  1. My crew (family) and I make nearly yearly (har har) visits to ol' San Diego, and the place we never fail to visit is Seaport Village. There's a shop somewhere in the village called "The Captain's Cove"... all sorts o' fine plunder!!

I love that place! I haven't been down there for quite some time though. But in any case I really like Seaport Village. Also, next to the Star of India docked on the waterfront, next to it is the ferry with a really cool gift shop you should check out.

**I'd rather be training cabin boys** <_<

  5. I would be there, but unfortunatly I've been sick all week with a cold. Didn't want to take the chance of getting overheated and making it worse, or giving it to someone else. So's I'm stayin' home.

Just as well, the tempeture's suppose ta be in the high 90's today. Arrrgggghhhh, not the thing that wants ta get me all dressed up in my finery.

  6. I bought my first frock coat pattern from Jas Townsend & Son, then shortly thereafter, found virutally the same thing for a lot less at Jo Anns fabric store. It's a Butterick pattern - number P203. It includes not only the pattern for the coat, but patterns for the vest, shirt, and breeches.

Though the look is more Colonial, it can easily be adapted to an earlier time period.

The frock coat I'm currently working on, is a gentelman's coat so it won't have the big sleeve cuffs that you'd find on the more piratey Captian's coats.

The reason for this choice is because I plan to use it for more than just pirate stuff, I like to make my costumes adaptable for other character uses.

  7. Ah, New Zealand, a place I'd like to visit someday - in my dreams of course!

I never take my dreams seriously, they are more like Saturday morning cartoons!

Can't think o' anythin' worse than seein' Sponge Bob at the helm of a sailin' ship and Peter Pan flyin' about. Hmmmm, Tinkerbell musta been dishin' out an extra dose o' flyin' fairy powder. But hey since I'm on a roll, there be little munchkins actin' as crew and killer tomatoes threatenin' them with squishy innards o' the chicken that didn't make it across the road, and of course, the rum barrel walkin' the decks handin' out ladles of intoxicatin' liquore to the munchkins. Guess that's why they keep goin'on 'bout singin' somethin' bout a yellow brick road.

Meanwhile the Capt. is in his cabin with the hooka, swappin' stories with Charlie Brown 'bout a great pumpkin.

The bilge rats, Tom and Jerry, are dancin' a jig down in the hold, flingin' the weevils from the flour around, and chewing the fat with a jawa, 'bout some guy named Solo and the bath rug he carries around he calls a Wookie.

Up in the crow's nest ol' Peter Pan is still flyin' 'round figurin' how ta stop sayin' "Away we go!"

And the ship o' fools sails off inta one hell o' mind bender!

  8. I read that letter on another site this mornin' .

I only went once to N. Faire when it was still in Novato. It was ok, but the uphill grind into the two canyons was way too much for me and lots o' others who were in wheelchairs and walkin' with canes an' such.

I can't say much else 'bout it, but hey there's other faires ta go to.

  10. Thanks Donna, uh er I mean Capt. Grey. I do need some boots and those certianly fit the bill. Unfortunatly my cash flow has become a bit nill until after the first of November. Arrrggghhhh, but in any case I'll still try and see if there's any left in my size ( I wear a wide width- 9) when I get there.

  13. Let me tell ye me friend, ye be takin' on a firery dragon if'n ye want ta do a fair. It takes LOTS of money, most o' it up front.

It also takes a whole lot of ADVERTISING in order ta get people ta come.

I have to admit though, I doubt I'd be travelin' to the San Fran area of Calif., as doubloons aren't in me pocket much.

*Just an added note here, the twit who started the Corona Fair here, has tried over and over to get people to his fair, but it has failed badly. Why? The major problem is he is trying to take business away from S. Faire which runs consectivly during the same time. The other problem is the guy himself. He has lost more vendors and customers by his poor attitude and inability to run the place properly. He has gone bankrupt trying to keep this alive, but unfortunatly, it will die... and I doubt anyone would notice it gone.

So if'n I were ye, I'd be thinkin' twice 'bout this idea o' yers. I'm not tryin' to say no don't do it, but ye gots to be aware of the mighty high price it takes, not just only in yer pocketbook, but on yer sanity as well.

  14. Well ye see, I started out workin' the S. Fair in Agoura, CA. then when the fair moved to San Bernadino, I was there for many years, before leavin'.

I haven't been in years (no offense intented to any) but it was just disappointing after the move from Agoura. Cement sidewalks.....and where did everybody go???...........did meet a damn good psychic there...but.............has it improved? RumbaRue.....did you do costumes and accessories there (Agoura) for a while?

Dissapointment isn't even the word I'd give S. Faire these days.....it SUCKS is more like it! Where did everybody go you ask, well, as I said, the politics became so bad, lots and lots o' people, like me left for better grounds.

I went a year ago, and couldn't believe how 'santitized' it had become. It's just AWFUL! I won't be goin' back.

No I wasn't involved in the costume stuff back in Agoura. The only reason I got into working the costume shed the first season as San Bernadino, well, it's who you know.....I'll leave it at that.

Ah, Capt. Grey us Force users aren't just your regular ol' bin o' apples.
