A lucky man is alive today after a rescue at sea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Chilean trawler rescues U.S. sailor By ROBERTO CANDIA, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 3 minutes ago PUNTA ARENAS, Chile - An American trying to sail around the world alone was rescued early Friday after drifting three days on his disabled yacht in treacherous seas off the southern tip of South America. Ken Barnes was picked up shortly before 6 a.m. EST by the trawler Polar Pesca 1, the Chilean navy's Operations Department reported in Punta Arenas. Barnes, 47, was in good condition, said an officer who asked not to be identified in line with the department's rules. Two h…

Today is day 6, post-op for me. Put the crutches away on Saturday and been doing fine without them. So far today, I've not had to have any pain meds and knee is looking more "normal." I've two incisions, each about 1/4 inch in length and with 2 sutures in them. Still have a bit of a listing to port limp but, it is fading as the days pass. Due to the cartilage (meniscus) being folded double onto itself, doc had to take out more cartilage than he originally planned. That hasn't seemed to be a bother to the knee so far. Best thing is, I can bend my knee and stand on m' leg without it giving out or popping like a handgun and leaving me lying on the floor! I go bac…

I write for my own amusement. Usually in my head while I'm driving to work. It's monotonous, so I let my mind wander , then jot it down shorthand and work on it when I get home. I was trying to organize my files, and came across a small piece I wrote some time ago. It's not that much, I've written better, but it was unattached to anything else so Thought I'd share - PS other than a small character bio, I have never put my stuff in "public" Though I am 42 chapters into a pirate book I have been working on for some time--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Destiny The man realized he had signed his own warrant as the words escaped…

I have been getting loads of these wife swap re-enactor spam mails.... Has anyone else? That is about the last thing I would do (or recommend) to any re-enactor. They always try to make you look like an ass h*le anyway. And for some re-enactors, that is not too hard. I think the con outweighs the pro..... Greg

A PIRATE’S CHRISTMAS By Capt. Rob Temple ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the ship The pirates were stirring rum punch for a nip The guns were run out to their maximum clearance Just in case ye old navy should make an appearance The lookout was passed out cold on the deck Dreaming of a hangman’s noose round his neck Blackbeard in his hat and I in my bandanna Had just settled down to smoke a Havanna When out on the sea there arose such commotion We knew there was something out there on the ocean Away to the railing I flew like a flash And leaning far over I threw up the hash And Blackbeard was laughing and bellowed out, “Aahhrr You always get…

Ahoy all ya folks! I just joined this online community last week and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kenneth, and I currently reside in the Boston, Massachusetts area. I have long been quite intrigued by pirates and many things associated with them giving that they lead a daring, do-it-yourself, independent lifestyle with loads of eccentricties and free-thinking. This fascination of mine likely began when I was a kid experiencing the Pirates of the Carribean attraction at Walt Disney World in Florida. I now certainlty love to attend events, activities, and quests related to the pirate theme, and hope that I can recruite mates through these forums that wouldn't…

Just had to share this. I was driving to Illinois this morning and just happened to come up behind a big black truck with Wisconsin plates that read PIRATE. How cool is that??? Another pirate on the same road as me at the same time. Any body else have a personalized license plate?

I love contests... and prizes. I was thinking about doing a "pirate of the year 2006" contest. This would be as an award/prize/recognition of the Pirate that has done an exceptional job of promoting, participating, and general good will in the realm of historical or fantasy piracy over the last year. Its not a popularity contest or anything, but I thought it might be cool to do. I have a rather extensive prize closet, and maybe we could do an "interview" an push to have it published in one of the Pirate Magazines that are afloat these days. Anyone else think its worthwhile? It would be hard to choose, as there are a lot of folks here that are really outstanding and d…

Ship's log 1 2 3 4

I presume someone else has thought of this before, but I have been mulling this idea around for a while and am going to give it a try. I am making a personal ship's log. I picked up some VERY discounted leather-bound journals at the local book store (during an unsuccessful attempt to locate an issue of Pirates magazine). While a ledger-sized journal would be more authentic, it would be impractical to carry around. Big deal, right? Wait... hear me out... I am not making a fictionalized authentic looking artifact with coordinates, wind conditions, soundings, etc. Maybe, someday... Instead, my Log will consist of chronological entries entailing every pirate-related …

Ahoy all! Elizabeth here for those who wish to know real names, or Sickleback for those who like t'keep things simple. So why have I joined a pirate forum? Well that's easy! Pirates are love. Ever since I was a little nipper diving into my Dads toolbox to try and find something worthy of the term 'cutlass' I found pirates fascinating. And so that sort of crazy love has now passed to today, where I find myself dressing as a midshipman (or on occasion Captain) for Halloween and buying a pirate skeleton hoodie. Mucho love. I'm also looking into re-enacting lately but so far finding something in the UK to the time era isn't coming up too succesful So I found this pla…

Greetins' mates, I be Nathaniel Warden but me crew call me Blackwarden or Late Nate (damn those Frenchies). I hail from the island of Nevis, but me father sent me to Carolina to oversee his plantation there. Alas, I failed in his wishes and fled his wrath, took up with a scurvy lot, and gone on the account. **Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Scott and I've been a lurker for a long time and only recently registered on the forums. I'm a boat captain & dive instructor in real life, and lover of all things nautical, especially pyrates. I've been putting this off for a long time and I'm so glad to finally be able to post. I have been pondering about the past. The kind of ponderings that can only come from the emptiness of the open sea. I am wondering just how many times one can give away his heart. I have been having disturbing dreams that have been reminding me of someone of my past. I has gotten to the point of interfering with my present. What is one to do? I am seeking the wisdom of the ages. Any out there that is willing and able to help?
