  4. I'm surprised that no one has delved into this, a prime topic. Think about it, at the time, almost all goods moved by water, especialy bulk goods. The food you ate, the oil you saw by, the clothes you wore and the tools you used, etc etc. Piracy disrupted this. SO the receipients never got what they had paid/waiting for. I think we underestimate the amount of disruption it caused. Imagine if hordes of hi-jackers were to intrupt the food supply to even one American city for a week. Imagine how the citizens might feel twords the hijackers. THe out cry to the authorities. On the other hand, the city that the hijackers spend thier money will love these same people.
  5. "Bloody Seamen" the new Cd from The Brigands, is now available from our website, http://thebrigands.com It features two original songs, "The New Mainsail", "HMS Hellion" and songs from the foc'sle and the Captains cabin plus lots of music recorded live at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire.
  6. Cut out the Constellation.. now yer talkin !! ANd they installed additional heaters just for this event!
  7. Bumping it up there mate. Its going to be a blast, literally; we are bringing all 4 cannon, and all 5 locks, all to be fired at midnight!
  8. We. The Brigands , are sorely grieved to hear of the loss. We met David 3 years ago at the Blackbeard Festival, and a more gracious and friendly man we've not known. Letting a rank amature band swarm his decks to take publicity photos, explaining endless questions on the ship and its rigging and even taking delight in our music. Each year at Blackbeard, talking with him was always a high point of the Festival. Saying he will be sorely missed by friends, patrons and especially his shipmates is a sad understatement but will have to suffice. Truely a Master and Commander in every sense of the word A fair wind and a following sea to you, Sir, and may the Lord take you into your well deserved berth. Al, Erik and Brett Mueller The Brigands
  9. Thankee, mate. Recorded live at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire on the last day, last set of the season!
  10. Far a limited item, you can download a copy of "Brandon's Prelude" off our new CD "Bloody Seamen" from our website http://thebrigands.com Right click on the song link and choose the "Save target as" option to copy the MP3 to your computer. 11. Odd... with all the Pirate history here on Long Island, I have been unable to get much interest at any venue or town to put on a pirate festival... even NYC's South Street Seaport, blocks away from Capt Kidds residence in NYC was not interested. Thats wy The Brigands have to travel to Virginia to partake of a good ol'e fashioned pirate party! Red Cat Jenny, ye doesn't sing by th bye do ye? Our home base is in Brentwood - for the looks of ye map we be neighbors!
  12. This tune was written for a stage prodution of Treasure Island in the early 1900's and seems to have a life of its own! "Fifteen men on a dead mans chest" indeed. The other tune " Yo Ho A pirates life for me" is a disney creation for the ride, I believe.
  13. Dam ye , lass why did ye no say hello? I'd a let ye fire the cannon off !
  14. For you scallywags needin to rape or pillage or rape AND pillage, this weekend is the Pirate Invasion at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire in Hebron Ct. 15. I agree with all on the quality of Frost items. However if your wanting the genuine article, they a website Joesalter.com He deals in actual antique guns and blades and has a VERY nice cutlass there now. Spendy, but then the real deal usualy is.

  17. Kass, aye naive and un-learned I be. Thats why I posted.
  18. I am a fashion neophyte compared to some of you folks, but i often wonder reading the discussions on fashion and coats and frocks and other fine points if we place a bit too much weight on crude wood cuts and the occasional painting. I doubt that the artists were trying to accurately depict the exactitude of fasion in the pictorials, but rather the act going on in the scene. Also, think about how wild and veried fashion is today. How many variations of a basic neckline today for instance. Why would the fashion in the GOaP be different? Each seamstress would have perhaps made his or her little change to an existing pattern or maybe saw something and decided to give it a twist. Not doubting the woodcuts and pics have significance but to claim that it was THE way fashion was is kinda narrow vision, to my mind of thinking.
  19. I dunno mate, I've seen a cast iron cannon rip apart at the breech from firing too much BP or from wear an tear ( i never found out which) . I personally would not be firing ANY cannon made from ABS and styrofoam. Hope ye have a LOT of insurance!
  20. Spiking.. I'd not heard that one afore. Thanks, thats what I'm looking for. Over the Barrel - similar to Kissin the Gunners Daughter, right? Any one else?
  21. I am needin differnt techniques for torture or punishment used on board ship during GAoP. Things like keel hauling , but prerferably a bit more obscure then that. Not to worry mates, its for the lyrics to a song I am writing, no practical application anticipated
  22. Just bumping it up there, lads. SHould be a good time for all
