What are the options for cooking if you wanted to cook a meal on your own? Can you build your own fire and cook on it?

I've mightily enjoyed the contributions throughout the Pyracy Pub, and hope you might help me. I've recently joined the Pub, hope to participate in PIP and am searching for my niche. First choice: musician, 2nd:Mary Read's cousin, 3rd:Wench Swimming in Ocean... A professional pianist since age 13, I have a keyboard that I would like to build a case around with appropriate dimensions, wood and square nails, era 1710. Safely yet authentically yellowing the ivories would be a plus, as it has quite a repertoire of GAoP instruments (clavichord, harpsichord, dulcimer, pianoforte). I have a line at present on actual quite-yellowed real ivories. I've played on reproduction and o…

To All, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanza, Good Yule and even Happy Festivus. I am sure I left a couple out. I just wanted to send a note of Good Cheer to all my Pyrat family from around the world. I Love you all and thank you so much for your friendship and comraderie. Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I am going to be out of touch for a bit. There are some serious personal problems that I have to deal with and will be unable to stay in touch. So heartfelt thanks, love and good wishes for a Happy New Year. Captain Spike

Hello to all the splendid pyrates I met whilst at PiP covering it for the Sunday Mirror... I had a wonderful time which I'm re-living whilst writing it all up at the moment... I'll be including a link to this site as a good place for prospective Brit Pirates to start if that's OK... again - thank you all for the fun that i had - I'm already missing you all! X

PiP 09 Camp 1 2 3 4 5

So I'm starting this thread in order to bring some... order... to the camping situation for next year. With our numbers growing greater every year it will be necessary have some organization to maximize our camping potential. I will start with an over head photo of the grounds. I've mapped out a crude area where the paths are (in GREEN) and camping (shaded RED). Please let me know if I'm missing any paths and extra camp space. Thanks. With that I will start to map out where stuff should go. Perhaps along with your listing in the ROLL CALL 09 you could list your accomodations along with your tent(s) Sizes. William can you do that? Thanks to all.

At PiP, and eventually other events, I plan on having an ordinary. It will not be an actual business but a gathering place for all camps, place for a combined kitchen and one fire. We would coordinate all kitchen equipment, tables, cooks, food’s etc. With any luck I will be able to find some wenches to help serving thus helping the atmosphere. Many of the items can be brought by individuals from their kits such as trenchers or plates and flatware. Much of it would come from individuals who happen to have said equipment and are willing to share them with the entire encampmentsuch as a fire grate and fire bucket. When there are spectators we would keep the “patrons” f…

I wasn't going to post any of this before the whole site was done, but I was having way too much fun with this and I had to share it. I mention this on the web page, but thanks again to Hurricane for emailing me the script from the Tryal of Anne Bonny and Mary Read so I could use that as a starting point. This is how we deal with Stynky ruining all the good photos, Jim! (Note: all the SJ Easter Eggs will not be quite this detailed. This idea hatched after poring over reams of photos and finding many of Stynky that I thought were pretty funny. Hope you enjoy it.)

It would be an addition to the Pyrate Camp... I figure now that we have enough Pyrates, it would be a good time for some of us to branch out and portray an earlier time period. And show the public a little known or misunderstood period of history. For some weird reason a lot of people (well not us in the Pub) think Golden Age Pyrates hung (ok... wrong word) caroused in Port Royal and sacked Spanish towns... as shown in the Pirate of the Caribbean rides... We would be camping in the same area, but with maybe some signs(<1720 Careening Camp> <1669 Buccaneer Camp>or something like that) to let the public know what the camps are...(so we don't confuse them)…

If my information is correct, Selkirk was marooned from 1705-1709. That makes the 2009 tenth anniversary of Pyrates in Paradise coincide with the 300th anniversary of Selkirks rescue does it not? With Captain Jim's recent postings of his sea-chest and the article about the weapon that may have belonged to him, maybe this could somehow be incorporated into the PiP for 09? I am looking for more info on that gunne, and sounds like there may be a reasonable facsimile reproduced of his chest for the auction. Anybody into first-person that would do Alex? Just another crazy rum-soaked idea of mine. Went flea marketing again on my B-Day and picked up a couple of old books…

Well, as we put the lid on this year's event and the rhum is almost gone, we came away with a number of boxes of items found at the encampment and in the fort. None of these items appear familiar to us. So... if ye are missin' somethin' there's a chance we might have it. We'll make an effort to get those goodies back to their owners in a somewhat expeditious manner. Plus, if you found items in yer sea bags and trunks ye can't explain, this be the place to let all know.

Needless to say, Papa and Mama were up late trying to get all the pictures up in time for Christmas Morning! Hope that you all are enjoying the ones we were able to get up to the site. We still have about 20 more albums to upload, but it seems there is not enough bandwidth on our server to let all the pyrates in at once. No word on when/if we can get more bandwidth from the folks who are hosting us. Was trying to surprise you all for Christmas, with the gift of photos to keep you warm and fuzzy. Will try later tonight to finish the upload, so check back. Wishing all of our pyrate family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May you have smooth waters and full ho…

Ahoy all! Re-reading the Buccaneer's Realm again, it suddenly dawned on me that Benerson Little was born in Key West. So, I wrote him yesterday. We had a delightful little chat and I told him that we basically use his Buccaneer's Realm and Sea Rover's Practice as bibles to guide our re-enactment efforts. Well, long story short -- Benerson has tentatively agreed to come down for the Fort Fest. Turns out he always wanted to go back to Key West. He's agreed to do a presentation if we'd like and I invited him out to the encampment to look over all our stuff, drink some of the rum punch I make based on his recipe and share his knowledge with us. If you haven't read his book…

10. You feel compelled to cut out cardboard buckles, paint them gold and put them on your tennis shoes for some reason. 9. You can't understand why people aren't constantly asking you to be in their pictures anymore. 8. You find yourself missing the usually noxious smells of gunpowder, tobacco pipe smoke, campfire and three day old sweat. 7. You buy one of those dopey sound machines to play the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. *sigh* 6. You patiently explain to your spouse (roommate/significant other/parents/cat) that henceforth the dining room and kitchen must really be referred to as "the ordinary." 5. People keep calling you by your given name which really c…

as i am going through all my pics ( got snap happy with the new camera !! ), i am setting aside the ones strictly related to PiP for a cd for capt. bo. as a guess, i have somewhere between 300 to 400 pics of various people, details of period items, clothing, encampments, pics of the fort, events, ( sorry-- none from in town ), and during the fest. would anyone else be interested in having a copy ?? yes--- the pics of the kids playing, etc., won't be on it ( i have close to 900 pics total ) .... just pics of PiP, some scenery, ( got a few good sunset pics ) ... lemme know if anyone is interested and i'll burn off a few copies and mail them...

I just scored a vintage portable apothecary scale on eBay. (It's a bit after period, but I compared it to period scales and it's close to correct.) I am gonna be soooo ready this year. Yup. I've got my eye on a box scarifier that is period, too... I really, really want to build a medicine chest. I do, I do, I do...

Imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery. After reading Mission's journal from PiP 07, and pouring over this past year's account after arriving home, I decided to take down my own recollections of the event. It's interesting how people's perspectives can differ so much, and intertwine at other points. Anyhow, my own humble recap is now hosted within my blog. (Mission, you've created a monster, as I'll end up doing this with each event I attend. ) http://intempesta-nox.blogspot.com/2009/01...g-paradise.html
