  1. CH-- thank you for coming here and answering!! and feel absolutely NOOOOO guilt for plugging your place!!! i hope you choose to stay here and get at least a few new customers... i hope the money follows your love and expertise of your craft!!( as the experts, dreamers, and theologians claim it does!!} this is a great sandbox to play in here at pyracy.com :) ( there , i shamelessly plugged us!!} :) lady constance feel free to go over the jumps thread and critique my pattern design...LOL!!
  2. Liam--the jumps are on my form that i made out of duct tape(ME)... so they are for the correct person... and you are right about i would look like a ren faire chick { which i wish to avoid at all costs!!!} Captain Sterling-- I CAN CALL THE MUSEUM WHERE THEY ARE AND ASK THOSE QUESTIONS? I DONT HAVE TO GUESS? WOW! i did not know that.... wonder if i have enough cell phone minutes to do so....hmmmmm...happen to have the #? { no wait this is the age of the internet--i will google it!!}.......perhaps i shall acquire yet another friend or 2!!!} once i have the pattern and garment perfected,(WHICH YOU ALL ARE HELPING ME PERFECT!!! THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!} i can and will easily recopy the design on more parchment paper--i cannot make adjustments for sizing to a larger size( this one is about a 4/6--34inch bust, 29 inch waist"-- but if a person can do that, well, they can have a pattern for free.... UGGGG. got to attend to my daily duties then MORE SEWING!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL EVER SO MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT--- YOU GUYS ARE FABULOUS!!
  3. Callenish-- i think you are dead on about the arm scythes being cut deeper in the garment.(and i am pretty sure i have figured out how much to chop off to attain the look) and also about the neck shape/ line....(and i am sure that i have that cut figured out too} no-- i was not planning on embroidering/crewel work--i am not that good yet!!! i have a soft pink silk/wool blend that LOOKS quilted in design--so i am planning to "cheat" that way--get the look without the work LOL!!!--or once the desing is perfected, i could use my embroidered flowered fabric---but i beleive it is 100% poly!! and it may prove to be too hot to wear--even with a linen lining... not sure which i shall choose. and about the boning being on the inner lining and then the garment outside then attached,,yes-- just have to figure out how to do that....and make it lay and look fitted well.... that will be a nice challenge... and do you also mean that, the inner lining has as much boning as a set of stays? do i understand you correctly? is that what you mean? well must go dream about the whole process...i get answers there.. THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH for your input!!! :)
  4. the grudge by tool or let my love open the door by pete townsend or there is a pirate rock band called " FLOGGING MOLLY".... they are pretty good pirate rock and roll...
  5. ok---- this draft is based on Mooses /Captain Sterlings second posted picture... 1.i think the neck line is a bit too high and perhaps even not quite the correct curve/shape 2. i think the arm scythes are too high and need instead a deeper cut sooo..... does anyone mind comparing the 2 garments and telling me your opinion? and i also think i read that they had boning in the side seams AND the back down the middle... what say you? and i fully intend to runa small slice of boning down the front right and left side so that the spiral lacing wont bunch up the front opinions please!!!
  6. found a ladys suit( jacket and skirt} made out of a GORGEOUS PINK silk wool combo ......... tis beautiful!! just wanted to share!

  9. ohhhh yah that ren tailor website is awesome.... so motivating and full of ideas and how to's-- THANKS BRIGHT!!! been a few days, but i wantd to once again say thinks for all of your guys' input and advice... now back to the fingers of my stays....the color is simple navy on onse side and cranberry on the other.. just does not feel glamourous enough....i am a commoner in real life...i want to be the elite, well dressed, and look fabulous when i re enact!!!... but that does not ever turn out well.....i am more suited to being at the camp fire cooking , cleaning and mending for my brood!
  10. -- the other day i found and purchased a coat for 10 bucks--- i knew it was a REAL ANIMAL PELT coat.... but had NO idea what it was .... upon coming home and showing silas the coat, he simply said " well, the label says lambs wool, so i guess it is that"..... after laughing my butt off at my complete momemts of absolute idiocy.....LOL... anyway--that thing is sooooooooo huge, that i really dont know what to do with it.... i am thinking of making a blanket out of it.. like a mattress pad thingy--- so i can throw it down for bedding in the tentage for re enacting..... and the smaller pieces i can use for trim on something.... i just know that england had to use lamb pelts for many things....aside from the wool they used... any ideas? suggestions? interested to find out what you all have to say.....
  11. Lady Brower, i can hear what you are saying.... i suppose that i can see that i am brooding over injury from the past.. that nots very healthy for me. i amlearning to forget anothers wounds to me. i suppose that i know of many others who have been wounded themselves by others. i try to balance these 2 thoughts: 1. the first one to cry 'fowl' or 'offence' or 'prejudice' of another is usually the one whom refuses to see anothers point of view and their rights......... think ACLU 2. truly humble people simply cannot be offended by another if they can keep perspect ive scope and sequence in mind. ( think in the whole scope, does it really matter that another offends me?} quite simply, i am guilty of both. and so is everyone else..... the only fair thing i can say is that ALL of us are learning to speak CHARITABLY to others and ALL of us are learning to think CHARITABLY about others' actions. i desire to understand why some seem to enjoy critiquing others { and that also includes me!!} what do we gain in doing so? what do we lose in doing so? and perhaps we should ASK before we comment on someone elses things..... i seek to neither inflame nor enrage anyone! so before this entire thread goes into flames....
