  1. geez--thats 1/27th of my annual salary!
  2. yah know-- i tend to gravitate towards art rather than text for research, because no one would have hung a painting in their home that was way out of line with the current days trends....back then may of the dutch were frowned upon for still lifes of fruit and domestic items.... for a while at least.... their art was FORMAL and had rules and different artists went to different schools to learn tecniques and such.... i think if you can find a continuous supply of clothing examples in art, all being familiar in garment line and style, i think we can err on the side of reason...... if we have at least 23 artists renderings of short jackets with all kinds of different hemlines, back and front.....from 1690- 1740....... i find no problem with using ones mind and judgement to use and create from period collections of art....infact i think it is rather foolish to not do this.... if we only use extant garmnents, that leaves us with littel choice in anything regarding clothing....... just my opinionated opinion!! LOL lady constance and ooooops about the wrong title to the painting--- but CHECK OUT THE THREE DIFFERENT BACK STYLES Of GARMENTS!! now you have 3 different period correct backs! YAHOOOOO!
  3. sounds like he died from an unevactuated subdural hematoma--- and perhaps the broken vertebra was high enough to cause swelling to the brainstem--herniating it...compounding things sad,sad,sad..... doubt the exact cause of death will be made public.... prayers for the man and his family
  4. i talked for quite a while with the guy who was filming the festival for the local PBS station--- he said it would be uploaded onto u tube in a couple of weeks....
  5. went to pirates in paynetown and saw a plethora of womens head coverings.... were mob caps from GaOP? i keep onlooking at paintings and art from the late 17th and 18th century..... so many variations.. and yet there are many women without head coverings and hair up-- was this just for their portrait that they did not cover their hair/ did it vcary by region/country/ religious belief? can some one point me a book or website or other source?
  6. denverfabrics.com--- they are alkso great for damasks and silks and upholstery fabrics but know well the difference between a melton and flannel, summer weight, mid weight winter weight, boiled wool, sometimes you are best to order swatches.......... and iof you do end up with a weight of wool that aint as thick as you prefer, IRON ON LINING to stiffen it just perfectly-- to hold the shape you want.....
  7. amazing coat transformation!!! excellent job!!! svoroj-----------you might be able to hide the slit pockets by stitching the 2 edges together...with invisible thread-- fair warning that stuff is a be atch to work with.... i know of no way to fix the top breast pocket short of patching it up like it ripped there and making the patch obvious yet not too obvious,,, decide to make it look like yah tore it in battle and then repaired it,,,,,i dunno...wear a sash like the french?---i will ask a few sewing ladies i know
  8. ahhh silas i know you to be a man of your word-- but where are the pics?
  9. i have taken many a mans wool suit coat, removed the sleeves and turned into waist coats galore-- just buy a size or two bigger....and you can also make sailors jackets out of them also--cut off extra at the bottom... most mens coats and finermade clothing has the two part sleeves that are from that era......... always buy a larger size and then take it in!! would love to see the coat you made for your beloved cascabel!!!
  10. captnscurvey--- take a good look at the front opening line you want for your pirate coat.....study the lines well --draw the lines with chalk on your coat--- put the coat on and double check that it is the shape that you want...make sure to allow for closing the seam and that it will still close around you open the seams the entire length of the front..... you are going to have to cut the curve you want on one side...cut one side first-- take the peice that you cut off, and place that as pattern for the other side of the coat so they match exactly---- remember to flip it as a mirror image... you are going to have to close the edge by hand unless you can figure out how to turn the entire coat inside out to sew from the inside { this can be done-- it is just a pain in the arse} pay close attention to how the garment was contructed in the first place.. it will behelpful as you sew more and more... i cannot help you with the sleeve issue because i dont understand what you mean....is it that the sleeves of the coat youare making dont fit as you wish? or are you using the second jacket for the bell sleeves pirates have on them??? good luck , lady constance
  11. sounds and looks like you all had a FABULOUS time!!! and i sooooooooooo appreciate all the photos of you all in your garb!! you fill my head with ideas--- all of the clothing is splendorous!!!{is that a real word--i need expresses well my sentiment and i am not getting out a thesarus this late at night } lady constance
  12. Mark-- would you all consider doing was done at paynetown? i think that was a good idea and if you could suggest items that could be made, i might be able to do that-- i could easily make a pirate shirt of a moderate or large size....i can make one in about 2 hours-- yah all are worth that......... let me know what you think... lady constance
  13. tartan jack-- there is no need to chill!! excitement is a very good thing!! never let anyone steal your joy and happiness about anything you are passionate about!! my only regret is that i had to leave your talking to make my kids behave!!--sorry about that!! and i soooooooooooo agree-- it was worth the drive !!! see you around here and at the sancta maria event!!! :) lady constance
  14. Micheal--i sure hope i dont offend, but i think this was better than PIP because people actually came to the event encampment.. and learned and enjoyed! there was tremendous interaction between those putting it on and those who came to look around... edutainment is what i can call it for lack of a better adjective!! suffice it to say, that if someone wants my opinion on PIP, they can ask for it--i aint gonna just give it away for those who dont want it..... i want events that affect the lives and thinking of the people who give it and those who come-- THIS EVENT DEFINITELY DID BOTH.... AND WE HAD AN AWESOMETIME DOING IT!!! i love that i met new people, lovely people..good souls that affect my family and our lives....our thinking and doing for this very reason i shall continue to attend close events ... and let me say it-- marc, jenny, dan, mark,jess,micheal,tartan,nate,jen-- YOU ARE THE REASONS!!!--and if youall are going somewhere far away-- you could talk me into it simply by your attending!!! simply said--i cannot speak highky enough of this event!! { did i make myself clear?? sure hope so!!! ladyconstance
  15. oh yah-- this was quite the event--- i counted at least 35 tents...150 participating pirates, and every tent/ demo was looked thru and asked questions..... the encampment was THE place to be!!! during the battles, the entire beach crowd stopped and watched!! then had to come see what it was all about!! it feels like i met half the people on the pub!!! and i told a few about it too.... after hours, just about everyone hung out at the pub!!! Nate--- darling you did awesome!! for sure we will be there next year!! [and thanks for the best camp spot ever!! by the bar!-uh--i mean the pub] cant rave enough how much fun it was!! lady constance
  16. post pictures-- you know the saying " yah , seeing is beleiving!"
