The spammers are posting not to get our attention, but to move their websites up the search ladder engines. The more links to their websites, the higher up it moves on the search engine ladder. The quicker we remove it, the less likely it is to help their cause. So, please, don't respond, don't click on the link, don't email the poster. The quicker we delete the better.

That reason never even occurred to me, but it makes perfect sense. Google ranks sites on their page based on the number of links it can find to your page. The more popular the site containing the link, the more it boosts their rating. (Thanks for the clear insight!)

Gone. Please report them, it will be so much more effective than just complaining about them. That way we can eliminate them.

Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?"

John: "I don't know."

Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

I've tried reporting the spammers a couple of times, and get runtime errors or something of the sort. Is it working for others?

I press report, and it takes me to a screen where I can note "spam", or whatever as a comment, and press submit. Then it goes kablooey.

Perhaps we'll meet again under better circumstances. ---(---(@

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

"My treasure to he who can understand."

I was wondering....

What if we charged them for advertising space?

Then the spammers would pay to keep this forum open.......

Add an admendment to the registration section... if they agree (if they even read it...) then it's just a matter of billing them....

There are advertisers on this forum, that pay for thier add, there are members that list goods for sale, but they participate and post, so we allow them free advertising for thier participation.. (Kass is a good example of a member advertiser... she post enough information and content, that there would be no charge for her "on-topic" link....)

But the add rates for Drugs, or Porno sites would be .... say $100.00 per day. The spammer agreed when they signed up to this forum.... The hardest part would be collecting it.... but it might be worth some laywers time to persue it....

The problem is there are those that are actually clicking onto these spam posts and that encourages the bloody B@$tards. I mean come on...it is obvious from the titles what they are and yet there at times 10+ noted as clicking to take a look and as long as that happens they are going to continue to post as that helps to get their link moved up.

Is there a way that if certain words are used that the post will not be admitted onto the thread, a lock of some sort?

Is there a way to lock out someone that has been removed... we have to show a home email address when we sign up??? For instance if someone registers with a certain home email address if they are removed they cannot register using that same one?

Let's go over this one more time, crew. Spammers are not posting to get people to their site from the PYRACY PUB, but if that happens...it's a bonus.

This is all about Search engines and getting their website to the top of the list for the guy/gal who is looking for porn and will PAY FOR IT.

There is probably some poor soul sitting in a cubicle being paid to post as many 'links' on other sites to the porn site so the porn site will move up on the Search Engine Result list. This person has been given 100's of email addresses to use to help create these links to the Porn site.

Bottom line, the sooner we delete the link, the less beneficial it is to the porn site and to the person paid to create the link.

How many spammers have joined in just the last two days alone?

To be honest, I think it's only a handful. They each post 5-15 links and then disappear. (Of course, I mainly see what's going on in this forum, but we try to report them to each other as well.)
