If you use ammo boxes or other type boxes, I would make sure periodically to empty them out and really clean the inside. I was amazed at how much BP we found in our ammo chest, loose, in seams and corners. Not handfulls , certainly, but enough to make me nervous.

1st Annual Long Island Pirate Festival
Capt Thighbiter replied to Capt Thighbiter's topic in September
Well this event, for a first time effort, is shaping up to be a real whoopdy-doo. The support from the towns, media and local orgs has been superb. We are still adding more crews, more vendors and the latest addition to the entertainment - The Crimson Pirates! If ye southern scallywags hae not heard them, ye be missing some vera entertaining music. And, there will be a free-fire zone, for small arms! -
I could watch Gena Davis pounding sand! In a pirate costume, even better!

The Brigands "Pirate Scum" CD has been selected to be the background sound bed for a documentary on the 2008 Baltimore Privateer Day event. LOL - maybe they will include the part where we blew the manhole covers off the street during our first set! BOOM! Pyrates Way Magazine: "Their newest CD is a masterpiece. The instrumentals are authentic and spellbinding. The melodies are THAT strong. The voices of Cap't Thighbiter, Bloody Bill Marley and Butch Cannon blend together in practiced precison" Rated 5 out of 5 Parrots Bilgemonkey: "The Brigands stand out, as true piratey intstrumentals are sometimes hard to come by... Summed up, Pirate Scum is a well composed album for anyone seeking "real" tavern music - instrumental or otherwise." THe CD is available on our website http://thebrigands.com "Party like it's 1724" The Brigands

1st Annual Long Island Pirate Festival

Sounds OK to me for the re-enactment area, but then again, I know jack shit about period tents and encampments . Welcome to the Dry Tortuga of the North. -
Loose powder we keep in the cans ( Goex), cannon rounds in a steel compartmented box. Small arms powder in powder horns. ALL powder goes into larger metal lined wood chest, lockable. We used to keep cannon powder in an oak , brass bound barrel ( cuz it looked period) but we found a lot of the larger grains were getting turned into dust from being bounced around in the back of the van. BP dust is very unstable, so We put the kibosh on that.

NOTICE for all RE-enactor groups/ pirate crews for the Long Island Pirate Festival There will be over night camping using PERIOD setups only. Please no popups or non GAOP tentage. . Fires will be allowed on the ground or in above ground pits, and the Museum will open one of the buildings overnight for bathrooms and showers. For regular camping, use Heckshire State Park ( see the event website for the link) which is 10 minutes from the Festival site. -
Ol Jack, Make an offer. I just got a new brass swabbing brush, and made a slug for making aluminum foil cartriges, which I throw into the deal. Its a good cannon, very impressive in stature and would be a fine addition to any crew. Shipping the tube would be easy, just wrap it in paper and out she goes ( not much is going to damage it in transit) THe carriage will need a crate of sorts, which I can make , no charge - ah it's good to be the boss, sometimes, and my staff is well familiar with my oddball requests at times.

10 ( ten) layers of canvass?? THat call for a heavy duty professional machine. My Singer ( dont know what model) does 3 -4 layers of medium leather, but needs a helping hand. BUt it does have all the stitch options one could ever wish for. Good luck, Count the Money ( that's Monet, not money).

Pictures, damn it! Once again, we were too busy to take any pics at all. So, who had visage solicitor? Links to pic pages? Be seeing the lot o' ye at Blackbeard!

Indeed. Wish I would have had more time to make your acquaintance. But, I did have fun getting blasted by your cannon while on the quarterdeck of the Lioness. BlackJohn, wow you guys had ROOM! LOL, the Farewell was a trim ship, and weatherly, but not what you would call roomy. Mr Marley nearly took a jib boom to the head the first time the captain came about. 16 rounds in less then 10 minutes - a record even Jack Aubrey would be proud of. See ye in Hampton.

1st Annual Long Island Pirate Festival
Capt Thighbiter replied to Capt Thighbiter's topic in September
Both the Midnight Rose and the Devils Chariot are now officially listed as participants. -
Fact: The Brigands were not DIRECTLY responsible for blowing the manhole covers off the street. But, we helped! A really great event, and we are so glad that the day turned out well for all the participants. Good to meet and greet some of the folks from the Pub, though our duties on stage kept us from mingling as much as we would have liked to.

1st Annual Long Island Pirate Festival
Capt Thighbiter replied to Capt Thighbiter's topic in September
I just been informed that the vendor fee for the Long Island Pirate Festival have been slashed in half. Yes half. Was $200.00 for the 2 days, now is $100.00 for the 2 day event. If'n I were a vendor that would seem mighty attractive. Especially since this event has a projected attendence of 10,000 for the weekend. I might just have to dig out all my old garb, weapons and assorted pirate stuff and get rid of it! -
Would a red cannon carriage be appropriate for a gun taken off a British ship?

Let's see, in exactly 7 days, we will be extracatin' our 3 cannons from the hold of Hellion, and settin' up sound re-inforcement equipment on the pier. And then... mooching some breakfast from thems what has a camp set up in the period encampment area. I hope you coves has a goodly supply of aigs from the ships hens! Remember, fowl given rum do not produce cocktail aigs! Silkie, we already has 5 people stayin in our hotel room, but your welcome to grab the bathtub, though gettin 6 people ready at 4 bells o' the morning watch, an two of 'em women, might be a bit optimistic!

1st Annual Long Island Pirate Festival

Cutter, the vendor contact is Karen, at lucretia_lacey777@yahoo.com Aye, it will be good to 'hook' up with all of the fellow gentlemen of the easy trade. It will be good the perform in our home waters too! We do shows all the way from Virginia to Maine and we get our noses tweaked constantly because NY and in particular Long Island has had no Pirate events until now. But black's the white of my eye if'n we dosen't get vindication! I live literally 5 minutes from the Festival site, and no, no one is camping out in my backyard. The revels saturday night should be some fun, especially if we go a-raiding to the local pubs..... Any other vendors thinking on participating should get a move on! -
I find it mildly irritating that such a prestigious exhit's main page shows a pistol that was from at least a century after the GAoP. Cap and ball indeed.
