Marc, Do you make your own items.... I saw this the other day on the net and thought it would be cool for some metalsmith or jewelrysmith to make a replica the Mermaid Corkscrew seen here

I called Mountain Trading, and they will be shipping my hat blanks out soon, their computer went down on them. Michael, I did read the post "How to Cock at Hat", but would like more information than is there in detail on steaming and pressing.
-
Yes exactly, it's not too often we can wear our heavy frock coats, seems like that night was perfect for it. I hope they have more events, I would def go!

Is there another website with more information. The adobe pic won't come up for me...grrrrr work puter!
-
ha ha ha...what cracks me up is faire goer's that go with commercial pirate prints and make bodice's and such...yelch...but that's just for the patrons...those who have been dedicated faire goers or reenactors strive to look more authentic (or have to be or their guild will cut their head off..lol). But those hello kitty skull and crossbones on a cincher makes me cringe....Yick!

Did you want to know where to get/buy pants/slops/trousers or how to make em yerself?
-
Well I am sure the ladies wouldn't mind for a bit, but the sailors would detest it..he he he! Anywho's..I made a pair recently for me beau...believe it or not I took a simple pattern for harem pants and made them from that EXTREMELY simple pattern. I made gathers for the waist and for legs so they can be tied right below the knee (he wears simple shoes and no socks)...but since you are going to tuck them in you don't need to do the gathering hem there or the cord, just a simple hem even if you want it. Here is one website with instructions there are many out there to choose from. But as you can see they look pretty darn similiar to slops. Just use a heavier material more condusive to pyratin' Pattern

Okay...help. I have a couple of felt hat blanks on order from Mountain Trading (and I am getting kinda ticked cause I have not received nor had any shipping info...anyone bought from them?)... Anyway would like to have some information to get started when I get them. Anyone have any good steps or websites?

You know that just gave me another idea. I just bought a couple of Grolsch beers, the ones with the porcelain tops. That would be cool to remove the label and then make it either some Pirate rum, Pirate olive oil, or Pirate hot sauce...hmmmmmmmm. Oh yes mod podge...I made a tea tray with Vintage rose scrap papper and covered it with that.

No problem, was just wondering, now it makes sense!!!! Good luck on yer treasure hunt of finding things! The other day I had a search on tricorns..and the cutest vintage from the 1800's or so a tricorn pin holder (it seemed just for straight pins) and it folded flat but could fold out into a tricorn. (the pins were kept in the center of the hat)..was the cutest thing. If I find that pic I will post it here.

I found this on NGQ website for events. I hate to have set this under Raids since it is a wake. I have seen Kapt Kula's band last year on the Belmont shores Pier and enjoyed them immensely. January 26, 2008: Barnacle Bart's Pirate Pub Wake Long Beach, CALIFORNIA 9:00pm - Midnight. Barnacle Bart aka Private Hell, real name: STEVE BARTEL, sailed away to Fiddler's Green Saturday January 5, 2008. His passing saddens many that knew him, but all that did are happy he was with us, though we wish we could have had more time together. Steve was a real Renaissance man, graphic artist, writer, musician, actor, comedian. He was a member of the Fool's Guild, performed as a drummer/percussionist with the American Civil War era musical troupe, The Band Of The California Battalion and was the official drummer/percussionist with Kapt. Kula's Pyrat Party Band. The KKPP Band will miss him dearly and want to honor him by declaring their next gig (one that Steve was scheduled to play on) his wake. There are other memorials planned as well, but I don't think all of Steve's friends could fit in one room. Come share your memories, photos etcetera of Steve with us. Dress as a pirate and toast our comrade and friend Barnacle Bart with his favorite, Sailor Jerry's Rum. This gathering will be at our home port pub, the Pike Restaurant & Bar, 1836 E. 4th St (one block west of Cherry Ave) Long Beach, CA 90802 (562) 437-4453 Limited Parking Arrive Early. Fine Food, Full Bar, RUM! 21+ Cover $7. Contact person: Ray Kula (562) 438-8514 raykula@juno.com

Michael, what do you want all these things for, I mean to carry all this unnecessary stuff around for reenactment is kind of strange. Do you want these items for the house or when you go to reactments or faires? I am surprised not more women have answered this posting. Wenches are usually from the lower class working ranks like barmaids. I am sure more pirates were with barmaids than upper class women, unless they had plenty of money and were a handsome rogue. A couple of things women had that I know you can add to her wardrobe for practical use is a small hand mirror and some kind of cologne scented handkerchief or pomander, due to the streets smelled so. This website had a really cool listing to go through Glosarry of 18th century

I have ordered a couple of hat blanks from Mountain Trading...(have not got them yet). Does anyone know a really good website for steaming and pressing? I was looking around the other day and could not find any good directions.

You had me curious about this, after about 1 minute of search I found this link, this lady sports a pic on her website of a Barbossa outfit that looks pretty darn close even to the waistcoat...Perhaps you can contact her and ask her where she got it, or if she has more to sell you.... Hi Patrick, Thanks for the feedback, could not get in here for a couple of days, password fried or something. I actually found a website that sells a 2nd quality blank for 15.00 and another website with a blank for 17.50. I think I will get a couple. MountainTrading and I found a website that had cool directions on making a leather Cap Jack Sparrow hat. Website with directions for Capt Jack Sparrow hat instructions

Me beau wants a hat now instead of wearing a head scarf. My own hat is fashioned using an old bolero style hat that came out in the 80's it's heavy and has a brim that had wiring in it so I could shape it into a tricorn and I sewed black maribou about it and added a velvet casing that holds a plethora of feathers (which I have now epoxy'd them all into due I was tired of them coming out from just stitching through the) I then placed a cool brooch on that and then another brooch towards the front. But I would like to make a couple from scratch as well. What is better the blanks from Faire or Jas?

That's really a cute idea and especially a good gift idea. I saw on a website for pirate themed items, Pirate Hot Sauce. I was thinking about making my own label on Powerpoint and replacing the Hot Sauce label in the fridge.....
