'Corsairs of St. Malo' - Archaeology special

Foxe, Thanks for the book reference, mate! I don't doubt your word. A lot of people passed through. Jaques Gouin de Beauchesne discovered an island, as in ths passage from Falklland Islands History In 1701 Frenchman Jacques Gouin de Beauchesne discovered and named Beauchene Island, the most southerly island in the Falklands archipelago. The name 'Falkland's Land' was given to the whole archipelago in 1708 by Captain Woode Rogers, an English privateer who was later made Governor of Jamaica. Rogers sailed round the Islands in his two ships 'The Duke of Bristol' and 'The Duchess of Bristol' but owing to the wind he was unable to land. -

Thanks, Rhumba!....I posted this silliness just so I can see the some o'those gif animations...and naturally you come up with the best. atually, you missed all the fun. I had redacted some of the existing post before you saw it. I have been doing a bit of research on the St. Malo pirates. St. Malo is a seaport on the French side of the English channel. I am most interested in one individual who was a privateer by the name of Beauchesne (1652-1730) who discovered the Falkland Islands....a name that makes me cringe when telemarketers try to pronounce it St Malo Pirates & Privateers (in french)' Most of my family comes from that region, so....I was 'hoping' that maybe I have some real "pirate" blood in me. Oh well. Any of you fans of the movie Master &Commander, I'm on the Acheron side....so now you have a reason to hate me. -
Oh, a Mac guy, eh? (just joking...of course)

The trick is to just hum along in half a lower key, and you will be all set.

Is that a good thing to say if you live in California? I guess NorCal is not so dry.

I'm gonna guess, and be real wrong and say this was something Corey Haim said to Jason Patric in "Lost Boys"

Baked cod & broccoli. I just throw bread crumbs &olive oil on the fish and stick it in the oven. Now....I'm off to the remaining lefotover Halloween candy. The gummi body parts are my favorite!

TNT station....They are broadcasting the movie down here too. I have an early busy day tomorrow, so I'd rather watch Dorothy walk down that Yellow Brick Road now and catch a night of sleep.

HAL from 2001...as Mission suggests. But me own guess it would be from 'Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy'.

Hmm...where have I heard that before? Oh, btw, Briar....very cute halloween picture of your son on the random photos thread.

hmmm... Streetcar named Desire, I think... Yep, double ration of rum for you Dorian....I guess I'm that unoriginal with these lines.

The minute I signed off this board I was fortunate to catch a new TV episode of Globetrekker "Galleons, Pirates, & Treasure" on Channel 21 WLIW here in NY/NJ. They did a whole special on Port Royal Jamaica, Rum bars, Ann Bonny's/Mary Read's jail cell, the island where Jack Rackam was hanged, various shipwrecks, Key West & some reenactors (though no mention of PIP, those weevils), Blackeard, etc. pretty good, and they are selling a $19.95 dvd of the episode Globtrekker: Galleons, Pirates & Treasure....though the wesite only said "tbd" of this episode ( I guess it's because it's recent). Nice to see all that aqua colored water in Key West. The following episode on now is aout diving in the Caicos....kind of got me in the mood of typing this.

Mission, I know that movie too well. Dr. Strangelove (or How I learned to Love The Bomb). I think the most unforgettable and funniest scene is towards the end where Dr Srangelove (a.k.a. Muerkverdeglieben, or something like that) is attacked by his own hand since he suffers from a real medical malady called "alien hand syndrome". Moving on: " We have here in Louisiana what's known as the Napoleonic code"

Sound like a movie that has "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here....this is the war room!"

Ya know...I worry more aout re-entering the United States. I have found US Customs agents to be the surliest bunch of people ever. ...compared to other countries. If anyone has had less than favorable experiences with US Customs, I'd be curious to hear your story.
