I have an old (1730s) Dutch East Indies coin that I would like to display as jewelry. They're not too terribly uncommon and can be bought for well under $10 for mediocre quality, so I'm not worried about damaging it. I won't have it made into a pendant, as I already wear a 6" silver-capped boar's tusk on a necklace. Have any of you had coins made into rings? This one is about the size of a US penny or maybe just a tad larger. I wouldn't know where to begin with it or what it would even cost. Or even a "manly man" bracelet? Wartooth

First .... lets kep the hats in this section. There is no need for the administrator to start a new section. On that I am in agreement with you Stynky Second.... When applying oil to leather. Specifically minks oil or other made for leather oil, I was speaking of how the oil will help soften the leather enough to make it easier to work with. Lastly and for the final time... The hat I am refering to in Chivalry Sports.... renstore.com..... Is listed and described as a FELT hat that runs $29.95. It is listed as FELT and can be shaped or cut down to the brim size and shape that you may like. This is the hat I bought and used. It works well and is very easy to take care of…

I just got the photos of my new bodice and shirt made by Becky Cristler. I liked 'em so much, I had to come show 'em off! These will be paired with black boots and black breeches. I told Becky I was getting cold out on the ship wearing a dress, so she made the bodice out of suede and lined it with a heavy cloth for warmth. There are also upper arm guantlets in matching black that are not shown in this photo. For anyone interested, Becky does beautiful, high quality work, custom tailored to your measurements at an excellent price. Her email is sunset_red7@yahoo.com Please tell her Claire of Tales of the Seven Seas sent you! My shirt and bodice combo was $50, but the …

Need a little help on how to stiffen wool felt (which I found a wide variety of colors at a local fabric store) without wire. I want to make some hats from the wool felt I found. Anyone have any good ideas or positive feedback on how to stiffen the wool felt? As well as how to make both the high & short as well as the large & small crowns? Thanx, Huzzah! (I posted this to an old thread in the "Pop" forum where Red Maria had asked about Barbossa's sword, but felt it might be of interest here as well.) Here's an original of the type upon which Barbossa's sword is based, for sale at LionGate Arms & Armour: . More pics and description at the link. (Disclaimer: I have no connection with, nor have done business with, LionGate--though I know people who have, and they had only good things to say.)

Does anyone have any experience with the sea service pistol from the Middlesex Village Trading Company? I've decided that it's about time I sprung fer a flintlock pistol, and the price looked right fer that one. They gave me a good deal on me cutlass, too. Capt. William

OK, mates, I'm gonna buy a flintlock, it's gonna be a big pistol, and I'm debating whether to stick with a conventional right-handed lock, or go for a left-handed. A righty would be a more correct carry style for me, since being a lefthander I'd be carryin' me cutlass in me left hand, pistol in right. But for shootin' as such, I'd prefer a left-handed lock. Any sources, anyone knows of? Capt. William

Those of you in need of a good spyglass should check out the seller "bargainresource" on eBay. I just got a fine one from them: Leather and Brass Spyglass on eBay They seem to have this spyglass available in constant rotation, though it ain't up right now. This item fits my needs exactly: 1) A BIG spyglass at a full 33" when open, not one of those froofy 15 inch numbers. 2) A new item, not an antique, so the lenses aren't foggy. Also, if I bash it up in a drunken stupor I won't feel it's a crime against humanity. 3) (There is no item 3) 4) Nicely darkened patina on the brass makes it look vintage, not like those shiny brass desk models. The optics are fine for…

Does anyone here know the proper knot for tying a cravat (17th through 19th century necktie)? The only movie in which I see anyone tying one is Cutthroat Island, and I just can't seem to follow it. Perhaps someone knows of a website that could help? Every time I try, it just doesn't seem to lay right.

Avast! Check out Cold Steel's website. At least three new weapons of interest to pirates! First, a nice-looking smallsword for the more elegant pirate. Then, a serious-looking naval dirk - plain handle and 16" blade, a real weapon. And for the Highlander gone to sea, a Scottish dirk. Have a look. That smallsword has me drooling.
