Just kind of curious.... I have always assumed that those that came into "pirate" via SCA called it Garb. Others that have sailed in from other re-enacting time periods seem to call it "kit" or something else....

I was wondering if anyone could help me in a lifelong dream. Me and my friend have been friends for 24 years, sense the first day of kindergarten. It started with a dream that we never got tired of, sailing the Caribbean in a pirate ship ( maybe not a actual pirate ship but one made to look like one). We started early in life and had the opportunity to take care of my parents house, and later owned the place when they left it to me (nice place by the way), we went to a near by college together and got in the real estate business and are earning quiet a bit of money, everything goes to the bank. the money saved in that bank is for our dreams. That Pirate Ship, a custom mad…

I finally managed to look through all the pictures in the gallery under general pirate photos. What a surprise to find a picture of Bloody Buckets! I had no idea who or what this guy looked like and occassionally correspond with. I think the picture is from PIP, but if I'm wrong, someone correct me. So here's a picture of our Pub Administrator for all to see without going through the whole gallery. Bloody Buckets **Hey, Bloody, you can play with my squeezebox anytime!** Rumba Rue ** **

OK, I've got a general question for the board, based on a couple of things. First, I just got back from PiP in Key West. Now, granted I couldn't stay the whole week and left before many things even started, but I kind of felt out of place. Definitely a re-enactor among a group of Faire Folk. I even heard some talk among the Faire Folk about whether to remove fox tails, etc, and how 'faire' they could look. On another thread over at Captain Twill, Cap'n William says that he tailors his look and expectation to the event. So here's the question, or actually questions. Do the patrons of this pub consider themselves Faire Folk or re-enactors? Do you change your clothing…

From Jamica Rose (PRP) and Claire Warren (Tales of the Seven Seas) Everyone, below is an email I recieved from Allen Rawl, the master shipbuilder who built the Irving Johnson, which recently ran aground and was rescued in southern CA. He gives us a detailed update on the condition of the ship and includes photographs. - Claire From: "Allen Rawl" To: >Subject: IRVING JOHNSON-GROUNDING UPDATE-4-15-05 Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 14:20:23 -0700 Et-al, Last weekend, I rode to Ventura and checked out the damage inflicted upon IRVING JOHNSON as a result of recent grounding. Two planks were removed port-side forward exposing some of the stem assembly. The gripe, at the f…

I had a long discussion last night with my companion and it's opened my eyes to what I wasn't seeing. Some of us here at the Pub play our parts as the characters in which we wish to be percieved - regardless of the reality of our real lives. I do it to a certian degree, but I can never forget my real life, and my problem seems to be forgetting that others do it to forget their real lives. So I'd like to ask the question here to you members of the Pub, when you come here, do you act like the character you wish to be seen as, or just be a name connected to you, but still in reality? I posted this in the Beyond Pyracy forum, but for those of you who don't look in there, and since many of you are RenFaire devotees, there is a new book just published called "Renaissance Faire." It's a short story collection with RenFaires as the recurrent theme. It's edited by Andre Norton and Jean Rabe and contains stories by the likes of Joe Haldeman, Esther Freisner, Elizabeth Anne Scarborough, Andre Norton and (blush) me. My story is called "Girolamo and Mistress Willendorf." It's from DAW books and is to be found in the Fantasy/SF section, since most of the stories are fantasies.

How did pirates start fires if matches weren't invented back then? Did they use a flint striking tool or some other method ? I need pictures if anyone can point me in the right direction! Thanks!

My 13-year-old son wants a pirate-themed bedroom. My wife and I have a lot of ideas, but have not settled on anything yet. I thought I would ask the crowd -- any input? Please do NOT post photos, unless you think we cannot find them. Trust me, we've found plenty (As examples, I will post one or two for you to enjoy), as we have scoured the Web. What we are looking for are good suggestions. What would YOU do? We are NOT going to replace the windows with portholes, and he still needs a bed (sorry, a hammock is impractical), but anything else is possible. What say you?

Just curious. I"m a major Jimmy Buffett fan. Contemplating trying to buy some overpriced tix right now. A Pirate Looks At Forty By: Jimmy Buffett 1974 Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall You've seen it all, you've seen it all Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder I'm an over-forty victim of fate Arriving too late, arriving too late I've done a bit of smugglin', I've ru…

I haven't posted for awhile. I see some familiar faces and some new ones. An interesting change is all the threads dedicated to writing in some way or another. As a writer that's pretty cool. Alot more posts on reenactment too. Well hello all.

It's been quite some time but I used to be a regular here. I'm from Southern New Jersey. Several members were helping me in my attempt to bring a pirate fest to my neck of the woods. Mr. Pat Croce, owner of Pirate Soul in Key West and major pirate buff has a local connection in my town. He is opening a second Pirate Soul store here. I would like to get an email to him or the appropriate person in his organization describing the festival and asking for assistance in getting our town to allow this fest to take place. No financial assistance, strictly some help in brainstorming. I could approach him when i see him in town taking exercise but that seems innappropriate. I woul…

It came to me yesterday, (while on an adrenaline high) that while we mostly carry cutlasses and various other bits of sharp steel about our persons, there's only a few on this forum that have said they actually fight with said weapons. So I'm curious: what kind of swordspersons have we out there? What styles, what training, and which preferred weapons? Being as it's my question, I'll answer first. My serious sword work started 25 years ago in the SCA. Things have changed a lot, but I still play with them. It's the only place I know I can go and fight for 6 or 7 hours with a large pool of opponents. I prefer hisoric styles, and train and fight mostly out of Silver's…

As I was busily carving my way through the second draft of my pirate novel, I realized that several of the characters sincerely needed name changes. Thought I'd toss it out here - any suggestions for 1. a Spanish female pirate who needs a "real" name plus a piratical variation of that to go on her wanted posters 2. the male villain I really want to come up with something that has not been overused, and if anyone gives me the perfect name, I'll credit you in the book if/when it is published. The story is being written as "a legend" so it need not be all that serious of a name. Thanks!

The website for the Pirate Soul museum is up and running now, it had a few glitches last time I checked it, but i'm sure they are working on it. www.piratesoul.com The museum is opening tomorrow, I was to attend the pre-opening, but I'm not sure if I will be able to or not now. I'll try to get some pictures when I can for everyone. It looks like a very cool museum. Deadly Aim

does anyone else here ever fantasize/romantisize about living in the days when pirates sailed the seas, when life was much simpler; no cars, phones, computers.... When a man ran his household and the woman stayed home to take care of her husband and children AND liked it! No worrying about credit card bills, mortgages, car payments, electric bills, insurance..... I guess I just need an escape from reality once in awhile! My best way is to read some historical romances, especially ones involving pirates! I just finished an amazing one, where a rogue pirate captured a beautiful woman who was swimming in the sea near her castle, even though she was told to stay away from …
