  1. Good lookin tent, great deal, too. Any mildew? Mild bleach solution inside and out let it air dry. You can do all that stuff to your poles, but as long as they are not stored in standing water just as they are will last forever. We've got poles on the sutler tent that are 20+ years old and they're just fine. My CW wall tent I used tree branches and they lasted for until my divorce and I left them behind .... Sounds like a lotta make work ta me, but it's your tent. I would patch the holes 1st, try a local auto upholstery shop we used 1 for tent repairs after storm damage over the years. If you've any other questions, ya got me # gimme a call.
  2. Look at some of the pics from PiP's past and rig it into a "shebang" style. Shebang is a civil war term but it applies to any sort of rigged cover. A few years ago several of us tied some canvas to some pine trees and weathered a tropcal storm quite nicely ... in of all places Perryville, Kentucky. Some rope and some trees and you can rig quite nice. Is it a 10 yrd roll? cut it in half sew it together and you got a 5 x 5 yard "sail" that you can rig in any number of ways.
  3. Marty "That's Eye-Gore" Feldman to Gene"It's Fronk-on -steen" Wilder in Mel Brooks' immortal "Young Frankenstein" "I'm not even supposed to be here today"
  4. Hey QM James did you get the pin in the auction? If ya did thanks fer the recognition! even if ya didn't, thanks fer the recognition!
  5. That's really nice, something for me to aspire to!
  6. Pirate to the President: "I knew Andrew Jackson and frankly, you're no Andrew Jackson" Or "We fired our guns and the British kept a' comin', but there wasn't quite as many, as there was a while ago ....."
  7. Cap'n Bob you said ya wanted a swivel for the liberry? Damn, I'm an evil so & so ..... I have a better swivel in process now. This pictures almost like an old Guccione shot, ain't it. Hahahahahaha!
  8. 1 more to paint and these'll be ready to go to their new gun deck. Thanks Pyrate Leather I always appreciate the compliments.
  9. I've always heard that a boat was a hole into which you could pour copius amounts of money into the sea.
  10. It's been raining for 2 days now, they should probably name this storm. It's got squall lines and gusty winds. Our drought index number in Flagler county has gone from like 750 + to 24. Not much fire danger today.
  11. Thanks, Jack. The second carriage is under construction ....
  12. Here it is for this incarnation, needs to stained and glued and puttied and sanded. Silkie, it's become more than a time waster that's for sure! Nancy says obsession, I say passion Tomato, Tomahtoe.
  13. Scrapped the last carriage... this ones better! This is the one I'll even do plans for (hint to Mr. Thatcher) Added copper straps for the trunion caps. I'll do axles and wheels in a little bit and we'll see how it comes out ... Trial and error engineering on the fly.
  14. I'm planning on somethin' like that ...
  15. The beginnings of the carriages, I think they're proportionate. Wheels will be 4" diameter should bring them up to about 10" to trunions. I think that's about right. Thjere will be some trimming and shaping of the top most board.
  16. Happy Birthday Sophia, guess ya won't be diggin' in the dirt fer the next few days, what with this shipwreckin' weather we're havin' here on the peninsula. Enjoy it!!
  17. Which is why I added the strap to my holsters, we do want to keep up with our pistols. We've got more invested in them. We're not taking our pick of the ones laying 'round after we've plundered our prize. The bit mentioned on the Whydah documentary makes a bit more sense, the ribbons tied to pairs. Those you could tuck in your sash and maintain a bit more control. Replacing them when empty. More legend than fact?
  18. Why Jack did I not add that one of those will specially weighted so she beat you senseless? Those are your cannons ..... I lay awake half the night designing carriages in me head. Now my head hurts ..... not as much as yours will. HAHAHAHAHAHA
  19. I didn't like the 1st one, so I'm reworkin' it, I'm tryin' fer the swivel gun in a pic Dorian Lassiter posted in the Me needs a gun thread that Dutch started. These are waiting to be sanded ...
  20. We did our flag for PiP with black canvas and I traced my cutlass on white canvas and we then sewed the resulting appliques on. Flew great in the wind at the fort. I have to agree with Billy Bones .... in the wind the material doesn't matter and I also have to believe that the impromptu flag would've been made from whatever came to hand. My naval cutlass actual size seemed to be perfect for a 3' X 5' flag, I had to get the skull enlarged at my local Staples store. Notice the nylon flags in the background fluttering in any breeze, I had to hold it up because, (admits sheepishly) until just a few minutes ago I had no idea about cutting out the other side ...... I'm goin' ta get me scissors!
  21. Dang it, I hate being handed straight lines like this ..... I'm not even going to ...... The last time I cooked a chunk o' beef on a spit over a fire, some damn large critter carried it off while we were at the battle, all we found later was the durned spit in the woods a few feet from the fire pit. Always stayed around the cook job after that.
  22. Saw you mentioning being a navy brat, and the more I thought about it the more I thought of my childhood best friend and his dad. I probably started going to airshows (not sure when the first Armed Forces day was) in the late 70s. My best friend's dad was in the navy reserves (on a P-3 Orion subhunter) so he would take us to Andrews and PAX (Patuxent River Naval Air Station) to see the sights. Saw a bunch of cool planes in those days. Got to walk through a B-17! What fun! NAS Keflavik, Iceland, Constellations early '60's NAS Pensacola, FL, The Blue Angels, Dad was across the hangar from 'em ..... enjoyed goin' to work him on summer break late '60's ear'y '70's NAS Albany, GA RA5C Vigilante Cold War surveillance .... them was the days 'eh NAS Key West, FL watchin' Castro and the early days of the F-14, Boca Chica
  23. Hi Silas, I'm always thinking high prices but somehow that just don't fly, At the moment PM me for price. BUT WAIT THERE"S MORE, sorry, too many infomercials .... I haven't built a carriage yet, ideas still wanderin' round lost in me skull. I do like your idea for the unfinished and the plans for the DIY type, and you'd be able to pick your own lumber for the carriage. Lady B. thanks for the compliments ... see I'm not as Evil as ye 1st thought .... or am I? Jack the Galleon was headin' South down the coast from Charletown .....
  24. Well Dutchie, WHY DON'T WE LET ROBBIE LOAD AND FIRE IT I BET HE'D REALLY LIKE TO DO THAT FOR YOU BECAUSE HE REALLY LIKES TO DO THINGS FOR YOU AND OF COURSE LOADING AND FIRING A WOODEN CANNON IS SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE OF HIS MENTAL CAPACITY WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO DO FOR YOU I CAN JUST HEAR HIM NOW ...... "COUSIN DUTCH CAN I PROOF THE CANNON YOU JUST GOT FROM SUTLER JOHN? YOU AND COUSIN JOHNNY SHOWED ME HOW TO LOAD AND FIRE A CANNON THE LAST WE WENT FISHING AND I KNOW I CAN DO IT BY MYSELF" So yeah Dutch you stand off a safe distance and let Robbie test the fire the danged thing. To answer your original question 3/4 of a lb.
