I'd like to know how many of you like to take yer beasties along on your adventures? Below are a couple of photos of Cloudy, my triton cockatoo. He's wearing a "flight suit" in the picture with a skull and cross bones on it. The suit is a lycra body suit with a safety harness, that gives us a bit more security when we go out (and with it's built in diaper, it keeps my pirate coat clean!!) At the bottom are a couple of links to sound files so you can hear a few of his words. I'm counted over 100 words and phrases that he knows. Cloudy is approximately 30-something and was trained for the Baretta television series. However, due to his extreme dislike of men, he didn't …

Greetings, new member here. In my real life I am a part-time writer trying to be full time. I'm currently working on a book where pirates focus heavily. Particularly Port Royal, towards the end of it's time afloat. What I'm especially looking for is the flavor of a pirate town. What people ate, what merchants were there, what homes were like, ya know daily things. Cause the book will include time at sea as well as a prominent character who lives on Port Royal, owning a pub. I have a couple books, like Pirates own Book and Under the Black Flag. so if anybody has any good books to recommend, or films this would be great. What about the festivals. Might any of these be o…

Ahoy all...Anyone from the Greater Pittsburgh area that knows of or would like to start a Renaisance or Pirate society here in the 'Burgh. Sure we have the SCA but they are way to up tight and cloistered. You must have to sell your soul to join them. I have written for information several times and have been ignored. I want an open minded group of people who want to share in the spirit of the times. Post here with ideas or contact me by e-mail look Forward to hearing from all of you... DuCouer

Avast, ye' hearties! Tis' been another year in the sweet trade, another cruise on the Pirate Round. I'm taking me vacation on the Carolina Coast this week with me fine pirate wife and pirate daughter, terrorizing the locals. I'll be a bit busy in me cabin with the new POTC computer game I got after bein' taken to see the movie for free yesterday, so leave your gold, silver, stones, and baubles outside me cabin door. "Welcome aboard!" to the overrunning hoards of new swabbers and such, I reckon' some kinda' war is over and they've got cabin fever. Ahoy mates, I just joined the forum today and I thought I'd introduce myself. I got into the reenactment business in the SCA around 20 years ago in Buffalo NY...but only stayed around for 2 years or so. I've always hung around the fringes of revolutionary war re-enactment groups and the like and especially enjoyed going to ren faires. Four years ago I started taking along my son, who is now 14 years old. My interest in pirates and privateers has absolutely nothing to do with the POTC movie...well, maybe a little...ok, ok, you got me...I probably wouldn't have found this site if I weren't changing my colors, as it were. I am currently residing in the NYC area. Do …

Being a very recent pirate, I was looking for any and all information of a piratical nature, when I did stumble upon this place. Seems friendly enough (for a bunch 'o pirates that is ) so I thought I'd stay put for a bit. I've filled out my profile a bit; if there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask! Cheers!

I have, of course, come by way of the Pirates movie, although have always had an interest in Pirates, I had no knowledge there were actually groups out there that re-created the pirate life! I am currently a medieval reenactor, medieval swordfighting (broadswords) by way of my 2000 lbs. warhorse. I live in Oregon am 34 - not to old to become a pirate I'd hope - as long as I can have my pirate horse too! Anyway, look forward to meeting you all and have enjoyed the posts I've read so far! tasia

I'm always anxious to learn from other pirates involved in groups, troops or guilds. It helps me in making decisions about Tales of the Seven Seas. What techniques have worked for you in recruiting new members? Which events were the most successful in promoting your group? Which events had the best pirate turn outs? Do you partner with other groups? What does you group do? (skits, meet & greet, sea battles, parades etc) What do you do to promote your group? Got any other advice you'd like to share? What was your biggest mistake? What was the best thing you did?
