  1. OOH! Great name for a hat peddler! I likes it!
  2. Can't help ya much there, mate (so wot th' 'eck is 'e postin' fer?) But it do remind me of a story- Years ago, I traveled to the UK with friends. We stayed at a nice little B&B on Loch Long for two nights. The proprietor and his wife wer a wonderful couple; he wore his kilt most of the time, and told wonderful stories - a real good Scotsman. When we checke din, I was wearing a half t-shirt (cutoff about halfway down) So he gave me the nickname Cutty Sark. The second night, he sat us down and regaled us with the tale of Cutty Sark, and how the ship got its name, from the original tale of the witches, the fastest of whom was named Cutty Sark. Delightful man, a delightful story, and a wonderful trip.
  3. Bullseye?!?! Why....I'll get that lil' swab!
  4. My costumer, JoAnne at Costumes, Period, just got a great deal on a hide of leather. While it lasts, she is offering the black leather tricorn (like mine) for only $150! It is a superbly handcrafted hat, with a dome crown (not the bucket style you see on those ebay knockoffs) and a wire in the brim for shaping. Here are a couple pics: http://www.pyracy.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=177 http://www.pyracy.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=178 JoAnne is a brilliant costumer, with many years of experience. Her shop (in Auburn, WA) is a delight to walk into....jam packed full of beautiful costumes of every conceivable type. Her website is here: http://members.aol.com/dressmup/ You can contact JoAnne at: DressMup@aol.com <DressMup@aol.com> If you inquire from her, please tell her that you were referred by Nigel.
  5. We discovered a great new board game that was just being released at the PiP festival: "Dread Pyrate"!! Check it out! Lots of fun and adventure! http://www.oldcenturyclassics.com/dread_pirate.html
  6. I can say without fear of reprisal that I was searched at every airport on the way to and from Key West. Thanks, Cap'n.
  7. Great song! Me an' Blackeye Susan been discussin' it 'twixt ourselves. I am familiar wit' the version done by the World Famous Sanger & Diedle. They are hee-larious! If ye e'er get a chance t' se them do wot they do well, don't miss it! They are usually out her in Washington, but 'oo nose where they'll be next?
  8. In the words of Christopher Walken: "Vowee Vow Vow!" The Ren Boots are nice. The Boots from Bob & Angie...Whoooeee! That Chrome Stiletto is something else. Okay, tell me this, ladies - are you really able to walk in those things? I mean without doing yourself or anyone else bodily harm? They look great though. For now, I'll stick wit' me old blackies, boring "wench knockoffs" as they may be.
  9. Got no problem with that, I got abig fat head. Sorry t' hear about yer hat, luv. I 'ave been thinkin' (which is always a dengerous prop'sition...) of making ties on me hat, like the cowbay hat I had when I was a wee lad. I larf just thinkin' about how it would look on me. Oh, and by the by, I was lookin' at yer fotograf, and you are right. The cavalier hat looks downright stunning on ye.
  10. Good point, Joshua, there are two parts to this--the jargon and the accent/dialect. How true! I heard that they fired Costner's 'speech coach' during the early filming of the movie, and that he was livid. The coach had been helping him with his dialect. I must admit, he sounded more like Garfield than like any Robin Hood I ever thought of. They shoulda kept the speech coach. Now we are waaayy off topic.
  11. You are so correct, 7S, tricorns do have an advantage of being much more aerodynamic, and less likely to be blown off yer 'ead. I shall relate a story: At the "one-eyed Pirate Tea Dance" in Key West, we were talking to a lovely lass on the pier - I believe her name was Joanie (please correct me if I am wrong, mates). She had a splendid black "buccanneer" style pirate hat (one side up/one side down). She had just finished telling me it was her favorite pirate hat of all her fine collection of hats, and explaining where all the various pins and buttons had come from. Just then, a gust of wind came up, and blew the hat off her head. We watched in horror as the hat floated away and landed in the water. It was hopeless, the hat was too far out to have any hope of recovering. There was a moment of heavy silence. Then, all of the pirates (spontaneously, and in unison) took off our hats, held them over our hearts, and bowed our heads in a moment of silence for the lovely, but now irretrievable, hat. We stood, motionless and silent, as it drifted out to sea and into the darkness. After a moment of silence, I said to Hurricane, "Gee, I wonder where that hat will end up? What tales will it have to tell?" Hurricane looked over at me, and said pensively, "That hat will make some little Cuban boy very happy." Just then, the hat sank. I put my tricorn firmly on my head. I don't think I let gor for 15 or twenty minutes. For the rest of the trip, I was extremely wary of my hat around open water. Fortunately, I noticed that - like you said - they are in fact quite aerodynamic and resistant to being blown off yer noggin. That's me story.
  12. What are the dates, mate? Mayhaps me an' the crewe could arrange to come down to see a show! Send us the info, and I'll see if'n I can gets the crewe down yer way. 'Sides, 'tis another reason for a pirate raid. I 'aven't raided Orygon yet!
  13. Exactly. Hence the name Pirate Style. But they could never actually call it Pirate Authentic.... ...It's kinda styled after pirates, sorta... ...if they were bikers in the old west , and played in Bon Jovi's band... Still, for civvies, it's kinda cool lookin'. But definitely not authentic. And for the price... I got a kick out of the whole thing.
  14. it seemed pretty blatant to me, as he let the rest of the coins fall back into the chest, they had a closeup on his hand, when he palmed one of the coins. But then, I saw the movie more than a couple times
  15. That's a good one, lass! Even better than the time I went to a Halloween party in a white robe, with a crown made from the edge of a pizza crust - as "Chesus Chrust".
  16. Just fer giggles... Ya wanna see some cool stuff...wayyy overpriced, but cool? http://www.pyratestyle.com/ Cool stuff, definitely fo those who are intent on blowing major amounts of cash. I mean, $1500+ for a vest, $4600+ for a jacket, $345 for a pirate shirt, $400 for a halter top? (I dont care if it is sewn together from the hair off the a**holes of one thousand endangered Gotsomonya bird-spiders,) That's pricey! Still, it's cool looking.
  17. If we have anything to say about it, she will! Happy birthday, Dreamboat Annie! You are one terrific Pyarte! Can't wait for the PARRRRRR-TY next weekend!!!! We will surely celebrate Pyrate-style!!! ARRRRGH!
  18. Me all-time fav'rit HAS to be the duel 'tween Inigo Montoya and the Dread Pyrate Roberts in "The Princess Bride". 'Tis a classic. Very campy, indeed, and more than a little tongue in cheek, and 100% fun! The timing with the music, brilliant! "You are using Bennetti's defense against me, eh?!" Me fav'rit Ren faire sword fight would have to be DonJuan & Miguel: "Oh look! A mortal wound!!!"
  19. That wouldn't by any chance be Kirk from 7Nations, would it? Nope, I guess not.
  20. Hear here, Iron Bess! I second that remark!
  21. In the case of the anatomy skeletons at the Art school, they are cast from a real skelton, but are not actual remains. *whew*
  22. That gives me an idea... Also try Art schools. The Academy that I attend has several skeletons for anatomy reference, some of which are in disrepair. Bad for artists, but good for pirates! ARRRT!!!
