  1. What kin I say 'bout me fellow pirate? Can't shut her up! Now jest looky at all these posts she's made! Arrrggghhhh, jeesh, woman do ye ever stop? Now mind ye, ye gots a nice way o' presentin' yerself, then ye keel 'em over with a 'merry death' dance on them. Aye poor Scupper, he's in fer a whirlwind o' a death with ye.

So with that, I doff me hat to ye with a hearty laugh and say, "You go girl!" B)

  3. Nice shelf. Need more treasures!

I on the other hand have a whole apartment full of treasures that certianly won't fit on any shelf. :)

(I swear if one more person gives me another mug they've found at a thrift store I'm gonna bang them over the head with it! I've got so many friggin' mugs....I just throw them in my treasure chest for decor at events)

  4. Great outfit! You fits it well! Ye be lookin' mighty fine ta me!

Ye don't need ta tell me how hot wool clothin' can get - in 90 and up degree weather I've sweated so bad , me whole Irish dress was soaked!

Come ta think o' it, most o' the stuff I wear ta events, I sweat in. I'm an easy sweater...

  5. Don't know about Hennessey's, but the Harbor House Cafe on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) is terrific! LOTS of food for a very reasonable prices.

Eaten there many o' time with other PRP'rs when doing events at Dana Point.

Hope ta see some o' you fine pirates at Tall Ships.

  6. I went last year. It's ok, but shade is very lacking. A hot day it t'was.

That faire is extremely strict on the participants who work that faire - strictly Renaissance and nothing else. They won't even allow a pirate group to participate unless one is willing to conform to their rules i.e. must be Renaissance costumes, must be Renaissance look to encampment, and the list goes on. I know, because I checked into it for PRP and was given a flat no.

There were some merchants that I hadn't seen elsewhere, but the prices were above the sky limit!

Will I go again? Probably not, costs too much for everything.

  7. Thank you Hawkins. Yes I've made costumes in the past for people, usually just bodices and skirts. Nowadays I just tell people to go buy stuff ready made, cuz the time and work involved costs more than ready made.

    Akasha,

The coat is my first excursion into doing really, really difficult sewing. In fact I had a hell of time understanding the pattern. The use of interfacings drove me nuts! In fact the cuffs came out too poofy cuz I didn't understand the way the pattern called fo use of interfacings. Also, I didn't realize how tight the arms were going to be either. I don't do patterns well.

I've got material cut out for another frockcoat which will not be as fancy and more to what is expected. And trust me I have learned from my mistakes on the first one, which gives me more mistakes to make on the next.

  8. I appreciate all the great comments. I have to admit I was a bit shy about showing this off, as I know some here are 'strict-to-the-code' of historical accuracy and thought I would be... well not well recieved.

I've been asked if I would ever consider selling the coat- no, not at this time anyway. I'll consider it after I've entered it in the San Diego Fair next year.

  9. Well it took me MONTHS and MONTHS to finsh this coat. Please note, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL COSTUMER!!

Also, don't expect "Period coat". This was made more for the costume contests that I tend to enter in here and there.

As soon as possible, I'll put the whole outfit on, and have some pictures ready to show, just as soon as I can pin down me companion to take them.

Course nowadays there are some that like that kind o' look, I'm jest not one o' them.

  11. Ah, I t'was birthed in St. Louis, MO., then wound up livin' a chunk o' me life on Long Beach, Calif. Then traveled around various areas o' Orange County(Stanton, Anahiem, Westminster, Anahiem(again), Fullerton, Anahiem(again), Fullerton(again). Then I t'was moved up ta Tujunga (San Fernando Valley-Los Angeles), then ta Sunland, and finally made me way down ta the San Diego area o' Escondido where I've been fer the last 7 years.

One could say I've traveled the seas o' dry land.
