  1. This is so sad to hear. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. The Sea is beautiful but she is also deadly.
  2. Great Pictures Patrick! Thanks for sharing :)
  3. I'm curious about this one... I've had my e-eye on it, but without actually having a copy in hand to look at, I'm leary of forking over my hard earned dollars. Would you say it is worth the price? Is it more scholarly, or coffee tablish? Etc. It looks good to me. The contributors are all well quailfied in the field. Definately leaning towards the scholarly. I'm waiting to see if I get it as a present for Yule. If I don't I'll by one.
  4. The Paddy West School of Seamanship?!!!!
  5. When I got home and tried this it turned out it's the right button that you need to click on not the left. At the time I went on dvdeastereggs.com this was the only egg listed. I'm glad there is more. :) Happy Birthday to Uncle Walt and Capt. Grey!
  6. Went to the DVD easter egg site and found this Behind the Scenes: Disc 2: Click on "Mastering the Blade", then highlight "Return to Bonus". Press your Left button to highlight the lock. Press your Enter button and you'll be treated to a featurette on the character of "Chopper" the dog.
  7. I did say hi to Lee and said that we were the pirates that you had warned them about but there were so many people there that it was a bit overwhelming. Maybe some other time when they're attention isn't demanded elsewhere. But they were smiling and gracious and I got both my POTC DVDs signed. Thank you very much Bess for offering us the privilge of going on lot and getting our DVDs signed. Lunch at the commisarry was yummy! I hope Jacky Tar got to see your office. He was so happy and excited.
  8. HELL NO!!!! DO NOT come in garb!!! You'll never make it in the gate. You've been here before RM, you will have a pass waiting at the Buena Vista Gate. Have you're photo ID with you. Then just go to the Disney Store and have a good time. I doubt I'll see any of you unless I can get away and walk over there during the signing. I'll sure try but it all depends on how the day is going.... and since I'm going to Disneyland tonight for the cast Party I will most likely be tired anyway and be getting a late start. Have a good time! :) I didn't garb was appropiate but I wanted to make sure that no one else showed up in garb. I though the store but wanted to make sure. I knew it wasn't your office Have a good time at the cast party! :)

  15. I wa A Sea Dog back about when it first started at Agoura (and I have pictures to prove it). I knew Eric, Robin Cat Howell and others. I was at Marc's and Stormy's wedding. The booth mentioned (in about us) was called Drench a Wench and Soak a Bloke (depending on whcih gender was presented at the time). Ah those were the days :) BTW I didn't work at Drench a Wench, I just had a lot of friends there. I worked at Clan MacColin, then St Helena's where I had a sub-guild St. Magdelena's (guess what we portrayed ) then St. Dymphna's (Sea Dogs). I also worked for the Springjhorns if anyone remembers them.
  16. A friend of mine who is a physics professor gave the following quiz to his class... Physics 100 Test 2 Fall 2005 I have been more honest than any pirate on this test. ________________________________________________________ Choose eight out of the nine following problems. Clearly X out the entire problem you’ve chosen to ignore. Circle your choice for the correct answer. The number in [x] indicates the correct number of significant figure to use. 1) Three forces act on a pirate captain. The first mate pulls on captain at an angle of 30o with a force of 48N; the second force, a British officer pulls on him at an angle of 135o with a force of 64N. Finally, a saucy wench pulls on him with a force of 36N at an angle of 225o. What is the resultant force on the pirate captain? [2] 2800N @ 120o 53N @ 120o 53N @ 56o 15N @ 120o None of these 2) What is the energy of a 5.0kg cannonball, fired from a pirate ship at an angle of 45o with a speed of 200m/s? [2] 70,000J 70,700J 100,000N 100,000J None of these 3) A 70kg pirate, strutting at 2.0m/s the deck of his ship, slips on a mackerel. He slides 3.0m before coming to rest. What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the mackerel and the deck? [2] 0.66N/m 0.068 0.67 0.068m/N None of these 4) How much power does a 50kg boatswain expend if he climbs 20m up into the rigging of a pirate ship in 30 seconds? [2] 20,000J 330W 19,000W 330J None of these 5) What is the change in kinetic energy of the Jolly Roger (a pirate ship), mass of 10,000kg, if it is moving east at 10m/s but then heads north at the same speed? [2] 10,000J 100,000J 50,000J 0.0J None of these 6) A treasure chest weighs 1000N. What acceleration does it undergo if it is pulled across the deck of a ship with a rope attached at angle of 30o that has a tension of 1000N. The μk of between the chest and the deck is 0.50. [2] 17m/s2 1.7m/s2 6.0m/s2 1.4m/s2 None of these 7) A cannonball is fired at an angle of 45o at a British Man O’ War. The cannonball is moving at 150m/s when it has risen 150.0m above the cannon. How fast was it shot out of the cannon? [2] 3,500m/s 160m/s 110 m/s 140m/s None of these 8) The elastic strap on an eyepatch has a spring constant of 5.0 N/m. It is used by a frantic one-eyed pirate as a slingshot to throw a 100g stone at a British prison guard. If he stretches the strap 10cm, what will be the acceleration of the stone? [2] 5.0 m/s 5.0 cm/s 50cm/s 500m/s None of these 9) A 50g parrot hovering at 25.00m dives from that height into a bale of cotton. He stops after traveling straight down into the bale 1.000m. How much work is done by the cotton in stopping the parrot? [4] 12.74J 12.25J 0.000J 12.25N None of these

  20. Speaking of intellectual booty. Where I work, The Huntington Libraryhas had the Brundy Library of the history of Science (formerly at MIT) donated to it. 50,000 volumes on the history of science. Including instrument and some of the scariest (think Haunted Mansion scary) portraits of scientists ever. Galileo in particular give me the creeps. http://www.huntington.org/ResearchDiv/SciRes.html
  21. A great N.C. Wyeth pirate painting is up for auction. Now that’s Captain Morgan! http://search.sothebys.com/jsps/live/lot/L...go.x=14&go.y=12 Estimated price … $1,000,000 - $1,500,000 Yikes!
