I am taking a two week cruise in October of this year thru the panama canal. One of the shore excursions while going thru the canal is in Portobello and it is entitled" Pirates Paradise" has anyone ever heard of this or done this tour/excursion?

My publishers will send me anywhere to hawk my new book, (Gus Openshaw's Whale-Killing Journal). As it's more maritimey than piratey (although one of the main characters is a pirate) in the market for decent maritime festivals, and would be much obliged if anyone tells me of one. Charleston, SC, is the only one on the docket so far.

I'll be taking sailing lessons sometime when the lake warms up, and am looking at buying my training craft. I've found alot of good input about the Snark and Super Snark, and have found what I think to be a great deal on a used one.($300-obo) It's the 11ft. Super Snark, and in like new condition, original mainsail and no leaks, scratches, etc. Anyone out there have one or any experience with them? any feedback would be greatly appreciated...Thanx! Capt. Bo

I'm taking a 4-days, 3-nights cruise in January. One of the stops is Nassau, and I understand there is a pirate museum there. Have any of you gone to the museum? What is your opinion? Any other piratical/historical points of interest to be seen in Nassau? Thankee.

It goes without saying - I don't get out enough So in that case, I really need to attend more pirate festivals. I'd like to make at least one in 2006 (not counting Port Pirates, which is essentially in my backyard.) Given no limitations, I'd likely choose to make it Pirates in Paradise, but that may or may not be feasible. Sooo.... all you Pirate Fest veterans, please share. If you could only attend ONE festival next year, which ones would be at the top of your list, and why? Which festivals provide the most bang for the buck, as it were?

this is the forum for vacation spots right?? well I direct your attention to Guam. its around 80 degrees+ year round. water is teeming with fish for the scuba divers. you dont need a wetsuit either. lots of WW2 history. Low crime rates. its a US territory so no passport is required. Now for a tidbit of info you wont find on any travel brochures, more for the guys or perhaps some of the ladies. Guam is like Japan's Las Vegas. IE what happens in Guam stays in Guam. A LOT of japanese college girls fly down for the weekend basicly with a mattress on their looking for someone to do the horizontal mamba with, only to fly home on Sunday night to be Good little schoolgirls…

Greetins! My wife and I will be headin to the Caribbean next year and we're in a bit of a fix. WE want to go someplace with lots of pirate history to it, museums, treks, landmarks.....pubs..... However we will have our 8 year old daughter with us as well as another family. Any idea where the best child-friendly spots are but where the adults have equal time? I don't want to end up in a Caribbean "theme park" for 2 weeks. Jamaica seems the most likely, but I've read some posts about Nassau too.

Ahoy, Mateys! I'd be settin' sail on my new feature film -- a pyrated version of the adventure of "Treasure Island" come late February. Though the budget be small, the vision is large, and I would be needing a fine pyrate vessel to be my set. Alas, there'd be little treasure in it for anyone (as the budget is less than the sword budget on "Pirates of the Caribbean"), but I'm hoping that the Goddess of the Sea is kind, that you'll join me in a real adventure of sorts. I'd be land locked in Southern California, but I could set sail up and down the Pacific coast if the ship be strong. The feature starts in late February and I'd be needin' the ship for four days. It do…

Ahoy!..We've decided to make port for a while with the Tallship Royaliste Program 'afore we head to the Great Lakes for 2006...Now located in the Channel Islands Harbor in Ventura County, California, Royaliste is open to the public for free living history and artifact display at dockside and offering educational sail training adventures for groups of up to six. We now have access to all of the offshore southern islands, including Catalina, as well as many downstream locations for special events. I'll post a new addy for info, but we RR reachable as always thru either of RR websites... I dunno 'bout anywhere else in the country, but thar definitely be 'Pirates in these wa…

Just got some scuttlebutt whilst workin' on my other boat in Sausalito, that the Lady Washington, during transit at night from Sacramento, lost both topmasts at the Benicia Bridge. I have no idea at this point why they didn't have the bridge raised,( I'm waay shorter, and I have them raise it) but anyway, the worst happened for it..I'll post if I hear more, but I'm kinda busy pulling a powerplant..