  17. i cannot for the life of me, figure out how to post any picture anywhere here!! but i have no doubt that MANY types and lengths of jackets existed.... we have only to look at period art and artists...... and there are volumes of them!! what survived from that era--not much from the common man and womans life..... but think of human nature which has changed very little down thru the millenia, if it has changed at all!! get a book on a period artists from the ages you desire to fabricate jackets from..... peruse the pictures.. take your clues from art that was depicting life back then.......and have fun at the machine!!
  18. Lady Bower, :) check out any of wettaugh{google the artists and his work} { the spelling is all wrong i am sure!!}........ he absolutely loved painting the backs of womens dresses......his painting are from before and in the time of the GoAP....... there is painting called " the compromising proposal".... there are 2 women--the woman sitting on the left-- she is in a SHORT jacket , like the jumps being spoken of......the painting is dated 1714, i beleive......... and i have made such a short jacket/ coat...... as far as i can gather, if artists were rendering paintings beholding items of the day, more than likely they were seen quite often.. if the rich wore them , eventually they filtered down to the poor/ common people... who probably made them out of lesser quality fabrics........ gonna see if i can upload my pic....
  19. DINNER AT GUNNERS!! then we move to DINNER AT HALF SHELLS!! i think i am just goingot do this in the oven here for dinner soon! yah all got me drooling!! and thanks for the recipes!!
  20. yah--- with the freeloaders here, we could brew 400 gallons a year tax free! i STILL have one 2 liter bottle of plum wine i made last year down in my extra fridge...... maybe i ought to bring it to paynetown...... and put it in bread.........{ i aint drinking it!!} and bad lady that i am, i let my plums ROT on the trees this year.........umm i mean i let the bugs and birds eat them........darn japanese beetles!! oh ow i love hitting them with the propane torch!! POOF! they 'splode! but i do have truck load of pears growing.. i dont know a single bug that can even get thru pear skin to taste it!
  21. Callenish, so grateful that you walk the planet and the same time as i... the world is a better place, and we all have more joy and happiness because of you and yours........ may you be blessed with many more glorious years on the beautiful world!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  22. Mission-- your corpus collosum is definitely increasing in size-- as evidenced by your ability to shift topics in one fell swoop...lightneing strikes on one side of your brain travel swiftly to the other side!! personally, i like watching your mind meandering all over to nether regions of your intellect... knowingly or not, you are into meta physics........ lady constance
  23. mission--- BL's chronic-claws { pun just for you} are fabulous!! and grace shall be shown and read them tomorrow -- raphael mission.. doest thou knowest what combining rapheal and mission together semantically equates to? tell me, do you know what raphael is the angel of ? { i do!!} i suppose, perhaps, that you have not considered what each means ?and the combination?? ahh the sublime suprise of words contrued together that seem to mean nothing, but speak volumes! the mystery of it all......the great mystery that we cannot know what we actually mean adn do to those around us,,,,,,, now as to make this not so sappy ... i must say that i have NO idea what this shall mean and cause grace to do or to muse upon.......and if i must intruct on POC baby lion wardrobes,accoutrements and coordinated outfits..... i shall not find this so enchanting.... just remember that YOU, Raphael Mission , started this..and she will want to know if your name has changed and why--so perhaps begin thinking how you shall answer......... 9 year olds can come up with some doozies........ i shall concoct some story about some angelic being touching you while you slept....{ i will leave out the dead fish guts part}
  24. Nathan, i am also interested in the materail--- and i am also coming to paynestown in a few weeks..... more than likley micheal and i will fight over it!! { that might be interesting see how we defer to one anothes preferences} Lady constance
