  1. Weeeeelllll......... Drunken Sailor is the only song that I have memorized........ I can even play it when I are one........ I'll have to do a search for 'St. Annes Reel' ......
  2. OK this page is how to make a buncha Cowboy Action shooting leather gear.... Not Pyratical, but a lot of really good information.......... Goto .... he describes all the steps... cutting grooving....finishing ......and stitching (he pokes his holes through the thick leather with a dremel.....)http://eightbits.home.att.net/index.html
  3. "Boots de savage" or something like that......... I'll have to look up more information on them, they had a formed sole (but that part would be easy enough) and a softer leather upper...... They might be early enough to be period.... don't know if they would have been worn in the Caribbean, but it would be a place to start looking.....
  4. With out good documentation, I can only guess.... I know that during the American Civil War, some Southern Soldiers tried to make their own shoes.... but they came out really really crude.... without a last to make them from, the project isn't going to turn out very usable... Also, the Confederate Infantry (the guys trying to make shoes...) knew about moccasins....(maybe some did make them, but just because I've never seen a picture of a pair doesn't mean they didn't).... but......that's not documentation that they did..... Now to take this back to the Buccaneers.... would they have seen moccasins? and would any of them have known how to make shoes... sure they wore them, but with out looking any information on-line, could you make a serviceable pair of shoes right now ?....I could probably make a pair of shoes (I cheated, and have looked up how they were made ) but it would be a hustle, with a lot of trial and error until I got a pair that worked right...... I've made moccasins, and even being skilled at making stuff, they could have used some "refinement"... What's that line.... about moccasins just being a decent way of walking barefooted? So my guess, is that the Buccaneers traded or bought their shoes instead of trying to make them..... But I really don't know one way or the other..... just a "gut feeling" about it....... Go with linen... hemp is a nice fabric, but it is heaver... (I'm wondering about bleached or un-bleached linen.... unbleached was cheaper, but would it have been shipped to the Caribbean?) But once again... I can't document one way or the other on that also....... Dang... I'm lotsa help tonight ain't I.........
  5. I live up in the mountains, so I couldn't go to a music shop and check them out before I bought mine on-line. I bought mine (Hohner) for about $120. a few years ago.... before that I bought a cheap East German on offa E-bay(for about $40)... it worked, but the buttons kept falling off and some of the reeds were messed up.... I'm not good enough yet to justify spending $600 for a better quality one... .....But like almost everything, you get what you pay for.... Someone told me about a large concertina festival some place in California..... but I'd have to search for a web page about it......
  6. It's kinda funny, but if you ask any of the locals (Angels Camp, Murphys, Avery, Arnold or Dorrington... most of Calaveras County....) "where is the Pyrate".... They all know who you're talking about.....
  7. OH yeah..... beware of some of the cheap East German concertinas for sale on E-bay... My first one was one of these, and it wasn't worth the hustle....You'll be better off buying a Hohner ....
  8. I ordered a Hohner concertina on-line... But it doesn't help that I no longer have the page I bookmarked..... But here are some web pages that I did bookmark on Concertinas Concertina Net. http://www.concertina.net/ A Brief History of the Anglo Concertina (They have some .PDFs of old concertina manuals) http://www.concertina.com/worrall/anglo-in-united-states/ It is fun to play, I started learning by using a book on the harmonica....right now I'm trying to memorize the notes instead of the shorthand of d3 or p4 (draw or push) so I will be able to actully "read" music.....
  9. I copied and saved these picture, but I'll post where I originally found them... In Brass Goggles Sexy inside of a Zeppelin engine nacelle Go down to the sixth post by HAC (the last post on that page) For two Super cool pictures of the inside of an Airship..... http://brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=1174.0
  10. Kinda thin garment leather... I'm re-cycling an old leather jacket I bought for $5.99 at a Thrift Store. This afternoon, I actually got all the pockets fixed and added two breast pockets with flaps...It now has 9 pockets.... I still have to do some slight "tailoring" so it fits better, and add eppelets... Then I can take and post a picture of it....
  11. Yeah, you'll have to wait until the next round..... I think it should be about May.... These are some of the cartoons that I've done in different Sketchbooks.... (there is a "Spoiler Alert" for this round, so if anyone doesn't want to see what's in sketchbooks from this round they will know when to stop....) https://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=13423
  12. Just got Callenish's book today.....
  13. But the only ones who made any money offa me were some of the local merchants the airlines, and the Key West shuttle....Oh yeah... and the Dead Mans Chest auction for charity....
  14. Nor Cal would be cool, there are some Steamers in the Bay Area, and it could be posted that there were going to be Airship Pyrates there; in Brass Goggles...... I still have to start the sewing part of the leather "Combat Vest" I have it torn apart, but now that I have a heater for my workroom, I might be able to get the sewing part of it done (I've been working on some of my Buccaneer stuff because it's hand sewing and warmer in my bedroom...) I also have a cheap short Falcion that I'm going to grind the blade down and make a scabbard for across the back of the Combat Vest... I still have to get another leather jacket of coat to cut apart for a flight helmet, make the sub-gattling gun, and then a weapons belt... I also want to do a drawing/cross section showing where everything is on the Columbia's Revenge.... This is the bomb bay, and this is the gun turret with a breach loading Witworth type II....the gattling guns, and the cargo bay.......
  15. Dang... it snowed another 3" last night when I wasn't looking.... I HATE SNOW..........
  16. Well alla my stuff is real clothing... just from different time periods..... But I have more clothing from different time periods than I do from right now....(something like that...) Silas Morgan.... A couple of times at PiP, when someone would call for Silas (Thatcher), I'd look up... then remember that PiP isn't Steampunk.... Abney Park.... they are cool....(never hurts to re-post the link again....)
  17. I like that.....A Captain that no one has ever seen..... maybe he's a part of the ship?.... no one knows..... That is such a dang cool idea.....
  18. OH yeah..... and I'm hand sewing everything (because it's warmer in my bedroom than in the workroom where the sewing machine is......... )
  19. I started making a pair of Venetians and Drawers. Other than the Drawers being a little smaller The pattern is the same, The Venetians will have some more details to them and the Drawers are slightly simpler... But I'll post more pictures of the progress...... This picture shows the shape of the Drawers, the Venetians are just a little larger....(I used this picture because the linen is lighter than the green wool for the Venetians and photographed better)
  20. These aren't Stupid Videos... its.....Dr. Steel...... Doctor Steel - Building a Utopian Playland A music video (it takes a while until the music starts....) Dr.Steel Christmas Special....
