As most decent historical experts know, Pensacola has a rich pirate history. Those bad boys were known, like their namesakes in my new novel, as the Pirates of Pensacola. Recently, on a scuba dive to a sunken schooner in the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida Panhandle, I noticed an old case that said T-SHIRTZ on it. Since many of you have been yammering for shirts, I risked my life to get them. Now, thanks to Dealer Dan's Illegal Munitions Store, these genuine antique cotton shirts, worn by the Pirates of Pensacola when they went a’plundering together, can be yours for just $9.99. Just click the link. FYI, the proceeds are going to go to Border Collie Rescue where my dog Sea…

Only worn once at a costume ball a few months back. Was a big hit! Tricorn is real black leather. Size medium. I have a 22.5" head, and it was a bit tight on me. Although I'm sure it'll stretch a bit with regular wear. Custom-made frock is made of a heavy guage faux distressed leather. Looks great. Decorative pocket flaps (no real pockets). No buttonholes. Oversized folded cuffs. Material is water resistant. Lined with a satin-like material. Fits me perfectly ... I am 5'11" and 225 lbs. It will be too large for a smaller person. I paid $250 for both pieces. Am asking for $200, which include free shipping to continental US. Will accept money orders or Paypal (plea…

A Better Business Bureau for piratey shopping experiences. Let's try not to be inflamatory here. Just state the company and a brief description of your experience. This could be a good resource for those of us who do lots of online buying and selling. It can be very difficult to correctly guage the quality of work and customer service by just viewing a website. This doesn't have to be a complaints only section, feel free to cite instances of great service or work.

Well mates, I'm finally getting me own frock coat made - my one concern is material. From what I've seen, wool seems one of the most popular choices, and somewhat fancier lookin' than cotton or duck, but I worry about the heat. Granted, I live in Wisconsin, so that's only a concern about three weeks out of the year, but I do hope to wear this thing in warmer ports now and again. What are your own experiences?

I just thought I'd ask around here on the best place t'buy pirate boots. I am women's size 7 1/2 or 8 ( not sure what that is in mens) And I wanted t'find a decent pair o'bucket top boots, Though somethin' not to tall, or possibly changeable between tall or mid-calf. Somethin' durable what can stand up to pennsic mud and flood without leakin' too much or fallin apart. I find that alot of women's pirate boots have heels, which is ridiculous, so possibly I'll be lookin' at buyin mens boots if they make 'em small enough. Just because I be of the feminine disposition doesn't me all me shoes should have heels. Have the makers o'those boots ever tried scalin runestone hil…

My senior prom is coming up in a few short months, and I am planning a very pirate-y dress, but I'm coming up short on what to do with jewelry. Any suggestions? Websites with pretty, yet pirate-y jewelry?

Yesterday I met up with Capt. Grey, down in Mission Valley (San Diego) for the sci-fi con, ConDor. She was manning the San Diego Star Wars Society table, so I kept her company off and on during the day, as we chatted away with each other and others who stopped by to say hi. We found out we were both doing the Costume Contest later on in the evening. She wore her beautiful grey frock coat she made and I wore my frock coat with all the beadwork that took me 6 months to make. While backstage looking at some of the other nifty costumes, we looked at each other and decided we were just in it for the fun, not expecting to win anything. Sue Dawe (yes that famous artist who…

Well, see, I'm going to be going faire-hopping this summer. Now, of course I'm goin to be a pirate--but I'm travelin with a gypsy dance troupe--and I dance as well. We do tribal dance, really bellydance. And see, I needs a good pirate wench costume--with a gypsy flair, and the ability to move VERY freely to dance, which means a bodice could be mighty tricky. Anyone care to help? Thank ye much!

I think it is time to add a new sub forum. Could we have one to strictly discuss Clothing/Pirate garb (one for Authentic and Fantasy). A lot of threads are about clothing and they don't necessarily fall into Plunder (which should be buying and selling IMHO) and Captain Twill (which is academic talk on all historical topics). I know we have a lot of sub forums already, but I think that this is one area that needs its own home GoF PS I put forth Foxe as a moderator too!

As the costume of Belladonna Bess progresses from something that looked suspiciously like a heavily-armed bellydancer in a cocked hat, to something that is more obviously pirate, I'm slowly adding more piratical accessories. The latest thing I want to add is a baldric. I'm not game to attempt making one myself, but I have found a local craftsman who I'm told can make pretty much anything from leather (I'm not asking for too many details over exactly what that means, but I've seen enough of his "family-friendly" work to know that he is good). However I need to tell him exactly what I want. I've seen quite a few nice pictures of baldrics, but little or nothing on how they…

I'm certain this was discussed a while back...so if anyone would like to just refer me to the appropriate topic...by all means do so. I'm trying to age and distress a waistcoat...has anyone found any good resources of aging cloth to give it that yellowed...stained look? Thanks.

I found this wonderful historical maritime uniform resource this morning while looking for trim detail references for waist coats and frock coats: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/site/request/setTempl...contentId/14764 You can also search through other items, such as buttons, epaulettes, breeches etc: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/displayCo..._class=Uniforms From the website: As a first instalment of the National Maritime Museums extensive uniform collection, we give details of some of our earliest and most important items. These include the surviving pattern garments of the first Royal Naval uniform of 1748. Other items of particular interest are a captain's full dress coat…

There has been much talk on the board of a guy making "unauthorized" (or some other word like that) replicas of PotC props and sellin' 'em on eBay. Now, while I was trying (to no avail) to find a place to buy Hot Topic's Aztec necklace reproduction somewhere online, I came across this: http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo...?number=MRDS104 My question is, if none of my local Hot Topics sell the necklace and I be up the creek, so to speak -- is this a legit sort of place to get meself a POTC pirate medallion at long last?? They have 'em on eBay too, for varying prices, but they got so many different sellers ready to pre-auction 'em off it made me nervous, trying t…
