  1. LOl, could be, but this is sized for your hand. The hook part is a lot smaller then a hay baling hook, and I shape each one by hand.
  2. Yesterday, some lucky visitor to thebrigands.com become our 10,000th visitor, and they will receive a fee copy of our latest CD " Pirate Scum". Whos'e up for being the 20,000th??
  3. Here is a pic of one of the basic hooks.
  4. I'll post a few Monday. These are NOT the polyester pirate kind, all chrome plated and fancy ( though one could have it chrome plated if'n ye has that bent). These are a sea-dogs hook, made by the ships armorer or blacksmith. If one had a favorite cup or tankard, they can be fitted to actually hold it, a trick I saw last year at the Baltimore Invasion. Very cool.
  5. But, but.... where do you mount the swivel guns??
  6. Lets see, those lamps run about 79.00 in an industrial supply catalog X 14 lamps = 1106.00 for lamps, plus cost of the steel ring. Drill the ring to accept the lamp bases, add 5.00 for a rattle can of black krylon. Oh and wire it together. Wow nice profit margin! Servo motors or some sort of cam system, to leep them in constant motion... now THAT would be cool!
  7. I made me self a right nice hook, it come out so well I figured to see if there is any interest on the Pub for them. Made from heat treated 3/8" crome-vanadium steel, I can make 'em sharp or dull, with or with out the leather sleeve ( to hide your real hand). Welded on T handle. Just the thing for your scurvey pirate kit, and will scare the living be-jesus out of the young-uns.
  8. Exactly... huh, whadda you know! Sleepy Hollow is a hour from me. Sounds like a bike ride up there when the weather breaks to do some sightseeing and some historical investigation is in order. WOnder if they will let me peruse church records and such. Nice find mate
  9. Aye, mate, a whole chest full of 'em. For the Invasion, we donate 50% back to the FPDC, so we intend to move barrels of them. Congrats on your CD release!
  10. Hey Gunner, see ye down there. I made me a great holster for the double barrel, which was the only way I could see carrying it. If'n ye likes, I can send the pattern to ye.
  11. Silky - you going to crew the Nyckel? How excellent is that! See ye aboard at Blackbeard Mermaid, well The Admiral Fell is the closest and is very nice but is expensive as HELL , plus they want a two night minimum stay, this year. We are staying at the Best Western Conference center, 2 miles away. Its $119 nite ( AAA rate) and a large pirate contingent from the New England Rennies ( http://nerennes.net )will be staying there too. Hell the after raid party there might be worth looking into! Crimson - I vote for No Return to the bar what throwed us out last year. Imagine , not appreciating 100 or so pirates, drinking, singing and carrousing ( I hardly even pinched any waitresses)
  12. Right ye arrrrgggh, mate, me information were all embrolixed. Fri, May 30 - Pirate Ball Sat May 31 and June 1 - Festival That be the way of it. See ye then
  13. I think ye hae the dates wrong, cully. According to Pirate Pete, who does the hirin' an firin' of the entertainment, its June 8. Its aways the weekend after Memorial Day.
  14. FYI mates, they are on closeout now and are very reasonable. I picked a pair up, just to give me dogs a break from the boots, and they are not bad at all. Better after I beats 'em up for a bit. They were < 50.00 USD
  15. Mate, I just sent ye a copy o "Pirate Scum" on Monday. Hope it makes it to ye in time!
  16. Ahoy, mates, just in time fer Yule, the third CD by The Brigands, "Pirate Scum" , is now available. Please check out our website for more information. We now accept PAYPAL. http://thebrigands.com With such tunes as "The Mariners Compass is Grog", "Twice the Ditchdigger Rests" and "Flemish the Rope" , along with 11 other tunes, this CD will keep the wind in yer sails and the love of piracy in yer heart. Capt T. "Grog saves us the trouble of thinking"
  17. Hey Pat, hows the squeezebox coming along? Are you doing melodies or accompanyment for singing songs? I am all about the melody! Our new CD , "Pirate Scum' has a couple of concertina tunes on it! Heres me, squeezin' it up at the Ct Renn Faire this year
  18. Coastie, excellent suggestions. We did in fact, once upon a time, have snippets from the first CD on our website. A couple of problems arose. It made the loading of the site take forever. Since there are several formats for music ( MP3, WAV, etc) not everyone could hear them. And not everyone has the right software to listen to them. Maybe it was that my hypertext coding skills ain't what they should be. But now you put a bug in me ear, so I will re-visit it. I have to say that I think this is our best CD to date. Or at lest the most entertaining. What think you about using one of the music download services to obtain the CD? Like itunes or Rhapsody? Or if'n ye could pay for the CD via Paypal?
  19. Didn't mean to slam the work YOU did, HM, you obviously did your reaserch and then some. Me, I never fired a live round, and never want to! Stricktly blanks for Faires and Festivals here. Still, "The more Complete Cannoneer" is a must read for anyone firing black powder cannon, blanks or otherwise. Good luck with 'em Mate
  20. Those are nice looking barrels. Without sounding like a kill joy however, are you planning on firing ball from it? The threaded trunions severely reduces the wall thickness at the trunion pockets and I would hate to see them go shootin' off to the side. The attachment of the tail to the cascabel - surely thats not period? Workable, but not period. I have a swivel that I have been trying to figure out a good method of attaching a tail with a hot forged loop, but this is an alternative that bears looking into. Didn't you win a wooden cannon pattern on E-bay ahile ago?
  21. Aye, mates, The Brigands new CD "Pirate Scum" hae just finished being recorded last night, 11/18/07. Now for some mix downs an off to ye old printer they go! The CD's will be available on our website: http://thebrigands.com Or at any of our concerts. Me'n the lads worked very hard on it and I'm sure there will be new favorite tunes for everyone !
  22. After - skirmish report: Sat was rainey, which put a bit of a damper on the cannon fire ( we were lucky to get off the opening round, blasted powder being so hyrdoscopic). Cleared up in the PM and a few more patrons were to be found. Sunday, beautiful cool day and they had a record day, we got off all 4 scheduled cannon firings, with the 3:30 demo including 5 small arms shots. All our shows were well attended and we moved a LOT of CDs and the merchants were pretty satisfied. Plans are to expand the event next year to adjacent areas. The event story line was as usual well acted, with the fight scenes particularly well done.
  23. I'll be damned, The Brigands, in the August issue of Renaissance Magazine, along with the likes of Bounding Main and the Pyrates Royal. Aye, in an all pirate issue, the magazine picks the "unique pirate acts" from around the country. We be honored to be in such fine company!
  24. Hey! Where's the motor?? LMFAO - sometimes I crack my self so completely up! But then it is very early See ya at Salem! Want to crew a gun with us?
  25. Renaissance Magazine, one of the most repected magazines in the Renn circuit, is putting out a Pirate issue for July , on stands in mid-August. Now this mag, though not usualy dierectly of interest for us sea-farin folk, does do a good job in thier research and I find they can can add a bit o' knowledge on most topics ( I personally subscribe.. I loves the old ways). AND, the are doing an article about the best new Pirate bands, one from each geographical area. West coast, Texas, Florida, Mid-west and Eastern seaboard. I am proud that The Brigands were selected to prepresent the Eastern Seaboard! Ye can pick up your copy at Barnes and Noble and other fine book purveyers or ye can purchase direct from them: http://renaissancemagazine.com
