everybody I know that has gone was either on their own boat or somebody else's. I have heard that certain of the a…

Ahoy mates! On Sunday October 24th, 2004 Tales of the Seven Seas will be working with Make a Wish Foundation to help grant the wish of a 13 year-old boy with a life threatening illness. The boy's name is Blake and he wished "to sail on a pirate ship, dress like a pirate and act." It's going to be a big surprise. (shhhh!!) He won't know his wish is to be granted until it actually happens! Our pirates will be 'kidnapping' the entire family, taking them aboard the tall ship Royaliste and going out for a sailing adventure! I'm currently recruiting other ships to battle us and modern boats to harass us, as well as working to organize a ship to shore battle with the cannone…

I have been asked for some time to post my thoughts about pirate festivals I go to, so others can get a feel for them. Most times, I am just too lazy to do the job, but after this weekend's Southern Pirate Festival, I want to share some fun moments, so, here we go. Columbus, Ga. Ok so, yes, we're talking Columbus, GA here. Not a bustling metropolis by any means, and the drive, well let's say I saw a LOT of cotton fields. The museum is nestled over by the Chattahoochee River in the FAR west side of Georgia. So far west that I literally took one wrong turn on the way to the grocery store and ended up in Alabama! While the drive was long to get there (7 1/2 hours) the weat…

UPDATED!!!! Alright, fellow pirates! Here's an event YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!! Again... October 12-13 in Helmsburg, Indiana... the Jackson Township Fire Department will hold their annual Parade and Carnival. This year, they have an interesting tri-theme: Popcorn, Pirates and Fire Prevention. This festival coincides with National Fire Prevention Week. Again, they want Pirates for this event! As stated below, there will be allowed a Historical Encampment (free to participants). Fire Pits are allowed, too, so you can cook food. People experienced with flintlocks and cannons are desired. Demos possible, skits/interactions/battles most likely! Since it's Fire Preve…

Shay Sansanee and Myself are based here in Key Largo and are trying to pull together information about the festival. The 2 websites found are: http://www.keylargopiratefestival.com/ -not being advertised on the radio http://www.keylargopiratesfest.com/ As many of us who live here can't afford the parties that are "sponsored" and remember how things fell apart last year due to the prices (most locals dont want to pay $5 for a beer when they know they can drink in their favorite place up the street for $1 or $2 instead). We were thinking of a pirate bash here at our house (on the water)sort of a pre PiP get together after the parade on Friday night. Anybody who has…

Salem Pioneer Vilage-1630 in Salem Massachusetts will be hosting their annual Pirate Day on October 22, 2011 from 10am to 4pm. Admission is $10. This will be my own first time attending this event and I will be demonstrating my leather craft. This historical village is a recreation of Salem's founding in 1630 (kinda like a mini version of Plimoth Plantation) and is the oldest and first living history community in America (built in the 1930's). Salem is of course famous as the Witch City and the city's annual Halloween festivities will be in full swing. Salem also has an enormous pirate and privateer history with many nice little museums (gotta go see the New England Pirat…

Downrigging Weekend, Chestertown Md. The harbor and wharfs of Chestertown will be filled to capacity on the weekend of October 28- November 1, 2009 as ships from across the mid-Atlantic make their way up the Chester River to participate in the schooner Sultana’s ninth annual Downrigging Weekend. Established in 2001, Downrigging Weekend marks the close of the schooner Sultana’s sailing season and the beginning of “downrigging” for many of the region’s tall ships and traditional sailing vessels. The weekend will afford the public opportunities to view, board and sail on the assembled fleet and to join in celebrating the maritime heritage of the region. A fleet of “tall shi…

It's that time again for the annual fall Escondido Faire, where pirates mingle with Tudors. If you've never been to this event, it's great with lots of shady trees, big ale garden, a variety of vendors and acts on stages and of course Pirate Cove where all of us pirate people are. For more information go to: Escondido Faire So will you be there? I will!

Is anyone planning on attending the PA Renn Faire's Pirate Invasion? I'm going to be the mermaid working at the Pirate's Den on the farside of the grounds. It's my first time being a paid entertainer/photo op so I'm alittle nervous but very excited. If you go, come say hi to me!

While not specifically a pirate event, it is an event that does focus on later 17th century re-enacting, and a great way to expand ones re-enacting horizons (if one is interested in that). Anyways, this will be the fourth year of this event. It normally takes place in Dayton Ohio at the Sunwatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park, but for this year only has been moved to a private location in central Ohio. The event will be moving back to it's original location for 2011 (or be canceled), but we wanted to keep the continuity going and not skip a year so we moved the event to a private location for this year only. For details, see this web page. The event centers around a…
