  5. cool article!!! we should be arriving friday we are thinking about 7 pm-ish ohio time......alex when he gets there afer tech school--- and he waid to tell kate her slushie will be a mushie by the time he gets there....LOL.... monster cookies made, brownie bites , onion lovers twist bread and buns, crab dip, ham dip, carrots, celery, apples , pears thus far.......ready to go.. we will see what i can cook up tomorrow......... what is transportable and stays fresh is definitely a hard thing to plan for.... for me anyway..... and if mission can stand cold veggie patties, there will be those too !! OHHHHHHHHHHH......and NO ONE says anything about the light pink shirts the men will be wearing... taint enough bleach in the world!! never NEVER use dylon dye...... it bleeds ALWAYS when you wash it!!!!!!!!ARRGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
  6. Monsuier-------- i am totally in agreement with callenish........... WASH IT.....AND SEE HOW MUCH WASHED OUT FIRST......... never try to dye/ bleach fabric in a FRONT LOAD WASHER...... UNLESS you want streaky tie-dye look!! { dont ask me how i know}.... you can bleach the fabric in a top load washer.... fill it with water and add the bleach { a little or alot--i reccomend A LITTLE--MAYBE a cup and a half for a full washer}... LET WATER AGITATE... then drop in your cloth as it is agitating....... OH--SPLURGE AND BUY GOOD BLEACH....NOT elcheapo brand..... get purex then spread it out FLAT IN THE GRASS in the sun to dry for days......... here at home i do as callenish said-sew the outfit... hang out side for days on end.....or give it to a bunch of kids to wear and be hard on...... or even this method--call it the "SILAS THATCHER" method...... FLOAT YOUR GARMENT IN A SWIMMING POOL THAT HAS REALLY CLEAN WATER THAT YOU KNOW THERE IS ALOT OF BLEACH/ CHEMICALS IN--- BE perfect in about 3 days.........."connie-- WHAT IS MY PIRATE JACKET DOING floating there IN THE POOL?"ahahahahahahahahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaa " geee hun, i guess the kids took it out there and i did not notice-- but look at my TAN!"
  7. i already have one........ but i aint telling what it is....... actually we all have it already........ if you have it , you already use it, and know what it is!! and you know it is borrowed anyway........ but it is still a SUPER power......... he he he he he
  8. what an adorable son!!!! :) { got me 7 of them, they are FUN!} enjoy him!!!!
  9. You know how they say that you can't fold a piece of papermore than seven times? I wonder how many times we can split this hair? my only answer to this is perhaps one cannot physically fold a piece of paper 7 times, BUT METAPHYSICALLY SPEAKING, we can comprehend the event being done.... it is possible and probable.... THERE FORE, OUR MINDS ARE DRAWN TO CONTEMPLATE....TO ATTEMPT TO COMPREHEND..... basic metaphysics.......... just as there are laws on physics, chemistry,,{ BECAUSE WE CAN SEE THEIR APPLICATION AND LIMITS},, we can assert and attempt to assert meaning and comprehension.... perhaps we are lookign for a place where there are NO LAWS to be obeyed.... YET STRANGELY, we cannot find that within our own universe and planet..........
  10. and WHY did we do everything to fight it? ......... i do agree with your statement that when the romans came, we fought against change... hmmm maybe it had soemthing to do with paying their taxes? their lack of respect of the cultures traditions and values { sure does not seem like we had a whole lot of traditions TO value back then !!LOL!!}........... i dont know why roman culture was fought against..... the only thing i can gather is that for a richer, easier life, one has to master food and shelter and clothing first... and be stable in consistantly providing it..... then there is time for arts, and specialization of things... only a culture that could consistantly provide for food and shelter would rise above in ways of technical advances in all areas of non necessities........ and i dont think for one minute piracy ended...the craft is still alive and well!!!. it just changed forms-- different people "used" the ways of pirates { hey pirates are from all era where there is water and water travel}.... and once encountering water pirates, then it began on trade routes.. but we would call them brigands instead of pirates......... there are corporate pirates, and in any business that is or can be , there are pirates..... and in general , how you feel about pirates depends on which end of treatment being doled out... are yah giving it? or receiving it?
  11. being a simple , easy to please man { notice i did NOT say simple minded--cause he aint!!}.... he wants steak and chicken kabobs for dinner, apple pie for dessert......DONE! and me at his disposal later...... i am so gateful and glad you are here on this planet, my love! and that you chose to spend all of your days with ME! and your progeny!....... happy birthday! my love!!
  12. i think no matter what time of history you look at, superstitions come into play.... i think we need to understand what a superstition is...... the words definition.... in a peoples attempt to understand " action= consequence ", and in terms they could grasp intellectually, they found or thought they found a relationship between two events -- one event or cicumstance that caused the other... in a seeking to stop bad consequences, they said things like " you catch the cold tha causes your death if you go out in the rain without shoes on "........{ knowing nothing about germs , viruses, food storage, bacteria} and as far as christianity, as a way of/type of/ kind of incorporating the culture of the people they sought to convert, has alot to do with things....... christmas was the conversion of the roman cultures feast of saturnalia ..{ if remember correctly} the church/ catholics/ christians came into the culture they were trying to convert and knew that people held long established traditions..... and they sought to " redeem" "sanctify" the traditions.... you dont easily seperate peoples cultural traditions... you have to replace them...... just try replacing thanksgiving... christmas.... easter.... and even today we have some superstitions that simply no one nor any business approaches to try and change.... where i work, there is no operating room numbered 13......... no recovery room slot numbered 13....... rooms where patients have shot themselves are CLOSED....{ good thing there aint that many!!} ever known anyone who bought a particular brand of vehicle that simply performed horribly? how many people do you know would willingly choose to purcahse the same name or type of vehicle... is that called superstition or is that called reason/logic? expereince? inability to forgive or inability to comprehend? unable to let go of a grudge????......... excellent topic.. excellent discussion...
