  1. thought of something to make it easire for you callenish... 1.get an old bra of saltys...place it on dummy and fill the cups with fluff { or better yet get an old bra at thrift store that is somewhat padded that fits well her shape and smoothly looks nice--there should be no wiggle room!!} 2.find an old fitted shirt( as in a fitted button down} of saltys that fits SKIN TIGHT.. one that she fills out every inch of it! place shirt of dummy open and begin to place padding or wrap with fabric that is thicker in volume keep opening and closing the buttons to make it fit the dummy as it does her { take a photo of her in the shirt to refer to}
  2. well it is a great thought--- go for it!!!! and let me know how it turns out!!! i saw one on criagslist.org in our area.. wanted 30 bucks for it--- guess it would be a good idea to see if it is still avaliable........ i just HATE craigslist ads that dont list their phone number... emailing themis a drag..even if safer....
  3. Lady Barbosa-- no need to explain! although i cant say i have a list of 15 things, i can say that there is not enough time to sew all i would love to own.... SO I HEAR YAH!!! I HIT THE MOTHER LOAD TODAY bargain shopping!!!!leathers, lambs wool coat, silk wool suit , silk suit and scarf,to name a few things!!! now, back to sewing!
  4. tis truth.... and i did not know one could make a temporary email address anywhere!!! THANKS AND FABULOUS IDEA Callenish... and then again ,you are full of fabulous ideas!!!
  5. if only there were 32 hours in day........... tell me, am i the only one who can imagine a fine jacket of silk produced nowadays , hack off the parts that are not necessary and VIOLA! done!!!!!! and tomorrow is HALF OFF EVERYTHING at value village!!! muwwaaaahhaaaaaahaaaaaaaa!!! connie now doing the insane seamstress dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. thank you captain sterling and moose!!! look simple to make!!! and now the NOT thank you part... STOP MAKING ME WANT ALL THESE PRETTY THINGS!! just stop stop stop!! geeez--- let me finish one thing first!!! ( THERE --MY BLAME FOR THE DAY!!!} wait a minute! blaming does not good for anyone-- personal responsibility is the only thing that does anyone any good! self control connie! self control!!
  7. ohhhhhhhhh thak you both for the reccomedations.. they look very promising! and it is nice to know that they are reputable and that you , Jack, have actual dealings with them! thank you! i knew you all would know!
  8. Callenish-- yah the ad will say found a wedding ring. if you can describe it or even better yet, provide a photo, you can have it back. (i do have wee bit of experience with the craftiness and con artist seeking prescriptions .....) the only caveat i havenot thought about is, i DONT want them calling my home or cell phone number..... a few weeks ago, my 17 year old found a cell phone.. he found out the owners name and called and said he found their phone.. BUT he gave his older brothers name and cell phone and let the BIG boy deal with the guy { BIG boy ,6'5" 270 pounds works in the slums and carrys a peice...) the owner was delighted it was returned and give them 20 bucks as a finders fee { was a 300 dollar phone}--- i may do the same with big boy..... and i so appreciate your caring what happens to me and making sure some liar does not profit from it.... and it is a size 4 or5..so i would bet it belonged to a lady!! and not a man.... and i wontlose it as i am currently wearing it on my right hand!!
  9. i suppose i could write a lost and found piece and see if anyone claims it.. if they can describe it and perhaps even a picture... i suspect it will prove fruitless.... if i was in the same situation i would want no less... i suppose that i could put it up in the landromat they found it in.... that might avail more..... thanks for making me a better human being!!! i shall do it!
  10. this past summer, i found a blouse at good will that the fabric content it 50% silk, 50% linen.... it is the sheerest, glimmery gossamer like fabric..and would make the most delightful gown.. and i have been trying to track some down ever since then... the blouses label says "neiman marcus" { off the top of my head}.... sadly, it is bright orange!! i have googled and googled this kind of fabric... cant find it anywhere.... you people are the BEST when it comes to typing iin and finding stuff available on line! and suggestions or ideas or sources?
  11. i am convinced that using a princess cut gown and tabbing it at the bottom and fabric inserts between the tabs will give the same desired effect and look...... the front of the princess cut can be elongated and then boned like stays... running the ribbing/boning as one would for our time period... sleeves can be attached and not tied on...(arm scythes not as hard as one thinks they are-- math!} i traced off that white gown i found... the pieces are cut/shaped closely to what i see in waughs bookand what is posted as exploded veiws of contruction and peices shape.... so to choose a fabric to demo and trial run.... any one have any caveats to offer? advice? suggestions?
