  1. Pattern checked, no gores. It's just a straight line cut at the sides. Uh, now what? Rumba Rue ** **
  2. Uh, what gores? There's only the small slit at the bottom. Uh oh, did I screw up? (running to check pattern) Rumba Rue ** **
  3. Well here's the finished product of using the Capt. coat pattern. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to buy black lining (hey you try and live on $700.00 a month on Government disability!), but I had some expensive linen lining I found at the Thrift store, so I used that. I had to use elastic in the waist of the breeches, because the outfit not only has to fit me, but my companion too, as we both have parts in the skit PRP does (not at the same time!). My concern is that the coat came out looking like an oversized well...uh coat. With frock coat patterns there's somewhat of a body form fit. Did anyone else have a problem with this? (Geez with this new digital camera, everything in the background comes out clear too!) Rumba Rue ** **
  4. Ye be callin' me a vixen and a minx? Well gosh what is the world coming too? Here let me stroke some more... Oooooh the hair on yer arms is standin' up.... an' I'm seein' a wee bit o' chills runnin' down yer back, an' yer eyes wide open with sort of a glazed look (too much rum I suppose), and yer mouth sort a smilin' open, and yer tongue hangin' out, kind of like this And geez, all I'm doin' is strokin' me hair. (If 'n ye think I'm a fiesty wench, watch out women, ol' Boats be lickin' yer cheek or more if'n ye don't watch him!) So fill me mug up please, it be 'one o' those days'. Thankee. RUMba Rue ** **

  9. I understand the problem you're having. Solution, use the button hole setting on your sewing maching to do them. Also, I checked all my patterns I have, (2 frock coat, and 1 Capt. coat patterns) and all the button hole spaces varied from 2 inches apart to almost 3 inches apart. I think your 1 inch apart is part of your biggest problem, which causes the material to be pulled up tighter. There is no solution other than cutting the other side to match. Also, when doing buttonholes by hand (and I have), the thread doesn't lie flat like it should when using a satin stitch of the machine, and instead becomes bunched. I absolutely hate doing button holes! It's my worst sewing, but even though they never come out looking good, I still do them on my sewing machine. Before I went into serious costume sewing I asked all the people I know what kind of machine I should buy and everyone of them said Bernina. So that's what I have, but not the most expensive one, mine's a 1010, it's all I could afford at the time. But it does the job and that's all that matters to me! BTW- I got a bit of a discount on the machine because I bought it at the county fair in Los Angeles many years ago. You can still get discounts today at the county fairs around. I hope I have been of some help to you. Rumba Rue **Sew happy**

  13. I found two maps at two different Thrift stores, several years apart; both are framed and perfect for hanging on the the PRP encampment posts for people to see. Both are of the Carribean, one shows Jamaica and I have a small arrow that says 'You are here' pointing to Port Royal, and the other map is more of the east coast of the USA showing shipping lanes. Both are done 'old' to make them look that way. You just never know where you're going to find things! Rumba Rue **Queen of Treasures at Thrift Stores**
  14. Aye they be cheatin' us! I already got the DVD that was on sale before. Well it be the true reason why I ain't bought the LOTR DVD's. I figure they'll be put together as a grouping for Xmas sales (I hope), an' then I'll buy the set! I 'spect it's goin' ta be pricey, but hey, I'm spectin' it. Rumba Rue **No surprises here**
  15. HAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAA! ROTFLMAF! I love it! Rumba Rue **I like a good twisted sense of humor, 'tis like me own**
  16. While I'm basking in glorious sunshine and a balmy 82 degree weather, the birds singing, the butterflies about, a soft breeze, cheers! Rumba Rue **Who needs snow and ice when I I'm living in paradise!**
  17. Unless you can supply pictures of what you're selling it makes it difficult for people to judge and see if it's what they want. Pictures! Pictures! Gotta have pictures! Rumba Rue **Oy oh oh, (Dyslexic Pirate)**
  18. Regardless of the type of velvet used, whether rayon or cotton, both will show wear signs and velvet rubbed off if anything like weapons is next to the material for any length of time. Just a note to the wise. Rumba Rue **Sew happy** :)
  19. Uhmm, I have a real problem with sites that don't post their shipping/tax add ons. This means the owners can tack on anything they want and you don't know it until after the order is sent in! No way, never buy anything like that! When the cost of the shipping is equal or more than the product, forget it! Most of the materials I saw I've seen in lots of fabric stores, so there is nothing gained there. Just passing on a word to be wise before buying. Rumba Rue ** **
  20. The first year the Southern Ren-faire moved to Devore, I worked in the costume department. I had to 'judge' people's costumes for looks. I let a whole lot of people slide by cuz I didn't see anything wrong. I later got the crap thrown at me by Leslie Patterson who was then running things, who told me I wasn't doing my job right! The only time I said no to anyone that season was some gal who showed up in bright neon royal blue outfits for herself and her husband as peasants. The gal bitched left and right at me, but hey, neon blue ain't gonna pass anyone's judgement! I rarely say anything about anyone's costume anymore, as I ususally don't care. Though more than once I've offered suggestions on how to improve their look, which done properly are welcome ideas to the costume wearer. Though I do laugh at those who insist on wearing Nikes with their costumes, and Nobel gals whose hoops don't fit right with the skirts -you know, the ones you can see all the hoop ribbing or hanging below the skirt or the skirt itself is way too short and they look like someone who should have a cane and herding sheep. But you can bet, I'll never, ever wear Nikes with my costumes! Rumba Rue **You never learn to swear until you've learned to sew**
  21. Never mind Capt. Grey, I just got back from Yardage Town on Grand Ave, they had the pattern for 50% off of the $15.00 price tag! Got it for 8.00 (tax included). Ugh, the vest sucks, not right, but the coat pattern is usable, the pants, well, just cut them off from the length thats shown. Also, Yardage Town has the best selection of materials I've ever seen that can be used for pirate slops and bodices. Check it out Capt. Grey! Rumba Rue **Sew, sew happy**
  22. Slops are real easy to make. I usually charge $25.00 as long as the material and stuff is supplied. If I have to buy the material and buttons and whatever, it's the cost of those items plus my fee for sewing them together. As soon as I can, I'm going to get my stuff together that I'm selling and post it where all can see. Rumba Rue **Sew happy**
  23. Oh poop! I won't be home tomorrow for the sale to go and buy the pattern! Yo, Capt. Grey, can I take a look at yours? Give me a holler! Rumba Rue **Sew happy** :)
  24. Well I guess I get the booby prize. Your name: Rumba Rue Occupation: Quartermaster Ship Name: The Salty Monkey # of ships you sacked: 41 How you died: Peacefully....what kind of pirate were you? Rumba Rue **I'm the worst pirate ever**