  12. quarter master james---- empirically? AHAHAHHAHAAAA! and how shall we determine that--what is obvious to your senses is not necessarily so for the rest of us.... scientific method HOW in this scope and sequence?????????????????? :)
  13. you crack me up!! cant say i ever heard nautical terms of port or starboard, fore or aft in applying it to a hat!!! i can think of one occasion hearing my husband shout " port ! port !port side!!!" so the kid he was sailing with would not let the boat go down/ under/flip................. thanks for the smile!! and chuckle!
  14. as always, i get very good advice here......... i found a TON of bloggers who have done mantuas, bodiced gowns,4 or 5 different sets of stays from various eras.... and you guys are right.. 190 dollars in books would probably be a better bet..... and the blogs are freeeeeee!!! and rhumba stitch nazis frighten me....those poeple cant (or dont) use reason or logic and know nothing about metaphysics and have no concept of how to proceed in the process of argumentation..... thanks guys! and gals!!

  19. IMG]http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad323/conniemrazik/DSCN5262.jpg[/img] well.. got the body double done, the princess cut pattern sewn and drew the lines for cutting the trial stays/ bodice gown top { thus the different colored markings}.......... and, just for fun, the BEST thing i have found for making paper templates of new pattern peices is parchment paper!!!!!!! huge roll, easily drawn on, easily cut!!! sooooooooooooo , i mean, sewwwwwwwwww -- wish me luck!!
  20. with joyful exuberance, i ask you Foxe, would we be better off using logic or metaphysics to discern this matter? if a=b, OR if a is not equal to b then..... et al or possibility, probability, potential versus actual...et al
  21. WOULD NOT MISS IT FOR THE WORLD!! fabulous event.... cant pass up the fabulous PEOPLE we met and saw and had fun with.... this year we shall tie the tots to the sleeping bags, then tie to the trees ! so i can attend the party .. i am soooooo done with not attending the late night parties!!!!!
  22. i concour with mad dog and callenish.... i dont think anyone has hackles raised.... we are a bantering on and on, preaching to the choir, airing our thoughts and opinions and supporting our points of view with reason and logic. and i have no intention of offending anyone. so Foxe, if i have offended thee, please forgive me....
  23. i too , agree-- however..i am too busy having fun doing the actual pirste stuff to contemplate opening a restaurant that gives the feel of back then.......as i am sure the rest of us are.... but......that is a good retirement plan! and dream--- opening up a place such as that-- for dinner , weddings, parties... thanks for the thought! it made me happy and gives me mental munchings on!!! lady c
  24. personally, i would wear it and worry not about fellow pirate brethren having an issue. you know enough to support your use of said object. decide wisely whether to engage in that conversation with others at an event. if i saw you at an event, i would be the kind of person who would approach you and ask if i could take a good look at it. look at your sewing and comment on how wonderful your talents were to produce such a fine garment. i would ask about the construction and marvel at your abilities and encourage you to more sewing.{ make me one LOL!!} i see NO sense in bickering. i can listen to your views and opinions without having to offer mine. you would have to ask me my opinion. i find it more important to share what we have and hold in common instead of what seperates us . i beleive you have sound judgement and good evidence to support your findings. i find myself in agreement that folks had much more common sense back then than in our present age. i support the research people do, and i honor that they devote their time to doing such. and i have learned that their position and opinion are just that. i am not better than them. their knowledge brings to them something they want and need. hopefully, it brings them happiness too-- happiness they share and use for drawing together and not division among people in the hobby and craft. for questions such as these, i tend to go metaphysics.... in 400 years, based on the pictures of our current times, what shall the people of the future think of our times and clothing? shall they cast and deem that all of us dressed as the holly wood style of this day and age? what will they think we common, middle class folks wore?-- if they choose to re enact our times, how shall they dicker on and on about what was common? what will they use as supporting evidence? paintings? old magazines and newspapers they find in some ones barn? will the computers then purge all evidence of the poor and common mans dressing or will they purge all the rich and famous evidence if we end up going to a socialist kind of governance? how will they err? how will they be correct? and what does it matter, their error and the correctness ? lady constance
  25. so--- is your dress form completed? I HOPE SO AND KUDOS TO YOU!! i just keep dreaming about the duct tape dummy dress form.... but have not gotten around to actually DOING anything about it..... AND I JUST KEEP FIDDLING WITH stays design.... chopping up paper peices .. lots of tape and math.... there are days i think i need to find and take a college class on pattern designing....for that extra edge... plow forward!! and stop imagining that a dress form would make this process easier.... live here and now , not in dream land.. makes dreams in fabric! onward ho!
