Hey mates I am thinking i could take up fishing net making whilst taking my breaks in the faires this year and most assuredly have enough time to make some pretty nice fishing nets but I dont have a clue on where to start, how to do it or even what I'll need to use to do so! So being as how I'm sure somebody (ifin not all a youz) might help with a class (guidline) materials ,hook (needle) everything I would and maybe others as well could use your knowledge and information to better adourn the piratical needs of our homes and yards decor! Everyone, I am considering re-opening Slop Shop Reproductions, and was wondering what items you would like to see reproduced. My main focus is going to be War of Jenkins Ear items so I can supply the increasing WOJE maritime hobby down here, but I would be glad to do anything from 1700-1749. Now, I know that one of the first items requested will be slop contract coats. I have patterns and can make them, but will not be able to anytime soon. My source for grey wool kersey has run dry, and I have been unable to find another. There is a company which I can contract a run of cloth for, but it requires an initial investment of $7500 that I do not have (trying to save for t…

Hello everyone! Julie and I are proud to announce that Monster Hobbies has re-opened in High River! We have changed our location from the hard to find 107 2a Ave Sw to a new, easier to find spot at 127 3rd Ave Sw. Simply turn right at the Fas-gas as you come through downtown via the old #2 Highway and continue on until you reach the end of 3rd Ave. Our new store is located beside Great Garb Clothing and has street front parking. This location is 3 times the size of our old store. This allows us to finally have simular items in the same location, such as the model cars which can now be displayed beside the Hotwheels and 1/18th scale Diecasts. There is enough space to…

Hey, this is my first post. I'm looking for a leather tricorn (not necessarily a repoduction from Pirates of the Caribbean or Brotherhood of the Wolf, but I'm not opposed to that, depending on the price and the quality of the hat). I've looked for a while, but the few good hatmakers I've found only work in felt, which I realize is period specific, but not what I'm looking for at the moment. Are there any good hatmakers out there that would work in waxed leather? Thanks in advance.

I have noticed many post in plunder about Pyrate stuff... but unfortunatly they all kinda turn into little "flaimette wars" (Hey... were all cool here.... so we don't have big flame wars.......just some dissagrements about stuff...) Someone posts about a source for a coat, or boots or hats, Then there are replys about the quality and authentisity of the item.... Then it turns into a discussion about if the item is period correct, or "I don't care if it is period, I still like it..." OK... in the Pub there are the "Authentics" and the "Play Pyrates" both groups see "Plunder" from differnt viewpoints.... and there is no problem with that... we all do what we enjoy.... …

Where in Escondido, California can I find these? I've looked at Hot Topic, Frederick's of Hollywood and Victoria's Secret and no luck. Hot Topic only has striped footless socks, not the stockings. Anyone in the San Diego area know where I can find striped thigh high stockings? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

They're not period for what I normally do but they're great pieces. First is a 1978 CVA (Conneticut Valley Arms) Mountain Rifle with Percussion Lock. I assembled the kit for this one, and am pretty proud of how it turned out. Based on a discussion with CVA, the gun is a 4 screw patch box serialized barrel that should be a Douglas Barrel. This is the better quality barrel and lock system of its time compared to more recent versions. Furniture is primarily blued with a brass patch box. .50 caliber 32" blued barrel Approx 48" overall length Packaging said 1:32" twist Maple stock About 9-ish lbs. They don't make the kits anymore and the newer version of the completed…

Greetings all. I'm a lurker turned poster and I've got a few questions. The first question I have is what did pirates keep musket balls and powder in? I want to craft a way to hold these items, but I don't actually know what pirates used or what they look like. Are there people who sell these items? My other question is about fabrics available back then. I want to make my own bandana, but I don't know what kind of fabrics were available to pirates. I know of silk and canvas (ugh), but what about cotton and hemp? I thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. I've read much of the information here and I see you all seem to know lots on the matter of pirate war…

Take a look at this site: www.whirlwindtraders.com/chrisknifepage.html This guy makes really authentic 18th cent. knives at extremely reasonable prices. I plan to order the Spanish belduque, a real beauty and good for any time between the 16th-19th centuries. It's a variant of what Peterson in Daggers and Fighting Knives of the World" called a "Mediterranean dirk." But he makes many plain utility knives as well, and most of them are good for the GAOP.

Aside from a really awsome (and expensive) store I found once in Key West I've never really come across a place that sells authentic pirate garb. Most of what Ive seen are the things for little kids with the skulls on 'em. We all know pirates didn't walk around with big skulls on their hats and bandanas all the time... so cliche. So my question is, since, if there is such a store the odds of it having a branch in my town is slim to none and slim left town: Are there any good online stores for pirate stuff? I'm looking for a tricorner hat of somesort probably a leather one. And just other pirate clothing in general. So if any one can point me in the right direction it wou…

Does anyone know where to get coins from the 1690s? Particularly Netherlandish coins. But really, I'll take anything from the 1670-1725 period as long as they look real. You see, I'm making a replica of this coat that was found with coins in the pocket and I thought it would be neat to put replica coins in the pocket.
