Found these at Joann Fabrics today.... Up near the registers in the $1 type bins. They had a whole section of bins that were marked $2.50 and this set of spoons was in it. They had TONS, of course every Joann Fabrics will likely be different, but it doesn't hurt to look if you are looking for some feast gear! Extra spoons are always handy, also!

SOLD With the best intentions, I bought the blankets to make short jackets or some other bit of sailor clothing.... These are vintage blankets... I am guessing most are at least 20-30 years old at least... some maybe twice that. SOLD Paypal is best for me. WB-1 & WB-2 88" x 65" Old wool blankets make great short jackets. I am a big guy and I got a short jacket out of one of these easy with room to spare. 100% blankets are getting harder to find... so I'll make it easy for you. These blankets are basket woven and have been washed multiple times in their careers. They have that nappy tight woven-ness that was great for nautical clothing during the GAoP. With tw…

I've been contemplating a fur felt hat blank to make my own hat from. I like the dove gray. But was also contemplating the black as I want to make a new, updated Barbossa hat. Anyone have a fur felt hat? Would you be able to state the pros and cons of it. And also the pros and cons of the wool felt (I have two, but finding they are in need of some reworking). Also, with the one wool felt blank I have, I'm wanting to reshape it so to speak. More pull it to have a wider brim. Is it possible to totally reshape it? And how can I do that if I have practically no equipment to steam and reblock? Friend of mine suggested to go to the dry cleaners and have them redo it. Go…

I have just now gone on the account, and am starting to get my sea legs. After seeing the Whydah exhibit that is currently in the port of Norfolk, Va., I am looking to buy a quality reproduction of the cartouche box I saw there. Would someone be so kind as tell me where I may find one? Thanks. Capt. Kincheloe

Ahoy Mates, I recently purchased a pair of pig skin boots. I'm not into the period shoes (I did civil war, and brogans can kiss my arse) so I went with the "cooler" looking foot wear. Anyway, they feel and look like a football which makes me sad =(. When I walk around in them they make that pleather sound that irritates me to no end. They also keep creases because they are fresh and they just don't have the right look to me. Is there a way I can weather them to not squeek and get become flexible. They are really comfortable on the inside but I would like a worn look on the outside. Thank you for any advice you could give me. Yaaaar!

Ahoy, I'm going to start with a caveat. Nothing here is pirate related. Yet. I'm hoping I don't have to dig that deep, but just in case, I posted it here. That being said... I'm having a yard sale in order to fund my Vendel Invasion of England! As some of you may know, this year marks the 40th anniversary of the group I started reenacting with (the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia). It also marks my personal 30th anniversary of reenacting, as a member of Markland's group The Viking Horde. In order to be able to attend Markland's 40th anniversary event, I need new stuff. To be able to afford the new stuff I want, I think I'm going to have to sell some stuff that I ha…

My co-worker john who has been the guy making our 17th cent clothes for years is no wanting to get into pyracy. Took me a few years but he will be coming with me to some shows here and there. His first will be Fells Point... Anyway, he asked me if I could find someone to trade us a sword or pair of swords or whatever for a pair of small pistols. Flintlocks that is. He is in need of some other stuff too but at least his priorities are in order. So if there is anyone out there witha pair of working flintlocks that needs some custom metal working done, let me know. We will more then match value on a trade.

i took some pictures of the various wreck recovered shoes to a leather worker here. she came up with an observation i had not heard of. Crediting GoF with all of the legwork has anyone seen this in the vertical but stitch at the heel. the top and bottom three or four stitches seem to be overlapped in the opposite direction. ie, the top three or four stitches overlap towards the outstep, there is the but stitch, then the bottom overlaps towards the instep for three or four stitches. something like this was/ is used to spread and reinforce a seam. this is based on the following pictures from GoF's site. On the bottom whydah drawing of the back of the shoe, there is someth…

A Brief History of the Pirate I have been a "Pirate" for a great many years. I have done the research, lived the life and suffered the consequences for my actions. I am What many consider the Last true Pirate in the world. Living life as a Pirate is not an easy task. I have seen many discussion forums on this matter, and Lately I have seen an influx to the "Pirate" way of life, or how hollywood portrays it. I have decided to post this to share a little info. 1. The Pirates Life for me. Contrary to Hollywood or popular belief, Pirates were neither Handsome, or Rougish in nature. Most were underfed, Over worked, and out of life by the time they had seen the…

1. The first thing you look for in new clothes is whether its made out of linen or wool. 2. The first thing when your in a new town is look for new fabric shops. 3. Go to Jo-Ann fabrics just to get a fix. 4. Order way to much and over buy any fabic, "just to have more should you need it later." 5. Hang on to every last scrap of fabric, cause you have a hard time letting go. (See #4) 6. While walking through the mall you see a new coat and are drawn to it just because it's made of linen. Anyone else??

OK... we have a thread in Rabble Rousing about posting a picture of you in your garb..... but now we are discussing other garb subjects..... Cheeky Actress's stays look great.... and we have been discussing many aspect of them..... but You in your Garb should be for posting pictures of...... well... You in your garb.... not other (garb) stuff) So I figured we needed a thread just for how you made parts or all of your garb.... AND FOR BOTH THE HOLOLYWOOD AND AUTHENTIC PYRATES...... if it is nessicary for another thread for authentic pyrate garb.... heck... we can do that in Twill..... I figure that period stuff is good information for Hollywood Pyrates... and sewin…