  12. this is soooooooooooo off topic! our wsher motor fried after 11 years .... new motor orderd { we can afford pirating because silas can diagnose and FIX anything!!!} soooo that means we are hitting the laundromat til washer fixed..... last week saturnday night the silas and i went there for a date night... silas just loaded up the van with the laundry and took the 3 youngest kids there.. i told them to bring me home treasures.. old crazy socks, quarters, scour the place for things that might be useful or fun--- whatever... { got a daughter that makes sock things}.... well so there i am sitting at the sewing machine working on a set of stays( only lining and trim to put on and they are DONE!!) and after than drafted a pattern from a good will dress to make it into a short jacket, and i get text messages and photos of the kids having fun at the laundromat... THEN I READ THE FINAL text message which says: grace found a ring.. i think it is real!--- sooooooooo home they come after loads are done.... A 14KARAT HEAVY GOLD WEDDING BAND---{ dont bothertellingme it is yours!! you dont like here-- or i shallsay something like tell me the name of the laundromat!!} apparently as the kids were on the floor, looking under the machines for stuff, they found piles of change { very enchanting to 5,7, and 9 year olds... the 7 year old saw what he thught was gold quarter.. grsace goes digging and low and behold!!! A RING!! the kids are so thrilled --i told them i would buy the ring from them.... they can have the cash!! {at scrap gold prices you know} sooooooooo know what the kids said" MOMMMMMY lets go visit ALLLLLLLLLLL the laundromats in our city and we shall do the same! maybe we will find MORE TREASURE!!!"..... OH MY GOODNESS! i think we are raising pirates!!! { well at least opportunists!!!} so-- any one needing spare change...i suggest laundromats!!! treasure ye be seeking? aye--- GO!!!!
  13. i dont know how long the sale lasts... probably til the fabric is gone would be my guess--that is how my hancock does it ... i only got a yard and a half of the embroidered fabric-- that is all they had. i MIGHT go to another store or two and see if they have more.. willget it for you.... it is too rich a fabric for my taste except for a set of stays.. long ones..i will pick it up for you if i find more yardage.... just too cheap at 3 bucks a yard to let a 58 inch wide fabric go!!! {and silas is soooooo good about telling me to go to fabric whorehouse!! LOL!!! let you know! ( you just gave me a reason to get out of the house tomorrow--thanks! cant be disappointing pirate friends yah know!!
  14. Rhumba Rue-- i am sure the tailors and seamstresses had patterns --- and enlarged or decreased for fit of each indivisual... then again, maybe not!---maybe it was like cooking-- you did it so many times repeatdely that the recipe/ pattern was in your head!
  15. hmmmm.... i would wait on captain sterling or spit fire stevens to answer that question....{they seem to have all the good books!!!} i KNOW they are boned..... just dont know if fully boned

  21. 2 days a week, i work with all the major class III and IV narcotics, opiates, paralytics,anti anxiety meds.I use them to my advantage,,,, i mean to releive folks' pain. I analyse emesis,sputum and stool samples and objects/things we cut out of people that they no longer need,want or dont work any more,dont belong there, or had no idea they would get stuck inside of them. i insist that you keep breathing even though you just received enough dope to take you near deaths doorstep. i analyze electrical patterns of your hearts, and watch that they dont stop....( i dont think there is ANY possible way to class up what i do for pay!!! RN} the other 7 days a week, i observe 9 children and ensure that they become fine human specimens with morals and integrity and intelligence. you people are amazing!!! and fabulously interesting!!!

  23. well lady stevens, i appreciate your input..... posted below are the front and back of a current gown { from our time}... see where the shoulder is ... {now i know thegown is a bit loose on me} but i am going to incorporate the sleeve placement on a set of stays pattern and make a bodiced gown ( top and bottom coodinate but are not one} (drafting the pattern from the stays superimposed with sleeve as they are attached to the dress pictured... do you think that would work,and be close enough????
  24. no! it cannot go bad... if i remember right nothing over 40 proof can go bad....... it MAY darken with age... FYI, i had a bottle of galiano that was more than 19 years old-- much darker yellow than the new bottle i bought,but it drank fine and tasted just fine...!!
  25. well it dye aint much help for a fabric with polyester--the natural fabric dyes well, but the polyester wont.... ohh wait you mean for my white linen!!such a goof!!!
