Capt. Sterling
Are you sure, Captain. 'Tis the only one I took a picture of...'member? LMAO! See the thin line bottom right that's cut off in the picture? That is the captain's sea chest... not to worry I know who to contact and I can sketch it easy enough... as it was very simple.... If I can get Craig or Andy to make one in time, it would be cool to bring along... and folks could sit on it... michaelsbagley
I've been wanting to go to the Re-enactor fest as well.... And until today, I have had serious doubts about my ability to attend... But fortunately as of today my odds of being able to attend have increased dramatically. The fact that it happens over the weekend closest to my birthday is also working in my favour. I hope to meet some of you there, although I beg your forgiveness as I will likely be attending as a representative of another time frame than GAoP... It looks like the Viking me will be the one that attends...
Capt. Sterling
Two crewe members do Viking as well, I know one will most likely be at RF2 though I cannot vouch for the other. And another two members will be celebrating birthdays close to that weekend as well... one at least will be able to share a drink with you... the other is a bit too young...unless you would rather a chocolate milk! Aurore Devareaux
It will be a pleasure to make your aquaint, Michael....or should that be Monsieur Vachon? There is no forgiveness to be begged. michaelsbagley
Well Captian Sterling, I tend to prefer a good red wine or a nice dry mead to chocolate milk... It will be nice to meet some fellow Norsemen who also do the whole Pirate thing... The more I think of it, the more I am considering doing one day as a Norseman, and the other day as a Pirate (unfortunately my pirate garb is Hollywood at the moment), but I am very interested in meeting some pirate, and I would love the opportunity to pick brains over authentic piratical stuff... I will be looking into buying some of the Reconstructing History patterns in the near future (probably after X-mas), so I'm guessing I won't have the time to complete new pirate garb before the event. As for the name... I've decided to go with a "French" pirate theme, I will have to bruch up my French Speaking abilities some, but, oui madame (ou et tu une Madamoiselle?), je m'appelle Monsieur Michel Vachon, maitre des armes. It will be nice to make your acquaintance as well, as ewll as many of the others that will be present.
Aurore Devareaux
Magnifique, Monsieur! Et Maitre des Armes....Tres impressionnant! Je suis femme marie', Monsieur Vachon....So it would be Madame. See you in Chicago! Cheeky Actress
Yes, this I know. Please be patient with him. I am sure that there is a lot to go over (final plans, list of vendors, additional last min. vendors and so on - schedule for demos and lectures....) I feel for him as of the moment, remember...he's working from scratch due to his computer mishap. Member of "The Forsaken"

Lilith
I just checked out this website last night. It looks interesting but I'm too far away to take part in it. So, is this a CON or is this more like the meeting of like minds? Is this a national thing and is there a chance it will move from year to year? Sorry for all the questions, but I've done CONs before and some are worth going and others are just a plain waste of time. Can anyone be so kind to enlighten me on this? Perhaps next year I might be able to make it. As sad as this sounds, I am pretty damn good at hand sewing... So good, that mon cheri asks me to construct her garb for her as well as doing my own. I do also have a horrible habit of hand sewing things entirely whether they need to be or not. I made a superhero costume for halloween (Green Lantern), I hand sewed the whole thing just because I was too lazy to pull out the sewing machine. I do really appreciate the advice on the easier items to make though, knowing that I can pull off somethign that is both authentic and easier to make (all things being relative), I may aspire to aim to have something basic put together for Re-enactor Fest. I guess it will mostly depend on what my work schedule is like over January.... Maybe I will make sure I bring a bottle of my best reserve with me to toast new acquantances with... (It's a 5 year old dry raspberry mead I made)... I think I have a case left...
kass
Hi Lilith, No, it's not a CON. It's a reenactors' market. Basically it's a place where vendors from the various reenactment periods -- Ancient Rome through World War II -- come to sell their wares. There are also lectures on various reenactment topics and other fun stuff. Kass Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time!

Mmm, Mead. Now there's something I wouldn't mind bartering for! kass
Lilith, welcome to the period of your dreams then! Most men I know in this period handsew. Some even prefer it! Building an Empire... one prickety stitch at a time!
Capt. Sterling
I just checked out this website last night. It looks interesting but I'm too far away to take part in it. Sorry for all the questions, but I've done CONs before and some are worth going and others are just a plain waste of time. Can anyone be so kind to enlighten me on this? Perhaps next year I might be able to make it. Tis a long weekend show (Friday-Sunday) with vendors, lecturers, demonstrations, recruiting, skits, historical jeopardy contest, school kids coming in on Fridays perhaps, ect. There is a Reenactor's Ball this year for the first time, and a special party for vendors as well. Last year there was a wine tasting, which hopefully may be repeated this year... Since this is only the second year for this event, the organizers are still trying to arrange the best fun for all involved. Plans for future events do include moving it around the country so all, eventually, can take turns attending. Besides you can't go wrong sewing by hand for GAoP! I may aspire to aim to have something basic put together for Re-enactor Fest. jessie k.
I'm planning on coming...I really can't think of a better excuse for skipping classes on Friday! (Possibly Thursday too...that's a long drive.) I won't be piratically attired, but will be my usual Anglo-Saxon Aethelflaed-self. And I'm really glad I've got an entire month's Christmas break to make some new garb!
