Bilge and Carmina - 'Nuff said and I will raise this for discussion no more. I understand your concerns and will do them honor.

I'm also incredibly excited about the coming year's convention and will be there again with bells, whistles, flintlocks, beautiful jewelry and treasures from around the world.

As for all the controversy, that's for those who stride the quaterdeck. I'm a fo'c'sle rat and I plan on making this coming event, whoever be runnin' it, one to talk about over flagons of rum for years to come!

See ya in New Orleans! Blackbead

Aye, but The Pyrates Way will be set up to sell our rag via issue and subscription (again). Supporting the idea of PyrateCon is as important as the wave of income brought into the city of New Orleans to assist in its rebuilding.

I think the point is well-made that we're 10 months out from the actual event and anything can and will happen when it comes to schedules of entertainers and speakers. The lineup of folks listed thus far is a very interesting group and I hope several speakers such as Jamaica Rose and Cindy Vallar return in '08.

A pyrate can't help but wonder what would happen to our "pyrates-only" convention if a few big-name celebrities were included. For the sake of example, what if one of the four major PotC leads attended? I believe the convention would grow from a thousand or two into a huge 10-thousand-person event with most of the guests not being pyrates at all! My worry is that as a smaller group, we're a highlight in New Orleans. . . . as a huge group, we'd just be another Star Trekâ„¢-esque convention.

Just my two-cents, but I'd rather have a concentrated group of folks who are really into the hobby/lifestyle/re-enactment than a watered-down mob of people in Johnny Depp t-shirts.

Mister Mogan. Why have you removed your words? Perhaps next time you will think before you judge.

New Orleans is still rebuilding after one devastating hurricane, she probably couldn't handle another one this year anyway.

I removed my statements not because of any regrets. I will be attending the PyrateFest in the Bahamas at the same time as this event so I felt my input was no longer appropriate to this discussion.

I hope the event goes smashingly well for all who attend. It sounds like it will be a grand one.

Arr! I'll be thar and be bringin' me wench too. She be an ol' friend o' New Orleans, but it be the first time this pyrate crosses it's shores. It be a good opportunnie fer to mingle wi' some o' the fines' pyrates still on the account.

How delightful! I did a search and couldn't find anything about a PyrateFest in the Bahama's. Could you share the info so that some of us might go there?

Thanks

If you go to www.pyratecon.com

Speakers, Cascabel & Braze.

They are going to the Bahamas this weekend on the Wolf. They will bring back news of an event that will hopfully take place in Nassua. This event has been a long time coming and the same people that brought you Pirates in Paridise, Key West, will be the movers and the shakers. Sorry if you have never been to PIP.

It was great in the golden age!

The PyrateCon planning crew was in New Orleans this past weekend fer an early Talk Like A Pirate Day celebration and intensive planning and meetings! It was a very productive weekend, capped off by a visit to the battlefield in Chalmette where Sea Wolf and I participated in cannon practice for the upcoming Battle of New Orleans reenactment in January.

Other members of the planning committee took this video of one of the firings, in which I was in the vent pick position and Sea Wolf was in charge of the linstock. We have been members of the Louisiana Purchase Living History Society for several years, and the group has been an integral part of PyrateCon!

Curious... what will be offered for the serious reenactors?
