We sailed out underneath the Golden Gate bridge and out onto the open sea... what a spectacular sail!!! It was beautifully clear day with warm weather and rolling swells. Black dolphins leapt from the water in front of us, seals swam alongside looking for treats, and flocks of various waterfowl flew, swam and dived around us. As always, we were armed to the teeth and fired on the Hawaiian Chieftain on our way out of the Gate- This produced a very loud, very shrill scream from one of the Chieftain's passengers- At least we THINK it was a passenger, as we've never known the crew to scream in high feminine cries when we fired on them before. Although I suppose there is a…

Those of you in the Southern California/valley or LA area, Big Bear is not that far a drive. It's about 2 hours plus from Los Angeles, and it's very scenic. The faire seems to be very big and very lush. They boast events like Shakespeare plays, jousts and live steel battles. I know Big Bear is a huge camping area, so I hope to camp out there for the weekend. Website here. Anyone else planning to go? Captain Wolfy Wench

Ok, since we've already passed the first weekend of this faire, I'll be there this weekend with my two boyfriends. We'll be working the front gate probably in the afternoons. Doing Security and ticket-taking, or whatever the Boss wants us to do. Hope to see some of you there!

For those who may not know, the Beaufort Pyrate Invasion is the reenactment of an actual event at the actual location. This is the only Reenactment/ Festival I know of that does such. Were this not reason enough to attend, the location is beautiful. Looking across from Front Street to Carrot Island, you can see wild ponies grazing in the evenings. The Blackbeard presence. As you may know, the wreck presumed to be the "Queen Anne's Revenge", has been found and is being excavated off the Beaufort-Morehead Inlet. The North Carolina Maratime Museum is the repository of the Artifacts! From Sewing Needles to Cannon. All are indicative of the age and size of this vessel. The …

Not a specifically pirate event (although pirates are very welcome), this event is for all living history portayals that focus on the "Bad Boys" (and girls) of history. PIrates, highwaymen (and highwaywomen), rebels, gypsies (the historical kind, not the Renn-Faire fantasy image), and other historical portrayals from the "darker" side of history are perfect for this event. The locations is at Historical Tunnel Mill Living History Center in Charlestown, Indiana. While not a strictly juried event, folks wanting to come should have their impressions based solidly on historical fact and not fiction. The timeline is loosely the 18th century (basically the long 18th century, o…

Calling All Sea Dogs and Scoundrels of Some Repute (and Those who have hearts bigger than their deck): I be needing your help, my brethern and sisters of the seas. Due to health and pregnancy complications, the lady who was going to provide children's entertainment and games for the Illinois Renaissance Festival has had to pull out under physician's orders. Our thoughts, prayers, and wishes for an end to the complications and a safe delivery for both mom and baby go out to this courageous lady. Sadly however, we, the board members of the IRF must now find a replacement so that the children of the realm are not forgotten. To that end, I am asking for t…

On Saturday, 4 August, The Pirate Brethren will be attacking the Colonial Plantation at Ridley Creek State Park, in Media, Pennsylvania. I expect the turnout for this event may make it our largest to date, so if you are in the area, stop by and say hello. Brrrr... I hope the snow melts by then!

Greetings! We had an SCA demo this last weekend, and the Iron Lotus was invited to come out and put on a cannon-firing display... we ended up firing off the cannon all day, and the "Pirate Cove" was very popular with the crowd. Here be a link to some pictures: Demo Pictures Hopefully, successful demos such as this one will open the door for more acceptance of Black Powder-related activities within the local SCA groups here in Ansteorra. I also hope to fuel the acceptance of Pirate personnae here as well. Our crew's demo's to date have been very educational and we try to make sure that most of our activities and the stuff in our camp is heavily documented to prevent com…

Here in Depoe Bay, we have plenty of Pirate businesses... Pirate Cove gift shop, Pirate Booty Pub, Pirate Coffee Company, and down the road a spell there's Captain Dan's Pirate Pastry Shop, Pirate Island, Pirate's Plunder. There was until recently a pub called the Black Pearl. Why? We have a bay called Pirate Cove on any map you'd care to look at. Then there's the Sea Hag restaurant, and my own shop: Things Rich and Strange. All good reasons to visit. But wait! Each August we all get together and put on the Pirate Treasure Hunt, Saturday August 21st to be sure. Teams of four compete to win treasure chests stocked by the local merchants and every team's a winner, of cours…

Saturday night, the 23rd of August, I took Captain Kora Roberts and her beau to the Festiva de Piratas in Portland Oregon. The pub itself was all decked out to look much like an old Tavern, which honestly I don't think was much of a stretch for it. The crowd was wild, willin' and well-dressed, almost everybody there was in their pyrate finest! The show started with Broadside Johnny singing a collection of old Sea Chanteys and firing up the rabble. Next came the Dolemites (hey Kora, correct me if I'm wrong, but it WAS them, next, wasn't it?) and they ROCKED the house with some raunchy sea tunes including one about Lizzie Borden where they lit half the stage on fire!! GREA…

I will tell you, lads and lassies, that I count meself fortunate in that I have had the distinct pleasure of attendin' ALL of the Festival de Piratas since their inception, and no finer a Pirate Shindig is to be had on any of the Seven Seas. The first year, the Festival was held at the Snake & Weasel Pub in NE Portland (no finer a fittin' name for a galley full of sea dogs !!) which quickly met it's capacity and the party spilled out into the streets *luckily, the neighbors were of a partyin' mind as well....arrr). The legend continued the next year as a larger forum was needed to hold all of the Bretheren that showed... at the Medicine Hat Lounge and Concert Hall..…
