My friend David, the brains behind the Howard Pyle Festival, is part of a team working on a new festival for 2010, to be held at Fort Delaware State Park (location of two episodes of Ghost Hunters), and with any luck to include the Kalmar Nyckel. Here's the original message... As things take shape I'll post more. Yrs&c, Blackjohn

It's that time again for the annual fall Escondido Faire, where pirates mingle with Tudors. If you've never been to this event, it's great with lots of shady trees, big ale garden, a variety of vendors and acts on stages and of course Pirate Cove where all of us pirate people are. For more information go to: Escondido Faire So will you be there? I will!

Greetings! In the past year and a half since BACA 2007 the HMCA has traveled all over the globe. We have done workshops at ISMAC in Detroit, The Paddy Crean International Art of the Sword Workshop in Banff, Canada, as well as solo workshops in California, Pennsylvania, London, England, Edinburgh, Scotland and Wuppertal, Germany! It's been an incredibly busy 18 months! Instead of relaxing and taking some time off, we've decided to jump ahead with an awesome new workshop: BACANCUN! The venue for the classes is not set yet, but we will be staying at the View Mediterrando Hotel & Suites. Cost of the hotel rooms is roughly $65 USD/night for a double (or $37.50 per perso…

Is anyone planning on attending the PA Renn Faire's Pirate Invasion? I'm going to be the mermaid working at the Pirate's Den on the farside of the grounds. It's my first time being a paid entertainer/photo op so I'm alittle nervous but very excited. If you go, come say hi to me!

‘Twas a grand weekend for all who went down to Deltaville, VA this past weekend. Blackbeard’s Crew was kind enough to invite The Crewe of the Archangel to help entertained as well as educated the public who came out to enjoy the event. The day with filled with demonstrations of cooking, weaponry, clothing, crime and punishment, along with the well loved ‘school for the scallywags’. Not to mention a simulated cat fight with the one and only, Madame Grace. I’m taking pictures of the bruises…yes, I am proud of my battle scares! Pictures will be forthcoming! I personally would like to say, ‘thank-you’ to the Blackbeard’s Crew for the invite along with the most gracious …

For those of you who expressed an interest in the black powder rendezvous that I mentioned at Ojai: Like the title says, you spend the weekend immersing yourself in black powder. There are two camps: the primitive pre-1840 area (which we camp in) and the "tin tipi" area for more modern camps. They have a trail walk with targets as well as a shooting range. And for those of you who enjoy throwing sharp objects, a tomahawk/knife throwing area. And since this land is privately owned by a cannon enthusiast, we always bring wee Babbette to sound the wake-up call - although folks are pretty much up by then and yelling "WOO HOO!" after each cannon fire. Railroad Flats…

On Saturday, October 13th we shall be celebrating the 15th Annual Baconfest since its inception. Baconfest was first begun as the brainchild of Ty Coleman who was forced to listen to me and my friend Jonas as we expounded on the beauty and divinity of all things Bacon. We Wetlanders, a medieval reenactment club, mutually agreed that we would have a Baconfest that year and every year thereafter. The small culinary festival has been running now these 15 years and we have consumed considerable quantities of the salty stuff, braving clogged arteries and a shortened life span to celebrate the fruit of the Pig. Over the years the Wetlanders of Baconfest have often wondered …

There's one scheduled for October 5th through the 7th at the same location as before - Railroad Flats, which is northeast of Stockton (kinda in-between Stockton and Sacramento.) A few more folks will be joining us and it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of the knife Patt made for me. Come to Hillsboro, Texas the first two weekends in October and head west on Highway 171. Five miles outside of town, you'll come to Middlefaire where you can stroll the village streets (make sure you wander down Rumpot Alley and come see ol' Blackbead!) and enjoy a wonderful Renaissance weekend! This neat little faire (voted #2 in "The Best New Renaissance Festival" category of the Podcast Renaissance Festival Awards) is more than ready for its second year. There are more than a dozen permanent structures in place and enough enterainment, vendors and food to keep you busy all weekend long! Come out and see me pirate fort complete with two full-size replicas of six pou…
