  1. I thought that Patick WAS the guy from California?
  2. Point taken Hawkyns. I fall more into the family friendly but want to be somewhat realistic. With this in mind I think I should make the Hide a upper working class establishment. What I need to find out is what were the norms of the day. I want to have whores there but they have to keep it PG 13. Same with the drunks and thieves. The drunks would need to filter foul language and thieves can steal, although I would drunks to drink no alcohol when there is public about and I like my thieves to set up the thievery in advance and return whatever is stolen so they can steal it the next day. lol
  3. Red Dawn, thanks for asking. I have a related question of my own. How would a proprietor of a working class inn/tavern/ordinary/public house look upon these things? I would think whores were common, in fact desirable. I would also think there would be a distinction between a courtesan and a cheap whore and which would be permitted to do business at ones establishment. Can anyone suggest research material to help develop the history and behavior of the proprietress of "The Sealchie's Hide"?
  4. True Will but they do make getting to the girls a little complicated.
  5. I have embroidered pockets, I wear them on the outside. I also don't wear 2 petticoats, I am too warm most of the time anyway and no one else would be counting them. I will wear them 2nd petticoat at a judged event but it may not be the same color. The stays can be worn inside or out. If they are too short and stick out you may be better wearing them on the inside. I like the color of my stays to show more so I wear them on the outside. If someone had an embroidered stomacher they may want to wear them on the outside so that all the embroidery shows, I don't know if that means that the stays would also have to be on the outside. I don't wear a fichu. As I said I am usually too warm as it is, the less fabric the better. I do wear a mantua so maybe that is why I don't wear a fichu. lol
  6. lol, Yes, I mean no ...I mean yes it would be warm and no I don't really want one, I was joking, hence the . I have to set a price on the velvet and sell it ...or barter, I have a lead on someone who may want it. It is "on the list".
  7. I can see both John. Now to call my tailor, but I think I shall use silver thread on my green velvet.
  8. Mister Cross, What need have you of a kitchen box you have only one setting for yourself.
  9. Thanks Grymm. Now, can anyone tell me what the painting is about ...what is happening ...who we are looking at? lol
  10. There are several images there Jen, which are you referring to?
  11. Being an older working woman who may have had children I am going to have to make myself a set of jumps ...or 3.
  12. Jen, Seems to me that artistic license is used here. That said I also think there ARE many taboos here that I can't explaine. As to the lady on the platform she is clearly an "above average" woman, she has a double chin. It does seem to be some celebration. I don't think the entire painting is shown here I can think of few paintings where characters are cut as they are here. ...then again perhaps not. and it is a wedding. "Troost Cornelis The Wedding Of Kloris And Roosje" I suggest that the taboos explored are a commentary of the times or perhaps something the artist was known for. It has been YEARS since I took art history and I have forgotten most of what I was to have learned. An artist would sell his work to the rich so the artist would have to appeal to the rich. To understand the painting one must explore the artist, the social structure, political happenings of the day as well as the style of the artist.
  13. my new hand warmers are made from my old stockings.

  20. I would very much like to move or remove the Facebook Like/Unlike link on the upper right hand of the home page. I would rather see "Recent Topics Added" followed by "Recent Status Updates". i tried clicking on the x to remove it but that x closes all of the right side bar. I tried clicking on "Like" to get rid of it but the FB like is STILL there. Any idea how to remove/move it? Why isn't there a minus side to shrink that part of the right side bar like there is for the other ones over there.
