  1. I'll be interested in this... depending on how early we'll be back to Sausalito (earlier bein' better). Just how early IS "early morn"?
  2. I usually use pictures o' the Royaliste. I also changed my XP "Welcome screen" to a piratey-theme, and the XP boot screen to "Windows XP: Blackbeard edition". I haven't gotten quite so far on the Linux side, just a Royaliste backdrop. If anyone's interested, I could make a pyracy.com background (after me week-long vacation, starting tonight!)
  3. Redd... If I remember correct-like, it's a mixture of blackpowder and water that ye soak yer cotton cord in. Then you let it dry. This confirms what I thought: Making Slow Match
  4. Arr... blasted humor... ne'er did get the hang o' it... *muttering*off t' go keelhaul someone... maybe I'll steal his ship after all...
  5. Relax, Cap'n. We're not tryin' to steal yer ship, just give someone a look at it.
  6. How detailed do you need in the way of plans? If lots o' photographs and some measurements would work... there's always the Royaliste!!!
  7. It be on the 3rd that I be talkin about! On th' fourth, we'll be long gone, plunderin' the north coast!
  8. Oh, and since we're talking San Mateo and Redwood City (13 minutes apart), we thought we'd stop by for a few minutes after the ball. It'd be about midnight. Will the dock be open just to show my guest the Mighty RR?
  9. Oh, the grenadoe would be awesome! Whilst at Redd's office today, just before I got the frock out of there , it occured to me that if ye fellow brethren are devoid o' activities on the night o' the 3rd, ye might enjoy the Liberty Ball in San Mateo. Pirate costumes would work time-wise, and it'll be loads o' fun. From their website: Dance to the most glorious dance tunes of 1776 played by the Bay Area's premiere country dance band, Bangers & Mash, with dances ranging from dashing English and American country dances to elegant Cotillions and some slightly anachronistic but gorgeous late 18th century waltzes (As usual, all set and country dances will be taught or called). For those of you wishing to learn or brush up on your 18th century country dancing, there will be a pre-ball dance class at 7:00 p.m. - highly recommended for those new to this dance form. Suggested costume is mid to late 18th century American, English, or French costume (any class! This is a democratic assembly!). Red, white and blue trim will be admired, not required. This is definitely a photo-op event since some of the most gorgeous historical costumes seen outside a Merchant Ivory film are likely to be seen at the ball. For those not equipped with 18th century costume, your Ren Faire garb (especially peasant and middle class) has the right silhouette, and Regency costume or modern evening dress is also perfectly acceptable. At intermission there will be 18th century dance demos and some open dancing for the die-hard dancers. In keeping with the festive nature of the event, we will also have a no host (cash) bar and a light snack buffet. It's $20 at the door. A bit pricey, but totally worth it. These things are loads o' fun.
  10. Arrr... me hair is long and gettin' longer. And all cause a little pirate lassie told me she likes it that way. That, and cause I'm lazy!
  11. Thar be some good flame-retardant stuff that is used in theatre. Smells bad at first, but after it dries it's not noticable.
  12. 3rd in Dance??? WOW! I wanna know who this group that won all o' the catagories is! Holy barnacles... I didn't think we had a *chance* with the other amazing floats that were around!
  13. I think darkthing was asking after wigs... here ye be, mate. 18th Century Wigs
  14. I got a data cable for my phone. $14.99 from CompUSA on sale. YoHo is my main ring, Drunken Sailor for "restricted numbers" and Hornpipe for the no caller ID folks. I'm looking into getting a bosun's call for a new text message. The cable also lets me use my phone as a modem should my computer ever need it.
  15. Wow... Redd, that'll be awesome! Can't wait t' see it!
  16. Tax preparers (especially corporate ones). They help the rich avoid paying money to the government, and in exchange, get a portion of that money.
  17. Oh... I almost forgot... the mast is done... tapered at the end per the blueprints and sanded while turning to 400 grit. Smooth as glass... there'll be pictures shortly. Probably up after the gaff and boom get finished. I *just* finished laminating, so I'll give it tomorrow to dry and probably start turning again on Monday night.
  18. Ahoy again! Today, the wood for the gaff and the boom was procured. Lamination is happening right now, and turning might start tomorrow night (after a day of glue curing). Once again, it's clear douglas fir, kiln-dried and hand-picked for straightness and clarity. Don't want to have any voids in the wood or any pitch pockets. Not only does it detract from the attractiveness of the finish product, it provides a point of failure.
  19. Arrr.... all o' ye in CA be havin' no excuse not t' make it. Me lass and meself already are plannin' on the 13 hour drive from New Mexico to make it to Ojai. Hopefully it all works out, I can't wait!
  20. Nine months out o' the year (or thereabouts), I make me home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The other three months or so are in the general vicinity o' the Bay o' St. Francis. Sailin' on th' Royaliste, buildin' things, hangin' about bein' a miscreant... it's a good life. Where in NM are ye, Iron?
  21. Lakes Folsom and Berryessa fer this little boat... She'd be swamped by a big swell in the bay.
  22. She ain't too expensive, mate. I certainly haven't won any lottery... I be a student!
  23. This here boat's a CA boat! Only in NM 9 months a year...
  24. As promised... pictures! First is the old trailer we're rebuilding. It's on its side here. Now for some mast pictures: First there were the three boards to laminate together. They're strengthened by biscuits, as seen below. After being glued and laminated, the mast was clamped to dry. Then, it was turned on the lathe. Here you can see the transition from square to round. Finally, this is the current state of mast affairs.
