Pyrate Con 2008

There'll be more to do than ye can imagine mates! One of the companion pieces in the Spring Pyrates Way (given free to each guest and vendor) will be information on such tours and a guide to where the locals go to eat, drink, and get crazy.

There's a LOT more to the Big Easy both before and after PyrateCon2008. . .thus, our Pyrates Way crew will be there a few days early and staying a few days later. . . not just to help the PyrateCon crew. . .but to enjoy New Orleans outside of Bourbon Street.

As the call used to go out on radios of the 1940s when The Phantom came on the air. . . "Stand By For Adventure!"

car caravan for those who feel adventurous....we are planning on leaving on April 14 and a possibility of side-stepping to the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico on the way to New Orleans.

We are not sure if we are going to camp it along the way at night or find a hotel/motel....but we sure as hell ain't driving straight through to Louisiana without sleep!

We are really looking forwards to PyrateCon this year. We had so much fun at the first one.

We drove out for the first PyrateCon. From Riverside, CA, took 30 hours - and that was while pulling a 19 ft. trailer (some of those uphills really slowed us down). We drove straight through, because we got a late start while getting our new trailer up to snuff (two drivers trading off). Listened to several of the Harry Potter stories on audio books all the way (not very piratical, I know). Actually, this was the start of a two month trip on the East Coast visitng several tall ship and pirate events - we listened to all 6 Harry Potters along the way (Deathly Hallows wasn't out yet). This year we'll be driving, and won't have the trailer this time, so should make it in better time. Not sure what story we'll listen to this time. Haven't found many good piratical stories in audio format, though I have found Patrick O'Brian stories in audio format.

We'll be bringing a lot of swag to sell in the Vendor's room, so it's not just the price of airfare that makes us want to drive. Besides, I love road trips. And I hate the hassle of commercial flying.

Not sure if we'll want to caravan, because my son and daughter-in-law are expecting our next granddaughter in mid-April. We'll have to keep our schedule flexible.

Curious... what will be offered for the serious reenactors?

May I humbly suggest you come to my presentation at PyrateCon on the "True Look of a Pyrate". For those interested in what sailors and pyrates of the 17th and 18th century wore, I'll give an analyzation of period images and period descriptions of nautical and pyratical types.

Safe harbours and full tankards,

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

The Quarter is very walkable and everything is easy to get to, especially if you're staying there and not outside the Quarter.

Sounds like good times all! Wish we could all come but our crewe is preparing for another romp in the Bahamas at Green Turtle Cay's festival and the back to back trips are just too much.

If you haven't caught Cascabel's session make sure you do. He's such a wealth of information and a true pirate's pirate.

they even stop off at a haunted bar. Seems ghost chasing works up a thirst it does. Quite thoughtful of these New Orleanders

If you have the time I recommend taking the ferry across the river to MardiGras World where they build all the floats. It's a fascinating tour, whether you've been to Mardi Gras or not.

I wanna find out how to get tickets for the rum tasting.

My friend, Grizz (who doesn't get online very often) will be coming with me. We already have the hotel on the corner of Bourbon and Toulouse.

What is the countdown for PyrateCon?

Eye went on You Tube and looked at videos of New Orleans French Quarter.. I saw the Pirates Alley cafe..

The cafe' Looked abit small for

the crowd I believe will be there Sat.

Nite of the Con. for the "Feast" But I'm

sure accomadations will be made.. :D

750 persons were there last year..For PirateCon..

I wanna find out how to get tickets for the rum tasting.

Eye think though it is tentiveley on the schedule you pay $20.00 to partake in the Rum "tasting" ...Look at the PirateCon site... It says you taste three different types of rum and then get to choose one bottle for that price. :D during the Feast ... There is a paypal button on the web site for this.

That cafe is pretty small. Pirates Alley is less than half a block long and very narrow, if memory serves. And the cafe isn't even piratey (unless they are doing the pirate thing for the weekend.)

Go to the Central Grocery on Decatur and order a Muffaletta. (Actually, a quarter Muffaletta will be plenty.) Trust me on this one - sheer bliss.
