Blackbead Books is proud to announce that one of our poets, Stephen Sanders, won an "Editor's Choice" Award at this year's Canis Latran Writing Competition at Weatherford College. The poem he took this honor with is "It's In Me Blood", an old pirate's reminiscence of a mate named "Ben Hawkins." "It's In Me Blood" was originally published in Echoes From Other Worlds. The Award included a certificate and publication in the annual Weatherford College anthology of poetry and fiction. The poem is also a part of the Brotherhood of the Gulf's stage show entitled "A Night at Devil's Tavern." For more information, and to purchase a copy of the book, catch up with Blackbead Bo…

Ahoy Mates, I've had several emails asking if this add in Goggle was legit. I am sure they are lookig for people they feel they can submit to casting however.... Please be awear that Talent agencys DO NOT cast films. Casting agents cast the films. Extras casting director is again Sandy Alessi. I not sure why anyone who is pursuing a role would bother with any other channel. Anyone who is a professional can access the offices of Alessi casting. I think there is extras casting starting in Hawaii next week; regular roles are nearly all cast, primarily via readings in London, as the actors are pretty much all European, as planned. Hope this is of come help m'love…

I recently flipped through the April 2010 edition of Food Network Magazine and boy, was I surprised to see Braze and Casacabel and even MA d'Dogge as part of an article! Oh, this grabbed my attention after laughing with gleeful amazement and childish stupor. Apparently, Dinner: Impossible cooked up a hell of a feast for those in Key West! Didn't someone on here mention they had a surprise fest? Anyways... I read the article and I am highly curious to see the outcome... and better yet, all m' pub mates on this show! This special showing of Dinner: Impossible is March 31st at 10PM (Not sure if that's Eastern or Pacific, so check yo'r local listings for the proper time…

How about a flying sailboat? It's solar-powered instead of steam-powered but this concept still seems appropriate. These airships are meant to compete in the World Sky Race. Come to think of it, the World Sky Race seems like a good place for some airship pirates. Mark

In the early nineties, I wrote a screenplay about Mary Read and sent it to Stephen Spielberg’s house in East Hampton. I received a very nice rejection letter from Amblin which I have kept as a memento to my chutzpah. I want to retire from teaching next year. While exploring possible career changes, the field that jumped out as number one was the performing arts, with an emphasis in writing. I want to re-work my screenplay into a stage play. Back in the early nineties, I was restricted to my local library as a source of information on Mary Read. I would be grateful to anyone who could suggest 21st century sources of knowledge that would help me write a accurate account o…

Avast, me hearties! It's been a long time since I've been back at the pub. But piracy has still been on my mind. In fact, today, I made a fan video for the movie 'Cutthroat Island', set to the gorgeous song "The Pirate's Gospel" by contemporary folksinger Alela Diane: Yo ho ho, Hester

Someone at the local paper found out that I do pirate re-enacting and they sent a cool reporter out to interview me. So I just spent an hour and a half with the guy talking about pirate re-enacting, the forum, Stynky, my Patrick Hand original hat and authentic Michael Bagley garb, Red Jessi, Stynky, Grace Thatcher, PiP, Stynky and, of course, Stynky. I even played him my phone message that Stynky left for me at PiP in 2007, which you can re-read here. I told him to quote it verbatim. ("That's Paul. P A U L. Sounds just like a-PALL-ing.") If it actually turns into an article, I'll be sure to post links to it so's you can all be nauseated by my self-aggrandizing. It's a…
