  1. I once was participating at an event and was one of the swordfighters. A ren nazi atrted to comment on how I was using the wrong technique and my armor was wrong and so on and so on, etc. So I told him very simply to pick up a sword and show me what was right. I then proceded to beat the pants off his arse. You were doing fine at first Baptiste, then you had to go and get cocky and smart arsed. If you were home spun and pure wool, then you are not a true re-enactor. You are a fool. Only a fool in these modern time would do RE-ENACTING in summer heat in clothing that would make you pass out. If you are working at Williamsburg or teaching history, then thats another story. If you would like to try your authentic importance out here Baptiste, then I say you are most welcome. Come armed though, as I plan to teach you some history , close up and personal. I have lost plenty of sword fights in my day, but, I've never been beaten Baptiste. Bring your cutlass, rapier, broadsword, pike , whatever you like. I'll be ready. By the way, this is meant as a friendly challenge, because of what I feel is you getting just a little to smart with me mates here. As they would in history Baptiste, that is to say what is authentic for pirates, is not what I am doing. A true, historically acurate pirate, would walk up, spit in your eye and slice you in half. But, if you accept my challenge and face me, who knows, mabye. By the way, does anyone want to be my second........... The Capt.
  2. Red Maria... the book..... Blackbeard... by Robt. E. Lee. was a book I found in a discount book store. I've read it now three times. I can tell you this; there are many other books on Blackbeard that are far far better. The book gives some very good facts that have been well documented and are rather well known. He , however, also adds a good deal of supposition that he claims has to be true without any real way of backing it up. His claim for this, is.. it simply makes more sense this way, or, it just couldn't happen that way, etc. As long as you do not pay much for the book, go ahead and get it. But, do not rely on it alone for the history of Blackbeard. ......... The Capt.
  3. You might want to try a catalog company called.. Prestons by the Sea. They are also to be found on the web. I know they carry a variety of ship models...... Happy hunting...... The Capt.
  4. Heres one I use when sword fighting..... Sung to the tune of ..itsy bitsy spider The itsy bitsy warrior stepped on the tourney field out came the duke and demanded that he yield out came his sword and he split the duke between and the itsy bitsy warrior stepped off the field again
  5. I just wanted to bring this post back to everyones attention. The date is closing fast, and I was looking to see who is interested in trying to attend. Stynky.... I'm glad you are planning on coming. Sorry you have to do a turn around. It won't give us much leisure time. It's a long drive and a long day to go back home, so , ye might want to give it a little thought. But, ye know whats best for you and yours. The offer stands though. Anyhow, as far as the rest of ye go... Let me and Katey hear from any who want to try to make it. We look forward to seeing you...... The Capt.
  6. Tandy leather has an assortment of belt blanks as well as a large variety of buckles. You can easily build a really nice belt for about 20 bucks. As far as making a hanger for your mug; heres what we did. Got a strong piece of old leather and cut it into a half inch wide by about four to five inches long. Attatch a snap top on each end and the snap bottom attatches as close to the middle as you can put it so that it will snap over your belt and then have a separate snap for your mug. Total cost, about one dollar. You can see an example of what I'm talking about for sale in Renaissance Catalog....... Flint
  7. For those who are interested.... I recently picked up a book called....... The Encyclopediea of Colonial and Revolutionary America.... edited by.. John Faragher... It is what it's titled. A thick book filled with brief historical info. about a huge list of people places and dates. Not to mentionall the other things in it. It's a pretty good reference book to have on hand though... The Capt.
  8. Drucilla.... Read the entire post. It says that you are only allowed one item. So you get the lighter, but, not the fluid. If you want to play it out though; if you take a filled lighter back, I bet anything it would get you killed for being a witch. Not to mention, what do you do once the fluid runs out. Good answer though....... The Capt.
  9. Rosalinda and Royalist..... If and when you two actually meet "face to face" God help ye both. It will either be the biggest tease and let down, or you'll sink the whole damn boat. Either way... have fun.. Capt. Flint
  10. While it is true, that most men convicted of piracy were hanged; there were many instances where thier sentences were commuted. There is also historical record of branding being used for convicted pirates that were not given the death sentence. It is in fact true that a "P" brand would be applied for all the world to see that they were dealing with a pirate. Many pirates were sent in chains to be used as forced labor on ships or in various prison plantations. (for lack of a better description) The idea of a brand was also used in some cases, in case the prisoner were to escape. This way the pirate was marked and more easily recognized for re-capture.. I'll try to remember to look up the books later that document this and post them for all of you........ The Capt.
  11. Talesofthesevenseas....... Thats the holster. The one I got is made of very good leather and the stitching is superb. It will work to hold your gun, like I said; just with some guns, its a bit difficult getting them seated or drawing them . It is a good holster though. Have fun.... The Capt.
  12. For those of you who enjoy scottish violins and pipes and whatnot.... I have a few tapes by Bonnie Rideout. It is very scottish and filled with "fiddles". If you enjoy this type of sound, you'll love fair Bonnie... Enjoy...... The Capt.
