Not being mean, you might have better luck posting this in plunder than here. Here is where we beat what ever to death.

Hey Patrick, THATS ON THE OTHER END OF DUVALL STREET!!
-
Did they destroy the ship after the movies were made? I thought Iron Bess mentioned something like that. That would be a shame.

Whether you're a Fantasy or Period pirate, I feel everyone should make themselves a linen shirt. They're sooooo much cooler (as in Temperature) I've made myself a few now and I will refuse to make another cotton shirt again for anyone. I love linen!
-
Aye I second that!

Dang it! I knew LA had a fabric district. Can you tell me where to go. Next time I'm over there I'll definitely rent a car and go. Oh no, another "you know you a fabric whore."

Return of the Signature Graphic Contest?
Jack Roberts replied to Gentleman of Fortune's topic in Scuttlebutt
Well I would have to go with William Red Wake myself. Your sig has such a dreamy quality to it I like. -
Wow I didn't realize how close PiP is. Yes! I'm so excited. Still have a few pairs of breeches to make and possibly a new waistcoat or 2. Finish my tent. Buy 2 pairs of shoes. Grab a pistol and all the accoutrements need for such. Well at least I know I won't run out of projects. Yep PiP is going to rock this year! (but I think I've said that already)

Just to clarify, by trim do you mean were the teal is now? I was thinking keeping were the white is, white. Painting the teal areas red. Then maybe the areas where the white and red meet, gold? If you have the time William maybe you could photoshop something for us? Do we have to sand the whole thing down before we start painting? That would take a lot of time. Heck painting the thing will take some time. I see what looks like pitting along the surface. I guess I should talk to Harry direct and see what needs to be done. After all that the Colors sound good to me.

OOOhhhh!! That sounds like so much fun. We have got to get this going. That would just be to awesome to pass up. Hey Master Studley were you be hailing from?
-
Oh I was just kidding about sending anything to Kass for button holes. I would just rather try myself and get better that way. Besides she's probably really busy to bothering with my mundane stuff. And I wouldn't want her to see all my mistakes.
-
You would Kass. By the way what your address again? I have some stuff in need of buttonholes. Can't wait for the breeches pattern to arrive. Then maybe I'll take a shot at some hand stitched button holes.
-
Very true, even some hollywood costumes are finiished by hand. Even with hand sewn button holes. Crap now you got me wanting to take a crack at learning how to sew buttonholes by hand. Whoop, I'm slipping, quick someone give me a hand. Oh no, To late, ahhhhh!! (Starts to slide down the the historical slope even more. )

I don't think there is too much too surf down there. I surf so I would be looking for something to ride but alas there has been nothing I've seen or heard of. Although let me ask on my surf forum and see what pops up.

Fort Zachary Taylor update for PIP 2007
Jack Roberts replied to William Brand's topic in Fort Taylor
So the PiP volunteer forms are up on the PiP website. My questions are... For us in the camps we are "Reenactors"? Do we have to fill out a form for everyone? Meaning for my wife and I do we have to fill out a form individually or will one work for the both of us? Oh by the way my wife will be completing a first aid course after this semester so she might be able to volunteer for that. I'll have to double check with her. -
Also I can't tell what the top rail is covered with? It looks like leather. So hard to tell what needs to be done.

Well, well, if the ladies can pull off another boat that would be a good bit of "piratin". But back to the topic, what colors might we be wantin' the boat, we do have, to be? Not being a carpenter myself, how would one go about filling in the gap in the back? Then how would one place the oar locks? If I did get the chance to go down there for a weekend to paint her, would I need all that finished before hand? Would we have to strip down the old paint or just cover over the old paint? Oh and what kind of paint do you use for a boat like this?

Well I'm thinking about how much running you might be doing while boarding a ship. In the close combat of taking over a ship I wouldn't think you would running around a whole lot. (I'm just speculating here, I mean no offence really just playing devil's advocate here. ) On the other hand I would speculate that you would be climbing up on board and possibly climbing up some rigging to get around a bit. That would case for concern trying to avoid getting slammed in the mouth. I've read, at least what I remember, I could be wrong, that pirates really favored their guns and would resort to the blade last. So I would build a mock up of how I wanted to carry multiple firearms and toss on all my garb and run around. See what happens and what is comfortable. Try to mimic what I've seen in period plates and paintings.I don't know just spewing out ideas here.

Sinking into the darkness of the alley, I listened to the conversation. Hand on my pistol waiting for anything to happen. I wanted to see the next move before I made mine.

For now, depending on your stance on historical accuracy, you could get (or make if so inclined) some draw string pants, (Very easy to make, although not accurate, historically speaking.) and a big shirt. You would then have some basics and could worry about acquiring the rest of the outfit later when you finally reach your goal. Waist scarves and head rags are extremely easy to make. Just pieces of cloth tried around your noggin and waist. Add any belt you own over top of the waist scarf and you have a basic outfit. Good luck with losing the rest. Congrats on what you've lost already. I myself am trying to lose a few pounds. Have fun pirating!

The Simplicity pattern definitely has the 1730's curved neckline. Which is one of the thing I wanted to change along with the godets removed and leaving an opening in the back. Cause you would need that riding horse. (which I've actually done with a coat made out of this pattern.) Another question is do the shoulder seams look right with this pattern? They're set at an angle toward the back. That might be a bet severe. Oh well good job by the way. I like the colors. And lining the coat shouldn't be to hard. It did mine with no real issues.

Well I'm not local , but closer than most here. I live in Orlando but might be willing to make a trip down to help. Come lets get some funds together.

Yeah a little skiff, what fine skiff. Now I have no experiance with water craft but it looks like she had an outboard motor at one point. So would we want to fill that in? or just leave as is? As far as the condition of her goes what does she look like to the trained eye? Definitely needs some paint. The current colors look alright. I would like to vote for a rust color and white but whatever we come up with would be fine with me. Is harry planning on doing all the work himself? Maybe a couple of us Florida residents could go down there and help for weekend or something. Just trying to find lodging would be the expensive part. Hey we have a boat yea! PiP is going to rock this year.

"CRACK" Lightining slashed the sky. The wind was howling and storm raged on. "SNAP!" a yardarm had shifted with the wind and popped one of the lines holding the sail. The loose sail started to pull the ship over. "TRY HER DOWN!!" screamed Ritter as he wrestled with the helm. Scurried up the rigging we did, like the drowned rats we are, the lines began to give way. With a sound loader than the thunder above us, the sail unfurled, pulled taught like a drum. The ship lurched with a sudden speed. We rats in hung in the air waiting for the worst. With the sounds of lumber breaking away, I awoke with a start, looked around my surroundings. I picked myself up to the sounds voices strained. Wondering what the hell might be going on I peeked around the corner. A figure had just taken off inside. Unwilling to want any confrontation. I kept quiet and listened for awhile.

Thats the pattern I used to make my first waistcoat and coat. I'm planning on changing the pattern a bit on my next shot. Squaring out the neck a little bit and stuff like that. And Capt'n Sterling I would also like a little clarification on what you mean by smooth. It looks like the edging I used on my brown coat.
