Ahoy! All of those wishing to attend the Pirates in Paradise Festival, please come forward and make your mark. These names will be submitted to the organizers at the fort for their approval. Anyone wishing to stay at the fort encampments, please make yourselves known. There are two lists. The first list is a designation of those who are hoping to attend, but have not yet confirmed their attendance. The list further down the page is meant to reflect those who are attending for certain, and can show that they have or are making arrangements to camp in their own or someone else's tent. The lists will be updated as often as information is provided to me. The lists wil…

Loved PiP 2005 and I'm not complaining. But what if you could make some changes what would they be? Harken back to an older PiP? Something new? Remove a certain factor?

Anything new and exciting for PiP 2006 planned? Different from 2005 and years before?

Ahoy all! The Second Annual Walk the Plank Championships is a go for Pirates in Paradise. Those brave souls who want to risk it all will have the chance to step out to their watery grave from the Schooner WOLF. The event will be held in front of Pier House so their will be plenty of libations to fuel your courage and a place to dry off afterwards. Here's the judging criteria: 1. Costume: How appropriate is the costume to plankwalking. While period attire is appreciated, contestants are encouraged to use their imagination to come up with an ensemble that impresses the judges and perhaps persuades them to be lenient in their scoring in this area. 2. Style: Points are aw…

I spelled "ANNOUNCEMENTS" wrong. Drat. I just got off the phone with Harry at Fort Zachary Taylor and I have good news and good news. Camping in the Fort: The good news is that anyone travelling to the fort may set up camp on Wednesday, November 29th, the day before the festival begins. We are allowed to stay within the fort walls through Monday. This gives us five nights in the fort. I highly recommend that we try and arrive on Wednesday to coordinate our encampments and activities within the fort. The fort is willing to give us a lot of elbow room. They want this to develop into a true historical gathering. Safety Officers: Those encampment members that have …

Avast! I'm a newcomer to the festival end of things here, I've been to Key West plenty of times as well as Bermuda (My fave), Bahamas, Saint Maarten, Cozumel, All over Florida and down the Seine in Paris on a pretty nice vessel except it lacked sails. lol ---- When I was 6, I stole my brother's halloween tricorn pirate hat and proceeded to wear it for three months till it ripped and the string fell off. Needless to say the rest is history! Always lived by the water and find modern life to be like Generic cereal. You can eat it if you add some stuff that's more exciting/fun once in a while. I work at JFK in NY and really want to come down for this. I'd be on me own th…

Greetings All, I am an artisan who handmakes various Pyrate Themed hanicrafts. I have long been considering the journey down to PIP and I am wondering what sort of crowd to expect... I don't expect to make a fortune, but covering the trip down from"Nieuw Amsterdam" would be nice. Any insights from re-enactors or fellow vendors would be appreciated. OK, here it is, the songlist thread. Just a few simple requests for song nomination. They should be period or in period style. Include a source for lyrics if you know one, or a recording if you know one. I'll try to divide the songs into appropriate categories, such as working songs and forecastle/drinking songs. If any public domain sources are known to you, please share. the object here will be to produce a songbook and a CD or download site so we can all practice the same arrangements. So, how many songs should we learn? Ten seems too few, thirty might be a bit much. Twenty or so? Nominations and suggestions will now begin.

We're trying to decide if we want to go to PIP or Fantasy Fest this year. For those who camped in the fort- 1) when were you allowed in? 2)what facilities (water, firewood, straw, bathrooms, etc.) were provided? 3)did they allow cooking fires? 4)how authentic was the camp, ie was it done right or did they allow coleman lanterns and stoves, coolers and chairs with merely a throw over them, and more concerned with comfort than authenticity? Thanks guys. I'm seriously considering it, but if I take the trouble to get my kit down there, I need to know if it's being done right or if it's a farbfest. Hawkyns

I just read the notice that Jon Rose died. He was a gallant man, and a gentleman at all times. He made the PIP trip special for everyone, being the powder carrier for the guns. His sense of humor was a delight, and I am sure that there are many who will mourn his passing.. He was also kind enough to let me shoot his flintlock aboard the Wolf, on one night cruise. I will say a prayer tonight for him, that the stars shine to see him home, on his next passage...... ------------------------------ from the NQG newsletter, We are stunned to pass on to you that we've just heard stunt coordinator, pyrotechnician, stunt actor, staged fight coordinator, cannoneer, pirate, and…

So I’ve read through some of the posts here and my wife and I are definitely coming. We just want to figure out where to stay. I've heard some people talking about camping onsite at the fort I was wondering how? Do you have to sign up? Are there any requirements? (aka Period tents and such) Just wondering. Thanks for any help.

This post is just a few ramblings of my experience at the 2005 Pirates in Paradise Festival. The reason why I’m doing this is to help folks who may be in the same situation I was before I attended PiP. Everyone has questions, has expectations, sees and hears different things and wants to get an idea of what goes on at PiP. Now granted; this was my FIRST year and I’m not part of the cast or crew. I have no inside or back stage influences or experiences. My wife and I were just a couple of tourists dressed up like pirates and ready for fun. If you have a strong opinion please sound off. If you consider going in 2006 read on. If you have been to the 2005 Pirates in P…

This is just to let everyone know that there is a special rate for members of the Piracy Pub for Pirates in Paradise at the Southernmost Hotel and Southernmost on the Beach. You have to book online and your stay must be between 11/28 and 12/5. The discount is $10 off per night and the location is on Duval St., so everything is pretty much within walking distance. Just go to the website and use the promo code 'pirate' to see what rooms are available at what rate. Please make sure any pop up blockers are disabled when you are on this site, as the confirmation screen is a pop up. If you are going to be staying for the first weekend or beyond the 5th of December, you can't b…

I was reading about the live action trial of Mary Read and Anne Bonney and wondered if it was a good a show and worth the extra cash. For those of you who have seen it, is more of a comedy or a serious recreation?

We were scheduled to go to KW for Fantasy Fest. Wilma stopped that. The festival sponsors and tourist bureau resecheduled Fantasy Fest for December 7-11. Now there are issues. The Tourist Board, Merchant's Association, and most people in the old town want the festivals to go ahead. They've lost huge amounts of money and all the service staff have lost big time on their tips. On the other hand, the residents in the big houses don't want tourists right now. They don't need the money, so they are more concerned with getting everything cleaned up and rebuilt first. The mayor, who is very recent in the office, is caught in the middle, but seems to be inclining towards …

For those of you who have been to PiP how would you say the average plain clothes patrons are? In my expereince at Ren Faires some people are very engaging and enjoy direct intereaction with anyone in a costume (unable to tell cast from 'playtrons'). Others are fearful and like to watch but don't want direct interaction. Having never been to Key West I wouldn't even begin to guess how your average family in plain clothes out for the day would react. i have heard that Key West is very open minded and creative. About what percentage of people garb up as pirates and get involved?

Friends, I have never been to Pirates in Paradise but I am going to make the attempt this year. I have thousands of questions and I'm looking for help and advice. Any details you can share, no matter how small, would be fantastic! I always find that you learn a certain 'culture' that follows a festival. Until you do you can end up looking foolish. Any details on places to stay in Key West and the other nearby Keys would be wonderful. I've read those already posted on the list and I'm taking them into consideration. If you had a good experience at a certain hotel let me know. If you can suggest a B&B share the wealth. If you know of any deals feel free to giv…