  13. ohhhhhhhhhhh... i like "b"..... research into millinery will add alot and has aided me tons!...........sometimes the hair styles are also in them...{ so you know how they kept them on their heads!!} and i would think that location and weather would also be part of the equation..... so much to learn! cap'n thank you for all your hard work! :) lady constance
  14. Liam, things back then certainly were no different back then than they are now. i would have to say that the state of the churches back then were in tumult--just as they are today. back then they had very poor concept of fatherhood at all levels of society... and how society views father hood has a direct correlation to mans understanding of divine father hood....{if your father was not/ is not a man that treats you well and views you as valuable, having worth and dignity , well.... yah aint gonna think much about divine father hood....we humans tend to ascribe to God mans nature ..and not a divine nature...} back then fathers considered their children and wives as property.. there was no "dignity of the human person"...unless you were a man.... if you reached manhood--with disease and illness running rampant! amazing to me that running water was known about and promoted and important in roman times, then WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED????????? and civilization spent loooooooooooong years in the dark ages.....even when we talk about the enlightenment of man... and all the middle ages and coming forth til today........ i dont know what school aged children beleive..they cant believe much if we judge them by their actions since ALL actions are based on some system of beleifs......... i dont send my kids to school--i home school them! { many reasons, for one they dont teach reason and logic in schools anymore...} {kind of cool to think about us having "faith" that when we flip a light switch, we beleive lights should come on...." interesting topic!! :) lady constance
  15. hmmmm.... their culture was saturated with religion and superstition...and in their day, from our standpoint, we could call them one in the same from our understanding and changes from known psychology advances and knowldege of disease and anatomy and physiology...... they did nto think about God? hmmm reconsider the black spot on page of holy writ........ and when they buried at sea? read accounts of men at sea...logs, journals, accounts.... you certrainly dont haveto think about it...but they did...
  16. oh--- and i have been resesrching bedcoverings and quilts as well... interesting info...beenaround for a long time and were considerd very valuable-- so valuable as to evenbe listed in property record and wills
  17. whoa ho ho!!! so historical text does support what we find in art !!!! cap't sterling--- good job-- and thank you for putting the time in!! although i know you dont do characters from spain, did you at least look up mantillas? and their age and function? and do you think that considering how large and how much profit spain had coming in, they might have infuenced surrounding cultures to have an impact-- in regards to ladies hair coverings? { their lace seems to have done so!} pax, lady constance
  18. amazing------- a friend of my sons reccomended that movie to him we watched it, and well....i just think lots of thingsabout that movie... my sons will be happy to hear this and worse than that, they will be all fuddled up because their old mother knew it first...........i think that is the best part... LOL!! lady con
  19. learning about history , for me only reinforces that i am sooooooooooooo grateful that God chose me to be born in the 2oth century............gratitude is what i get from reading about history.......... grateful that i can play pirate butdont really haveto live it...and teh cathoolic church was really funky back then....no thought what so ever about the LOVE God has for us...it was all servile master slave type of relationships except the saints..........no cognition about howmuch we are loved... i do wonder how many figured that out and had peace and loved God back instead of fearing to be sent straight to hell......... lady constance
  20. Liam, you ought to be right proud!! the pattern you made is awesome! and i hope you saved it---i hope your woman makes you an apple pie or some dessert that you love in appreciation!!!!!!!!!!{or whatever token of appreciation that shows you her gratitude!! } i dont know what era you seek to re-enact, but artwork would support such a gown....1660's- 1690's country folk-- i shall look around in art books that i have to give you an artist and a title of such .. .. give me a few days that being said, i do think if you saved your pattern, add anywhere between 3- 5 inches flaring it ever so slightly outwards athe hem-- flare it towards, and that it mimics and the same shape as the hips-- look up "peplum skirt shapes" and "tulip shape skirt" for an idea of what that means as far as line and shape.... google 18th century or even exact years of GaoP.... for womens gowns.... that will help you see the shapes that were common... i think you should enjoy the baske of glow from your accomplishment-- the fabric choice is LOVELY and definitely historically accurate... did you enjoy your endeavors into tailoring? i hope so because you did excellent work! cant wait to see wht else you can do!!! and i would especially love to see your button choice!! Peace, lady constance

  22. Mission-- once again, you have out done yourself!!! thank you for the great delight in reading!! and now, i get back to managing my very own set of wild orangutan's hoplessly flailing around doing their school chores............ and the children are still furthering their studies of exact time of death for small flying creatures,,,,,,i fear reading their conclusive studies after years of research....... PAX, lady constance
  23. hmmmm i was bullied... but i did not care...when i finally noticed, i realised that i was not the only one...i suppose that was about in 6th grade.... well come 8th grade, i decided that there were MORE unpopular, picked on kids than popular ones.... if we banded together, we geeks could overhaul the world......... so i sought out all the dejected, rejected, lamenting souls.. and there were many...and banded them together.. with logic and emotional suaveness.... that we band together and not to react in kind---ever.... that our sheer volume of doing the right thing would cause the adults to notice....and the meanies to change.... both happened.... been doing it ever since--sticking up for the underdogs and the abused and poorly treated.....we might get beaten up together, but at least the whippings are halved..we each only hurt half as much.... i know no other way ... it is a beautiful loving thing to do...{and a side effect is that it plain out FEELS GOOD!} do unto others as you want them to do to you.... lead by example...........
