Simple Pleasures 1 2 3

Since I started Petty Annoyances, I thought it might be nice to have the more positive flip side. So, post here the simple things in life that bring a smile to your face, and make you think the world isn't such a bad place...even after you've seen the evening news. For me right now, it's babysitting a friend's horses — three minies of various heights, an ex-racing thoroughbred, and her big riding horse. I had horses for 30+ years, and found homes for my last two a little over a year ago, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss them. So having these guys for a week really does make me smile.

Yep, so there I was, casually strolling through the gaming aisle, when the 4th edition D&D books caught my eye. Having no intention of buying said books (I own at least three other prior editions), I assumed I was safe in picking one up and flipping through it. Here we are, three weeks later, and I've dropped at least $100 on new stuff! My group has played once. In between, I've played a bunch of solo encounters to familiarize myself with the rules. And... I think this is my favorite edition!!! Anyone else out there caught the 4e bug?

And now for a completely random new topic for which everyone has been waiting on tenterhooks. Let's start with an overlooked gem, Tom Tom Tomcat. (It's a gem IMO - mostly because of the version of Raymond Scott's "War Dance for Wooden Indians" over the last minute or so.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBiOzYCpcGk (Tenterhook: A hooked nail for securing cloth on a tenter.)

Brain: "Behold, I can create fire from a little box." Cannibals: "So what?" "Big deal." "Let's eat 'em." Brain: "I can steal your souls and put them in this glass." Cannibals: "So what?" "Big deal." "Let's eat 'em." Pinky: "I can make bubbles with my spit." [the cannibals gasp and begin to bow] Brain: "Now do you believe we were sent by your god?" Alan the Cannibal Leader: "Naw, that's just really cool." I occasionally bring up this decorating magazine domino that I signed up for for free on Amazon.com because they usually have approximately one interesting thing a month in there (IMO). This month, they had a picture of a chandelier that's just really cool. Of cou…

http://www.blogthings.com/whatdoesyourbirt...thdatemeanquiz/ Here's my answers: Your Birthdate: November 6 You tend to be a the rock in relationships - people depend on you. Thoughtful and caring, you often put others needs first. You aren't content to help those you know... you want to give to the world. An idealist, you strive for positive change and dream about how much better things could be. Your strength: Your intuition Your weakness: You put yourself last Your power color: Rose Your power symbol: Cloud Your power month: June What Does Your Birth Date Mean? http://www.blogthings.com/whatdoesyourbirt...thdatemeanquiz/

Musing on the stages one goes through in a forum, especially this forum and probably not representative of everyone, but I would dare say a good majority. Post counts may be statistically skewed by long- and short-timers (ie - the "MerryDeath" 's and "Capt. Wal-Mart's Cheaper Brother" 's ), but see if you agree with the basics. _____________________________________________________________ 0-10 posts: -Subject discovers Pub through a banner ad or annoying Flash-generated "Click Me" box on another site; enters Pyracy.com portal; clicks on "Forum". -Browses posts; senses this is something new and exciting; registers for free, after taking 45 minutes coming up with a ni…

Don't get me wrong, I've misled you into reading this. Sorry about that. I like Christmas... bits of it. I like spending time with people I care about, I like seeing other people happy, I like the feeling that just for once my failings are overlooked by those that surround me. I LOVE the smell of christmas trees (ecologically friendly ones from sustainable forests), I love putting up decorations (on Christmas Eve, not November). I love the atmosphere of naughtiness that pervades Christmas parties when everyone's drunk too much of my jelly-baby vodka or butterscotch rum. But why should we only feel that good for one day a year? If we're capable of living so happily then wh…

I always fancied those beautiful Antique hand carved headboards and footboards for a bed and then throw a bunch of feather bedding on top with silks and brocades for top bedding and covers. Hmmm crystal chandalier with some drops of rubies and emeralds hanging from them. Hand carved armoire and dresser table with 2 small hurricane lamps with also some glass droplets and hand painted roses. A big chest in the corner with beautiful gowns and bustiers. One of those globes that opens up into a bar stocked with my favorite rum. Beautiful thick carved Persian rugs with pinks, creams, green and magenta. Ornate Iron candlebra in a corner. Sigh...well I think of more I will…

What vehicle would you own if you could? (Note: This idea stolen directly from a status comment made by Tartan Jack.) I've talked about my Delorean occasionally and I really enjoyed owning that, although that experience is the reason I added "...if you had more money than brains" to the title. (You may think that owning a collector car would be neat, but the reality is another thing entirely. Trust me.) Personally, I have always thought the Auburn Boattail Speedster was the most beautiful car ever made. Having recently visited the Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg museum in Auburn, IN on my way to Paynetown, I can even show you pictures (...and I even like the color.)

I couldn't help thinking though, of the comparison between "Mary Anne" and "Ginger" of Gilligan's Island, and Kaylee and Inara of Firefly. (not that they are similar characters mind you, but there has always been kind of a "male" choice.... Mary Anne or Ginger? Kaylee is the home grown girl next door type and Inara is the Hottie "Dream" girl type.... So Question 1 Kaylee or Inara? (Ok.... DESPITE that fact that Inara has had... "professional" training!) Question 2 Ginger or Mary Ann? Anyone?

So the local coffee emporium on the main street corner of town to which I stroll on random mornings during my daily sojourn had this special for Easter (yes, I know, that was a few weeks ago). For some exorbitant rate normally associated with an entire meal at a fast-food restaurant, you could get a flavoured cappuccino with a peep duck or swan or whatever that bird-like blob is called floating in it. Odd. "Bethany," I began, using my favorite dyed-shock-of-blue-haired barista's full name due to the gravity of the question, "do peeps melt in coffee?" "I don't know, I've never tried one. The kids order them at night when I'm not here." Beth is 26, so I guess she's t…

Just wonderin' how many of you have linguistic skills (down boys!) in another language. I might be taking up a second language, soon. Just curious. When did you learn it and how difficult was it to pick up?

I'm not one to compliment people unless they really put forth a superior effort, but I must admit this one was pretty clever. I received this email this morning: And then there were a bunch of buttons to respond to the request or take action on it. All lead to a non-eBay website where the first thing you have to do (naturally) is log in. Your first inclination is outrage and to cry out for justice by responding to the request. Pretty clever. All the same, I reported it to spoof@ebay.com. Bloody pirates.

Okay, here is the scenario. A guy is screwing around with a video recorder at a graveyard in the early morning hours. He hears some moaning or crying. He starts to track the crying noise. when he finally reaches it, he can see a girl sitting on a grave from a distance. He turns on the recorder and starts to film. As you watch it, you can hear the moaning noises continue coming from the girl. The film is grainy, but you can see the image of the girl if you look carefully. Fake? Who knows. It is spooky though. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/ghostgirl.html