  13. Mad Mary... I was payin you no insult lass. I was trying to reply to a comment made about a capt. flint and simply wanted everyone to know who it was...... not me........... To all the rest of ye, I say fair winds and smooth sailing. In my dreams the good ship Margaret is open to all who want to sail. In my reality, my little boat.. Maggies Smile is a fun way to take any of ye fishin; if'n we ever meet. fast is good, but, accurate is better....... Wyatt Earp
  14. Not a joke, but, a true story...... Two men were treated for minor injories and then issued citations for reckless driving and a few other things too. What happened was simple. A couple of guys were out celebrating one of the fellows birthday. As they were driving home, they lost control of the car and wrecked. Needless to say they were drunk. When the officer arrived on the scene and got statements, he became so confused, he radioed for his superior to come and help. The guy driving the BMW that he wrecked was blind. He always wanted to drive and so as a birthday gift, his buddy let him drive his car, while he shouted out the navigation to him. The actual owner of the car said in his statement, "he was driving pretty good until he hit that tree."...... I thought it wa funny anyhow......... The Capt.
  15. Make sure you 're talkin about the right Capt. Flint mates. I be the one who came up with me own name and didn't get it from whats my pirate name site. it seems a lot of folks are using this site for thier names and they are all bloody or iron or whatever something flint. Use your imagination people. Be a little creative. It will be more fun for you ... The "original " Capt. Flint
  16. I know Dixie gun works sells the belt hooks that you are showing and they wcome with both the screw and the small pin to keep everything in place. They also sell a blackpowder pistol holster. It is made of good leather and it works quite well to keep your gun holstered. It is a bit rough though on drawing the weapon. Although it fits most pistols, it doesn't fit them all very well. The hook used is the best.
  17. Something I have done , that was recommended by the guy who built my swords. If they are going to be sitting around a while, coat them with a heavy wax, and leave them. Then you just wipe it off when your ready to bring them out. mind you now, it might take a bit of rubbing to get the wax off. depends on how long you leave it on.. Also, Dorian is right too. A fine wipe of gun oil will help keep them very shiny as well as protect them from rust.
  18. I was fortunate enough to see the Pride of Baltimore being built and launched. Then I got a much much closer look as they built Pride 2. Actually got to walk up and lay my hands on the great gal as the men worked on her. I've been on and around boats of all sizes my entire life. I can say for certain, that for me, there is nothing like a wooden boat. They are a great deal more work to maintain , but, in the end, they are the prettiest. I hope to find an old 40's or 50's chris craft and restore her. I'm refering to the open speed boats. They made them in both I.O drive as well as outboard. If you are not sure what type I mean, it is similar to the type used in the film.... On Golden pond..... I found several of these boats for sale.. but with a very hefty price tag. Even the ones that needed major restoration. But , I'll find it one day...... The Capt.
  19. Tales of the seven seas...... I have read the book you stated about Blackbeard a couple of times now. The author also points out several of the variations on Teaches name, besides Thatch and Teach. He also lends other sources for both the idea of Maynard being on board as well as not being on board with Blackbeard. He makes sure to point out also the fact that except for the few accounts written near the end of Blackbeards life, a great deal of things about the man are subject to conjecture. John Maddox Roberts..... your point is valid, but, do not forget that Maynards force was limited in size. That the ground forces he was counting on didn't arrive in time and that his other sloop with him for the attack got grounded as he was working on engaging Teach. I not dissagreeing with any of you. I simply am trying to point out the other facts as well. What really happened there, no one will ever know for certain. All we can go on is what is written........ The Capt. By the way Capt. William. Did you like the story of the Chesapeake and the Shannon. It was an interesting battle.
  20. Rosalinda... you say rock music worked for you in the film... Knights tale... I have to agree with you on that one. But, then again, it was Queen playing on that one. Wich in my opinion is really good music and true rock and roll. I just cannot get into SOME... I said some not all......... of the head banging, can't understand a word your screaming, ear piercing stuff, people want to call rock and roll........ but, now thats for a different forum i would think....... The Capt.
  21. Wait a minute. Get back to the two lasses wrestlin around. Feel free to jump in with your gravity impared cannon balls Grayse. Puts a whole new meanin on the term ....broadside.. ehhh........ The Capt.
  22. I like fiddles and pipes. Don't forget the drums also. And yes, I agree..... no metalica.
  23. Well, its allready been said enough, but, they simply carried whatever they could get. But, what was available at the time was a very good variety. There were a variety of even the most basic daggers. There were different slashing daggers as well as different piercing daggers. There was a variety of eating daggers and so on. I myself carry about three knives when in garb.. I use a clamshell double edged dagger, a small boot knife and a folding knife. They all have a purpose and all come in handy........The Capt.
  24. oops....... yes I see I forgot the dates....... Sept. 12 through the 14th.
  25. On the weekend of Fri. through Sunday.. Fort McHenry will have it's usual celebration of the famous battle . There is a little happening on Friday, with the troops moving in and setting up the camp. Saturday is the big day. There are soldiers all over the place. All sorts of activites and stuff for the kiddies too. The day ends with a big fireworks celebtration. It isn't the biggest event in town, but, it is very very fun. Watching the flag raising is really special. It's more than just hoisting a flag up a pole. Anyone who can make this event will enjoy it. If anyone is planning on attending, give us a holler. We would love to see you there........ The Capt.
