  1. Woo Hoo, I'm behind you on that one. Me bretheren here with the Texican Privateers have been talking about doing something similar. Now, granted Galveston hasn't the blue clear waters of Florida, but we be rich in Pirate History. In fact Jean La Feat's Treasure has never been found.
  2. There were times where horses were caried on board and when hitting the doldrums they were lower over the side and pulled the boats to windier areas. Unfortunatly they were cut loose to drown and not brought back on board.
  3. Well, that'll rip your saila a little. Blasted, don't they know we need to be entertained. (lol)

  6. SAme here. Only sound no video. Media player just runs the sound and Quicktime needs a software patch that's not available.

(Just south of Houston) and bills it as an Irish Saturday Night Special. Runs about $125. Hillbilly Highlander Forge Mark Kirkendall Cell: (409) 457-1280 Home: (409) 925-7526
  14. I've been re-enacting history all my life. All time periods. That and the entertainment I've done. Somehow piratin' just fits me base nature.
  15. Suddenly I need a nap. Can I burrow your pillows?
  16. You can find some fine work on sea chests at Marlinespike
  17. I loved it. Set/costume/production was great. Much truer to the original book. (Hook dies, faieies aren't wonderfull things, Mermaids aren't nice, etc.) And they left in Long Tom. That alone scores a few more points with me.
  18. Pick up a copy of Shotgun news and you'll find many people who carry it. I prefer Dupont but Elephant isn't bad either. But you can have up to 25lbs shipped to your door. Even in Houston we are down to 2 shops that carry it on hand. Because of our local Fire Department.
  19. I don't care for pyrodex for a few reasons. Now on the plus it is a cleaner burn. Doesn't dirty/fowl the weapon as fast. That's the only advantage other than availabilty at local shops that I know of. Pydrodex doesn't have the boom and pop BP does. It measures slightly differently. More in some cases less in others to get what you need. And isn't as "Smokie". Doesn't give you as thick a cloud. Black Powder in an EXPLOSIVE. Pyrodex, shotgun, pistol & rifle powders "Smokeless" are PROPELLANTS. Big difference. Is the reason BP barrels are generally not as thick or as tempered as other barrels. The pressure created to extract the round from the barrel is much higher and faster burning with a propellant. I found some ballistic comparison charts. I hope this link works. Ballistic Charts
  20. Wow, broad subject. For a working knife check out Beckwiths Blades he be a long time mate of mine. If you contact Harry or Cathy tell them Lloyd sent you and they'll be treating you right. What's on the site isn't everything they carry. My latest Axe came from a local Blacksmith in the Houston Area. My oldest was made by Chris Poor at Arms & Armor in MN. A working knife can be any scrap of sharp metal with a handle. Depends on the look your going for. I have several utility knifes found in different places. Me mum was an antiques dealer for 37 years. So she would by "lots" at auctions and I'd have to dig and sort through everything. One of my favorites was a handmade kitchen knife I found in the bottom of a tool box in one of the lots we bought. The back ridge is 3/8 of an inch thick, about a 4 1/2 inch blade and looks to have been hand filed and sanded. Has a very simple wooden handle. Holds and edge like a dream and is very plain. On another occasion I was diggin' around a pawnshop and found a knife in a junk display that had electric tape wrapped around the handle and crud all over the bald. Picked it up for $2. Got it home. Cut the tape of and started cleaning the blade. When I was done I noticed it had a round makers stamp and someone along the way had turned a single edge blade into an edge and a half with a grinder. After some research I discovered it was a Mussolini Dagger from pre WWII. Well the value of this piece was already destroyed so I hand filed the rest of the blade down into a leaf pattern and had a friend of mine make a handle for it out of coccobolo. A marlinespike runs the same way. My suggestion would be to find a blacksmith locally or one at a Faire and just have them pound you one out. or you can check here Marlinspike
