  1. I have seen a post about this before, but I can't find it anymore O_o I've not got the book, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for it when I'm in Borders. I just hope they still have a lot of pirate books in when I get there because I won't be in London 'till AFTER the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows craze has started X_x
  2. I want to get the scallywag! I shall have to save up money for that one :) It'll be far cooler and better quality then the tricorn I got in Venice a couple of years ago ><
  3. Can I just add my website in the comments? I do custom pirate garb, both fantasy and historical :) http://users.telenet.be/houseofsecretsinco...d/costuming.htm This post is absolutely BRILLIANT Patrick, thanks for making it!
  4. I emailed back and forth with them and got replies within 24 - 48 hours (and I suspect the wait had more to do with different time zones than anything else), they were extremely helpful and gove out very good clear information. I'm saving up money to get a custom pair of Sparrow or Turner boots from them. They're both equally expensive so I'll decide which model I want when I have the money
  5. Why is European wool cheaper in the US than in the actual _Europe_?! I paid € 35 per meter for my wool last year. Which was admittedly thick and lush and it had pretty felted swirls in it and it was worth every cent. Although I wouldn't have objected if it had been cheaper!
  6. I'm far from obsessed by historical details. I just add historical elements to my outfit, but it's definitely very fantasy :)
  7. I recall there being a picture of Johnny Depp wearing that costume on the Costumer's Guide to Movie Costumes, but it seems to have been taken down. I was told that it was made for a costume design competition, but that it was not going to be in the movie a couple of months before AWE was released.
  8. AWE is still around in all Belgian theatre's but that's no surprise seeing we get most of the new movies later than the US.
  9. Welcome to the pub, I'm sure someone will take your challenge soon!
  10. I did seriously consider a custom pair from caboots, but with some help of Red Handed Jill I've decided to do what Jack did and customise musketeer boots. I just like the look of theirs better, even though caboots are mighty cool :) I'll post pictures when I get them, they're on their way to me :) EDIT: they actually arrived now, but I've taken them to the cobblers to have some adjustments done. My dad is picking them up next Friday (I'll be on holiday then) so hopefully I can have pictures taken first week of August :)
  11. Both! Although I've not gotten a sword yet so for now it's just the guns
  12. Greetings Iron Jim, welcome to the pub :)
  13. Welcome to the pub BriarRose :) Hope you have a great time :)
  14. Have you tried Reconstructing History yet? If they don't carry your size you should send Kass an email and ask her if she can sort one out for you. She's absolutely fantastic, and so are her patterns, so it's well worth looking into that option :)
  15. My summer frock coat :) Slightly oversized and with extra long sleeves, because I like my summer coats loose and comfy and my sleeves _long_. It's made out of linen, lined with black cotton. It closes with black leather buttons and the same buttons, together with satin ribbon and russian braid have been used for detailing :) The side seams have been left open to create a folding split effect, and the back has a split too :)
  16. Oh wow those are really cool! Any pics of you wearing them so we can see the complete trousers also?
  17. I'm sorry to have to say this, but if you're going for historical accuracy then you're using the wrong pattern. The Simplicity one is a costume pattern, and it's not even an accurate PotC pattern (the coats in that movie are made entirely differently then a coat from that pattern). Godets (gussets) weren't used during the GAoP, they came into fashion later. If you want a real historically accurate pattern, then I can heartily recommend the Reconstructing History ones. They're more expensive than the Simplicity ones, but they're SO much better (and ALL sizes come in one package printed on real paper instead of that flimsy crap Simplicity etc use ^^). I have 3 of them and I love them all to death :) If you decide to do fantasy pirate after all, you can just adjust them to suit your needs, that's what I did :) I used the Simplicity pattern (I do own it) to make a waistcoat for my brother Scott and a frock coat for my brother Timothy for their LARP characters (they didn't need accurate and specifically wanted this kind of thing) but I didn't particulary like working with them. For my own fantasy pirate costume I adjusted RH patterns and I vastly prefered that over working with the Simplicity pattern. The fit and model of the garments are much better looking. Anyway: these are coats I've made with modified RH patterns: It's a little big on me, but that was done on purpose because I like my summer coats loose :)
  18. Back in 2005 a friend of mine was studying photography and had access to his school studio. He was working on his portfolio, and I needed a portret photo for mine, so we did a photoshoot. My avatar is taken from one of those photos. I don't have any of them online I'm afraid, one of them is with my designer bio in my portfolio though :)
  19. *heaves her pint in greeting* Welcome Captain.
