With a bad weather weekend to start the festival things began with a whimper for the MRF. But this last weekend was very nice and we hope to see all of you out on the streets looking for plunder (and maybe meade!).

Be there or be square. I know it conflicts with Maryland's opening weekend. One of these days PA will get it right. <hangs head in shame> Link to PA Faire Pirate Invasion Page

Hello Folks! Wanted to pass the word that the second annual Pirates of Paynetown event is being held August 10-12 at Monroe Lake near Bloomington, Indiana. The weekends doings will be held at the Paynetown State Recreation Area. This is a great time! Over the course of the weekend there will be demonstrations of 18th century sea life, historical-style boats sailing on the lake, music and rabble-rousing, plus a LARGE WATER/LAND BATTLE!!! The battle includes boats, cannons, small arms and a lot of pirates! The pirates invade from the water to capture the "town". Rumor has it that Captain "Calico Jack" Rackham himself will even be there! If'n ye want to come as a pirate, h…

This is just a poll for how many folks we have in the area or would be willing to make the trip to either Illinois or Wisconsin for either GAoP/ Early Colonial reenactments or possibly even an indoor weekend gathering during the winter..... No this is not a recruitment push for one crew or another. Nor is it an attempt to sell you a bridge (though I do have one for... Ah never mind!) This is simply a poll to see who would be interested in taking part and if (in the case of the winter gathering) it's even worth my trouble. I will also add, in no way is this a "You must be PC" kind of thing, but rather a "Let's get good people together and enjoy what we love about the gen…

On Thursday August 2nd a small detachment from the crew of the Archangel landed on the Simmon's Island (parkway) for the 10th annual Pike River Event. Though normally a buck skinner event, it was rumored the infamous Great Lakes River Pirates were to arrive in force. An opportunity of which the pirate-hunting Crew of the Archangel could not resist! By 11:00 pm Saturday morning near a shanty tavern known as Tyburn's Last Drop, the rest of the crew had arrived and assisted in an attack against the River Pirates. And so was the start of my absolute favorite reenactment weekend ever!! Though the usual assortment of hawk throws and contests were offered near the main camp..…

On Saturday, 4 August, The Pirate Brethren will be attacking the Colonial Plantation at Ridley Creek State Park, in Media, Pennsylvania. I expect the turnout for this event may make it our largest to date, so if you are in the area, stop by and say hello. Brrrr... I hope the snow melts by then!

If anyone is going to be at the New York Ren Faire on Sunday August 5th, look for a run-down pyrate with a black bandanna and pants, white shirt and greenish vest, along with the ship's cook - he's the one with all the cooking utensils hanging off him.

Hmmm... Strange. The original thread on this faire seems to have been deleted. No matter!! The 2006 Ren Fest will run weekends and Labour Day from August 19th to October 1st. For information and season passes, call (800) 966-8215. On a bummer of a note, My Lady's Cutlass have decided not to perform at this year's MN festival due to schooling and family constraints. They will still be performing at Siouxland and Twig! :) I'll be sure to post their other upcoming appearances. All the best to Capt. Thalia and Jeanne!

Any one going to the Pirate Festival at Fort York in Toronto? The evening of the 26th Aug is a 19+ only event. Night of Jolly Rogering I've ordered my ticket, and there is only a limited amount. Taken from the website: Daytime's for swinging from the rigging and games in the sun, but the night is when pirates really cut loose. Join us in The Thirsty Parrot Tavern for our Night of Jolly Rogering. An evening of bawdy Pirate drinking songs, buxom wenches, dangerous stunts, and enough laughter to fill your poop deck. Your host for the Night is Zoltan the Adequate Pirate, who will present Extreme Acts of Stupidity (and maybe end up with a hook hand or two). Joining him …

Don't forget that the MRF features a pirate themed weekend on August 26th and 27th. You may see a handsome rogue in the promotional pictures that looks rather like my avatar. The parade could also use some playtron pirates if you are interested.

So from what I have heard and read, Iowa finally has a permanent Renaissance Faire. And it's opening weekend has a pirate theme! My husband and I might be going with a group of friends. Does anyone else here plan on checking it out? http://www.dmrenfaire.com/
